@@kipp1755 Ya straight up. AC so much better than Pcars he just didn't know better. Jumping straight into iRacing will just piss him and everyone else off.
I love Dirt Rally 2.0. I hold a few global top 100 scores myself. That downshifting without rev matching is called engine braking. He's using a combination of the brakes and the engine to slow his car down much faster than just using the breaks themselves. This will also cause loss of traction on the front wheels which he will use to initiate the turn and get the optimal angle to power through it. Too much traction loss and angle however and you will lose time. This all happens in less than 1 second. As for not using the clutch, if your revs are at at the right speed, you can mesh the gears past the synchros without using the clutch because the synchros are aligned with each other at the perfect revs. This is actually insane to see in this game which I never knew existed.
@@thatfunnykekguy6377 This is a real life application. In terms of what he's actually doing here, I'm only commenting on what I see so don't hold me to this lol. I also know that the game will allow you to change gear without the clutch, even though you have the clutch button enabled. It depends on his settings. He would get bored of it before anything came. Fanatec is backordered on 90% of their inventory till next year because of the shipping crisis in California (and supply chain with China). I'm still waiting for a wheel I bought in August, been pushed back twice since the 1st of October. And if Fanatec doesn't have the supply atm then the really niche companies definitely don't.
Being in the top 100 often in Dirt Rally, I always wonder how the people ahead are so much quicker, when I myself put in what most would consider extremely quick pace, then there's this guy... holy crap, that was really impressive.
Racing games are some of the most skillful games on the market nowadays. With a proper setup you can practice to the degree of becoming moderately proficient driving REAL cars utilizing only a digital simulation. That's fucking crazy to me, and it showcases just how crazy these races are in real life. Those dirt rally videos of people mobbing 120 on dirt roads surrounded by trees? Absolutely unreal, the margin of error is so incredibly slim it's crazy that these guys continue doing it.
First part is rather easy, but learning ACC (or racing in general) never stops, theres always time to find or knowledge to gain. If I was to start again today I would not drive against AI for so long after being able to control my car and be consistent. Get in the mix as soon as possible, its way more rewarding and you get better quicker. And dont hesistate to admit if a crash was your fault. It happens to everyone at some point and in most sims people are really forgiving if you appologize for your mistakes. Glad to have you on the simracing train. Cheers.
the reason he isn't using the clutch as a lot of rally cars before they came sequential were straight cut gears (dogbox) meaning you only needed to use the clutch when starting off and stopping
In F1 car you just break for a corner and don't down shit. At the end of your braking you spam the downshift paddle auto throttle blip does the rev matching and downshift protection prevents you from going into too low gear if you accidently press it one too many time. Down shifting right at the end give you more smooth, stable and cleaner breaking.
Check out the Assetto Corsa Competizione, it has GT3s GT4s etc. But its main feature is GT3 racing, it can be done Solo or even driver swap. Game is made to be Simulator but it can be set up for begginers also and its a blast to drive. GT3 cars have fair amount of downforce and they are simple to drive but fast :) All GT3 are set under BOP rules (ballance of performance) and almost all cars even the big bois like Bentley and BMW can be competitive etc. Not to mention that game looks best out there at the moment
These wrc cars use a dogbox style transmission that doesnt require use of clutch outside of first gear. Also thats a quaife h pattern shifter its not sequential, the black one to the left is.
in certain racing your suppose to heel and toe the gas and brake leaving left for clutch only. Also the original f1s were manual shifting so i can understand him doing that.
Not sure whats going on with the shifting setup but I dont think a Dog Engagment gearset would like being downshifted like that. NEEDS rev matching and its not happening. Also i had a Top 10 global time in the historic RWD cat on this game and i HAD to use the clutch or it wouldnt let me upshift
I got top 5 In an online race in dirt rally 2.0 and there is some impressive runs on RUclips of people just throwing 360s in there runs it’s kinda beautiful
In dirt 2.0 you can shift without clutch when you revmatch. Gearbox on full manual with clutch you only really need clutch when starting or to drift/flick. I dont touch it at all when driving.
Revmatching doesn't matter as much when you drive in a turbocharged car. The most infamous example would be the Peugeot 205 B in Dirt R 2.0 - because as soon as you hit 5000 rpm, you are going to start flying. It's just about knowing WHEN, rather than HOW.
@@DriftNick regardless, in my case specifically - whenever I play Dirt rally 2 with the Pug 205 rev matching is unnecessary when the engine's revs spike after 5k. And it only takes less than a second for the turbo to kick in, which is why despite being the fastest car in-game, it is also the most unstable, which is why the S4 gets faster records.
@@DriftNick And sure, it's nice to have the optimal revs when you downshift, but it doesn't matter on loose surfaces when you depend on a turbo 100% of the time.
Not gonna lie, the chat was tilting me so much in this XD. For those interested, most modern rally/race/time-trial cars since the early 90s use what is called a 'dogbox' gearbox. It is a high performance, sequential gearbox where a clutch isn't needed but you can still use H pattern gear shifters. You still need to rev match on the downshift, in fact if you don't on a dogbox, you can very easily break the gearbox. It is usually the number one reason for gearbox issues in motorsport today in cars that don't have automated throttle blips. He isn't using an "auto-clutch".
Should never left foot brake on the road, your foot can get lazy and rest on the brake pedal wearing them out and giving false brake lights nobody knows when you're actually braking. Also increases the chance of you pushing the wrong pedal or both in an accident. You're either accelerating or decelerating but never both.
