Disclosure: I was given 3 sensors as part of UK's limited launch followed by another 3 sensors by Dexcom’s marketing team at their blogger's event in London. I have subsequently been given extra sensors by Dexcom UK and self-funded some myself. Dexcom paid for my train fare and hotel for 1 night to attend their London event in May. I was not paid to make this video.

I got my first G7 today and I put it on and I was amazed how it did not hurt at all. I'm on the tandem pump and on the pump it will ask you twice to confirm the sensor number to make sure your not entering the wrong code. Thank you Dexcom for a great product. Hopefully I will see better sugar reading than the G6

My g6 is as accurate as my bg meter because I calibrate it. The auto calibration is an "average" so that it will be accurate for a certain percentage of the population, so my advice is calibrate it well and it should line up uncannily to your meter, don't trust the auto-calibration ever. As far as the not being able to restart the g7 this will be a deal breaker for me until either that gets fixed or until the g6 is no longer available and thus I'm forced to upgrade! This is what happened with the g5, eventually they said no longer available and dexcom automatically upgraded me to the g6 but luckily the g6 was good to restart. I think for everyone 10 days isn't long enough for many reasons and dexcom need to at least make sensors last 15 to 20 days at minimum.

I hope it works without it for 10 days🤞. While sleeping on my arm where I wear the sensor, I lost connection at night. Hopefully, this is not an ongoing problem. But so far, I'm pleased with it.

Personally, the G7 has the best app I've experienced, it has OK accuracy but requires me to calibrate at least every day to keep it on track, but the stickiness is the biggest problem. The thing I like the most about the G7 is that it does not have compression lows when you sleep on it like the libre 3 does. I will most likely be going back to the libre 3 just because it's smaller and is incredibly sticky and I've had no problems with it ever coming off during the 14 days and it is slightly more accurate in my tests with a fingerstick.

    • @jane-i5u
      @jane-i5u Год назад

Where do you wear on arm? I get compression lows frequently with G7. Very rare with g6. Every change, I try a more favorable site on arm. I have thin arms but muscular. Also get more signal loses. Other than this works fine. Except for the useless adhesive. Used skin tax with g6. Maybe will try with g7. The patch works just fine though.

  • @anitastokar98

I have always dabbed the liquid Skin-Tac adhesive onto the adhesive patch of the G6 sensor and never have problems keeping the CGM sensor on the whole 10 days. I plan on putting the Skin-Tac onto the G7 adhesive when I switch to that sensor. I will not switch to G7 until the sensor works in conjunction with my T-Slim 2x. I live in America and supposedly the CGM and pump will communicate with each other in the third quarter of the year. P.S. The Skin-Tac is wonderful in keeping my skin from getting irritated by the adhesive of the CGM.

we use the skin-tax liquid also. it's messy! but it does make that sensor stay on 10 days. very occasionally --maybe 3-4 times a year -will need an overpatch the last day or 2. it does make it pretty painful to remove a sensor! looking forward to the much smaller footprint of the G7 for that reason! also waiting on the tandem integration...

I'm in the USA and I use a liquid product called Skin Tac on all my CGM applications. I have the G6 and just today got my first G7. I use this liquid on the unit first, let it set a min to get tacky, then apply the sensor and at least the G6 easily last the 10 days+. Gonna see how that works with the G7, but starting out with the overlay (applying Skin Tac to that as well) and will see how it goes. The adhesive of the G-units are probably the one sticking point (hahaha) that makes these units a nuisance and would think by now Dexcom would fix this. If I can use a 3rd party product like Skin Tac to extend it staying on my, why can't Dexcom just come up with a solution to do the same thing on the damn sensor and save us all the aggravation.

About the alarms. When it is eventually linked up with an insulin pump (Tandem in my case), will the excellent alarm feature be no longer the case since the sensor will be sending info to the pump and the pump would be the one to alarm when connected to the sensor? For Tandem, it is the one that makes the loud alarm or buzzes inconsolably until you clear it --over and over and over again. Just hoping one of the best features of G7 is able to be kept once working along side a pump.

it IS so much smaller though...and the insertion device is also smaller. i do wish there was a reusable insertion device for that reason though. that would also reduce packaging. i am reallllly looking forward to not having the separate transmitter....getting a new one each time sounds so nice. the last few weeks on an old G6 transmitter usually have accuracy and lost signal issues and also just the hassle of changing it/the pairing process, and timing it with the right sensor change are inconveniences. for all the benefit that dexcom provides it feels silly for me to complain about such things! we're just really spoiled to the awesomeness of it when it is working well -which is most of the time:)

For overlay, I suggest Hypafix. Still ugly, but it's comfortable. My question is, has anyone has noticed if this adhesive is less likely to cause a severe allergic reaction than the G6? I have to completely remove the original adhesive and glue it to Hypafix medical tape because it causes what look like weeping chemical burns. They are actually severe contact dermatitis from the isobornyl acrylate in the G6 adhesive. I am very much hoping that is no longer the case for the G7. We use a reusable iniflex guard from bandsfordiabetics and cut out an overlay out of the Hypafix. A bit of a process, but ten days and no rash! Woot!

Hey, well no. So G7s warm-up timer starts as soon as you physically insert the sensor into your body. This is because the magnet inside the sensor separates from the applicator magnet and this starts the clock. If you did that, you would lose 6-12 h of data as the clock would have been ticking over this time. Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions

@@visitorvisitor4590 I use a hacked Transmitter called an Anubis which lets sessions continue well past 10 days, shortens warmup time to 50mins, and has a replaceable battery that lasts 4-8 months before you need to replace the battery.
Or if you use the stock transmitter, you can restart the sensor after 10 days. Lots of tutorials for this online.

Confusion was the last thing I wanted to achieve. Sorry. I think it’s an amazing CGM- best I used. But I felt it was important to point out the short term concerns about accuracy with their initial release. From my understanding, USA will get the improved performance from day 1 and they hard at work to transition everyone in Europe to the new algorithm but until this is done, I felt it was necessary to make that point. Hope this makes sense

I’m hesitant to try because there is already a problem with the stickiness. When I wore the Libre on my arm it would never stick to me and the G7 is similar in shape and size. I kind of think for me that the G6 shape and size is what’s making it stick better to me. I’ve never had to wear an overlay on the G6 (stomach). Thanks for the video

I could be off a bit in the numbers, but I know it’s drastic because it’s 1 of the reasons my doctor switched me from Freestyle because I need to be exercising and it’s easier in water for me. I don’t know why Freestyle didn’t change it from 14day, 2, or 3. They are all the same 3 feet and 30 minutes I think.

I'm relatively new to Dex - only started wearing the G6 in August last year, and mowing onto G7 when my current spplies have been exhausted.
I've rung Dexcom several times with various queries, and have been told more than once - you should always have a 30 minute break between taking your old sensor off, and applying your new one.
I asked if this still was the case with G7, and was told yes.
    Do you know of this?

Interesting someone from Dexcom has said that, I do not see a reason why this is necessary. If you applying the new sensor in the exam same location, I could follow their point but that is not recommended. Did they state why 30-min break between applications is advised?

@@Nerdabetic Guessing, just guessing, but I think the question asker was saying the Medtronic constantly adjusts basal insulin. It never follows a set pattern or amount. Every 5 minutes it adjusts basal. Whereas with the T:slim, it supposedly uses your programmed basal rate when blood sugars are in a normal range. T:slim, and maybe Omnipod too, have a set basal amount they fall back on. And adjust that based on blood sugars rising or falling. But Medtronic does not care what your programmed basal rate is. Medtronic makes up a new basal every 5 minutes based on Voodoo and astrology and lottery numbers.
