I have taken this exact trip, slept in the open tatami room. It was very relaxing and a fun way to travel across the country and save on a hotel room. I hope to do it again someday

afraid I haven’t slept on the floor since 1979 - you’d have to have a ambulance and two big guys with a stretcher waiting to carry me out 😳 the rest of the trip is doable and looks enjoyable - but no matter how clean how cute how few other travellers - some of us just can’t do floor beds 😳 glad you’re well and starting to travel again - cont good health from 🇨🇦😷🙏

I mean I liked the buffet but 100 yen is about 20 NZ dollars you can get a decent meal for that seemed pricey but looked nice lol I'd load up my plate too (is it a buffet that you can go back to for seconds too? Or just a one time alacart ?) And go for seconds
I could never sleep on the floor, I'm with you on that! Maybe if I stacked all the cushions, but I'm not young anymore either. I would spend the extra money for a bed. It looks like a good time otherwise!

I want to visit more islands in the Inland Sea. I did Miyajima in 1995, and Awajishima in 1996. I also would love to do Okinawa and Island hop. I also did Sado Shima in 2019.

They said only 100 ppl on board prob a majority is truck drivers who have their own accomadation wing and others prob picking more suites and cabins so prob be just about on ya own there .. prob no diff to staying in a backpackers / hostel as long as ppl didn't snore or smell or fart in the night 😅😆😆
@@jun_suzuki42 yup plus many of us have prob or still done the staying in shared rooms like at backpackers or OE ..some places now have men or women only rooms ..only worry I ever had was not for myself but ppl trying to steal stuff when ya sleeping lol

Despite the overall "luxury" of the ship, I could/would never pay to basically sleep on the floor, regardless of my age. Otherwise, it looks to be a fun trip.
This wouldn't be classified as a luxury ferry, based on the food served and facilities, it's middle-class and best for families or groups going away over the weekend.
You would get used to sleeping on a futon if you lived or travelled in Japan. I prefer a lockable room as a woman travelling alone. But I could survive one or two nights in the futon dormitory. I think it's mostly for groups of school children, especially athletes.
In my experience both on ferries and planes is you never truly see how big a country is until you are traveling in both methods, that's quite the impressive size ferry! Food looks great but even more so the views 😮

私は門司港から、大阪の南港まで❗12時間をかけて、帰って来た事が有りましたが、始めて、フェリーに乗るのも、凄く興奮して、サンフラワァーでしたので、この船ですよね。一等席で泊まりましたが、正員が行けずで、二人で帰って来たのに家族部屋の四人ベッドの部屋に入れられました。船の旅は楽しいですが、正員がイケズですよ。本間に…でも、大きいお風呂も有るんですよね。船の中に、レストランもあって、楽しい時間でしたが、エンジンの音が凄いので、寝るのは、相当、気合いを入れないとエンジンと海の海水を欠くと言うのか❗物凄い音がしますよ。一等席のへやでも❗あの音ですから、二等席や三等席は、雑魚寝ですからね。

Seems expensive to me, too, to have to sleep on the floor. All in the culture, I suppose.

2018년에 가족들과 저 회사의 배를 타고 오사카와 벳푸를 여행했습니다. 식사도 좋았고 배 안에 있는 목욕탕에서 바다를 바라보며 목욕을 할 수 있는게 정말 좋았습니다. 코로나 때문에 해외여행이 힘든데 다시 가서 배로 여행하는 재미를 느껴보고 싶습니다.

私は､1年に2回ぐらい別府に行きます｡サンフラワーいいですね｡でも今は､名門大洋フェリーを使ってます。なぜかと言うと、つく時間が早くて…でも車の人には､いいですね｡私は､名門大洋フェリーで､新門司､小倉からJRで別府に行きます｡足が悪い私でも時間が､ちょうど良いです。それから熊本あたりに行くなら､歩きの人は､サンフラワー志布志いいですよ､鹿児島から新幹線熊本まですぐですよ。ただ志布志までの､バスけっこう長いですが、新幹線の熊本の方が近く感じます。
