I'm a huge Prince fan and am always hesitant to watch other musicians cover his songs, but OMG, you were amazing! You took this iconic song and made it your own. You stayed true to the original, but gave it enough variety to be unique. The solo was face-melting! I'm impressed. 👍

This is my preferred James Bell vocal inflection, sound and tone. Masculine, authentic, natural, not forced and definitely not pop. Used same tone on Comfortably Numb in the same square ..... also another version of this outside of a pub during this period.
I truly wish he'd bring this tone and delivery back into his newer musical songs and creations, of which usually have a very different sound that doesn't sound as natural. The vocal parts on the newer material, of which is musically often very good, tend to be much more thought out (I'm gonna make it sound this way) and thus having an unnatural created sound and delivery. I'm only able to say this because I heard this older stuff prior, which seemed to be a natural progression as his voice matured from his youth. I actually heard that stuff even before this particular period.... which still sounded great for the youthful prodigy. The vocals on the newer stuff sound like a different person altogether. It has loss some of the bass in the vocals that is present in this video. I hope he hasn't decided to use pitch correction as well. I believe putting this tone back into his newer songs would be a major (+) to the vocal parts. My opinion. I try to be as honest as possible. I know others who love him will always say nice things no matter. Which is nice but doesn't always lend for the best results.
Mr. Bell ...... the vocals here sound GREAT. As well as the other offerings you did during this period. And of course your muscianship here is stellar and stage presence carries so much natural emotion. The viewer can sense of your emotion and actually feel it when watching this.
Anyway...I LOVE THIS. And not just because it's a Prince song or a Floyd song. It's what you added to them in the total performance.

THERE YOU GO !!!!!! 3:38. THAT is what I was waiting to hear. I was thinking, " Will JBX bust it out ? Will he make His Purple Majesty proud? " And then...…… You're damned right he did !!!!! James, that was an AWESOME job. The whole song was well done, but that solo was incredible. I would wager that it's one of the best known solo's in music history and if you're going to attempt it, then you better damned sight know what the hell you're doing and do it with feeling. You sir, can be damned proud of this video and I hope you get all the well deserved attention that it should garner. And yes, I truly believe that the Purple One would have enjoyed that.
