I like this new bass and guitar combo better than just two basses jamming. It is not that I didn't like when you two were jamming on basses, but I find it more interesting this way.
Good to see Lee back on the channel. Great bassplayer and very enjoyable as a person. And a very good combination with Nathan. Keep it up guys and, please, do more bass video's :-)
I have 2 GS112's and a Tone Hammer 500. It's the best setup I've had in many years. I like the scooped mids over the more forward mids the DB series have. I've never heard the SL series in person, so I can't comment on those. The SL112's sound really nice in this video, but they will probably sound different in person.
I am neither sponsored nor endorsed by Aguilar amplification. With that said, I use the Aguilar DB751, and it is by far the cleanest most transparent amplifier I have ever had the privilege of using. While it is definitely not a "light weight" amplifier, and 975 W at 2 ohms, 475 W at 4 ohms straightforward and simple with effects loop and send and return volumes before Master. With such a clean and transparent amplifier it allows for the natural sound of your instrument along with any added pedal and or effects It is heavy, but in my opinion it has a better upfront sound than any Ampeg or GK product hands down. I went straight past Aguilar's class D right to the big boy! Awesome. PS Love all of the "all about the bass" segments and reviews. Dig the jams! Thanks gentlemen! (correction; 750 at 4 ohms.)
Missed a trick by not putting the Tone Hammer into the fx return of the amp to hear the similarities. Also the TH DI has a wealth of usable tones and shouldn't be thought of as a simple 'drive' pedal. There's so much more to it. It's great to see the plug and play demo's but sometimes a little more understanding of the kit might yield even more useful demo's.
That was just a really fun review with to bang up funny fellas who both just happen to be just absolutely crackin' musicians to boot. Really excellent review guys. Thanks. (hey bassclubchicago you guys have met your match)
Hi guys! Thanks for this increíble Review! Sorry for this maybe silly question...if I want to improve my tone but I'm in a budget situation at the moment, would it be ok to first buy the pre amp, use it with my current combo, and later get the Tone Hammer amplifier? If both have almost the same tone, would it be necessarily redundant to connect both in line? Thanks!
While the direct to consumer thing allows them to be inexpensive and probably keeps you guys from demoing their stuff, I’d love to see a demo like this for Barefaced Bass Cabs
The drive reminded me of Tim Bogert's tone in Beck, Bogert and Appice. I believe, IIRC, his distortion came from overdriving an Acoustic 360 rig. Check out "Superstition" by BBA.
Barefaced do it that way. Thin ply with a lot of clever internal bracing. Great cabs (IMO) but do tend to have a love it/hate it reputation. I have a 1x15 and can pick it and my GK MB800 up with 1 finger.
Pronunciation notes: The President of Aguilar pronounces it AH-gee-lahr Most English speakers will say: AH-gwee-lahr In Spanish, the surname Aguilar is pronounced ah-gee-LAHR.
Speakers are not very mysterious. Take the weight and diameter of the magnet (more is good) and the weight of the cone (less is good) - then compare with the price per kg of both materials and compare it to the listed price of the cab it's in. Voilá, you have the price of the box, electronics and its assembly and the profit margin. That obviously means Aguilar think themselves a premium brand and value their logo quite a bit more than their product. Think about that before buying a cab that you'll literally ruin if you ever want to experiment with speaker swaps.
Idk. I have played many Aguilar amps and cabs. Just not for me. Kinda flat sounding. I think their pickups sound amazing but I just don’t dig their amps
Yeah, that was gnarly and not in a good way. It can sound good though...I get a nice overdrive out of the Tone Hammer by turning the Gain up rather than the Drive. They probably should have called Drive something else like "Character" since it messes with the EQ too. Not intuitive if these guys can't immediately get it.
dunno, i tried one in a store with a 70s precision bass...and i loved the sound, but it sounded muuuch better than in the video...the drive is the reason i ended up here actually..try one out live if you can
I posted a joke about bass players, and some people felt the need to respond negatively so I removed it! If you can't take a joke posted with respect for all fellow musicians, stay off the internet!
A proper music store with real musicians - long live Andertons
And the guys at the store are super helpful and friendly....Ive literally spent my weekends in there trying out every single pedal I wanted to demo :)
I like this new bass and guitar combo better than just two basses jamming. It is not that I didn't like when you two were jamming on basses, but I find it more interesting this way.
I feel it gives a better idea of what you can expect out of the unit- hearing it in the setting it's most likely going to be used!
Good to see Lee back on the channel. Great bassplayer and very enjoyable as a person. And a very good combination with Nathan. Keep it up guys and, please, do more bass video's :-)
I'm not a bass player but these are my favorite bass tones you guys have had so far
Bravo chaps ... cheered me right up. Welcome back Lee! Hats off to Nathan for the surprise wah workout.
Absolutely superb kit. I had a GS112 years ago, pound for pound probably the best cab I've ever used.

Damn Nathan can play the guitar perfectly as well? Where do all those guys get all that talent?
Alex R he's the lead guitar player in Level 42.
Check out any Level 42 video--esp The Chinese Way--Nathan is a sh*t hot guitar player too!
I was wondering the same thing.
Probably does a bit of practice too...
@Lance37a Woah! I never realised that before. Didn't connect the two....
Might explain a thing or two innit
Lee's chops... WICKED!!!!
Fantastic intro jam. I had to go back and figure out some of those riffs.
Welcome back Lee.
Lee, you are one funky player-love it!
Oh wow, nice groove and chops guys! Go Lee! Nice Sire too! Cheers!
Great to see Lee back, think he’s been ill for a month.
Nice job showing the comparison between the tonehammer preamp pedal and the TH500
Best amp I've owned - TH500.
And, Lee is an EXCELLENT bass player...for sure

(correction; 750 at 4 ohms.)
750 watts at 4 ohms methinks
basshippy101 yes, you're correct 750 at 4 ohms. Thank you. Not sure what I was thinking, I will amend.
It's Friday, these things happen!
DB751---THE heavy, expensive Holy Grail of bass heads! Cant really think of a better one if you're not concerned about weight, size, and price.
MrDangard yep, saved for quite a bit for this one. Definitely worth the wait and it's weight! Punk, funk, classical... totally dig it!
sweet a micro scale 6 string goldtop bass
Jeez, great jams in and out!
Hey guys - love the intro! It´s a pretty good example to hear Bass and Guitar in comparison !! Hang on
Who’s giving this the thumbs down? Great playing and discussion.
Bro ... Making that Sire sing! 🎶 Nice funk groove lads 😊
Lovely jam!
Alright. I missed All about the Bass when there was no video last friday
3:25 YES PLEASE DO THAT !

Hey great bass playing there 👍
yea! lee's back! ...
Great grooving intro jam!
That intro groove tho...
Nice playing and review guys
This is a killer demo with great players, though the way they pronounce "a-gwee-lar" makes me chuckle, in Spanish it's "a-gee-lar"
Buena!
This was a great review, thank you so much. I’m getting one of these bad boys sent to me now!
That was just a really fun review with to bang up funny fellas who both just happen to be just absolutely crackin' musicians to boot. Really excellent review guys. Thanks. (hey bassclubchicago you guys have met your match)
Sounds Lovely
great intro
Great sound! Wonder which mic they used
Lee so damn sick wit it!!!
Lee really likes those sire basses now. dont blame him
Nice. Looks Top Notch... Sounds Really Good. Nice Jamming
I am looking forward to these guys trying out the new Blackstar bass amp range.
Very Good
I'm looking into an Ashdown OriginAL paired with a 112 cab. Can you do a review? It would serve as a comparison too; at a cheaper price point.

Nice video, but a bit behind in the world of Aguilar. When I saw "Aguilar Bass Amps & Cabs" I expected to see the new AG700 and SL212.
While the direct to consumer thing allows them to be inexpensive and probably keeps you guys from demoing their stuff, I’d love to see a demo like this for Barefaced Bass Cabs

Yes, they do a 115.
Mesa Subway next!
It's not weight, it's rigidity...and a lot of 'transportable' cabs have neither. Somewhere in between weights with a load of bracing would be ideal.
Barefaced do it that way. Thin ply with a lot of clever internal bracing. Great cabs (IMO) but do tend to have a love it/hate it reputation. I have a 1x15 and can pick it and my GK MB800 up with 1 finger.
Does anyone knows what mic is been used to record the bass sound from the cabinet?
Bravo to intro jam
Could you guys try out the Mark Bass Marcus Miller amps??
What differences do you guys notice between the db or the sl cabs say ith a frettless jazz bass
Wondering about the mic
Is the 700 as good as the 500? Same tone quality?
Esse baixo é muito lindo
You guys should jam some Level 42 .....maybe ? (big fan)
Mental that a shop that is looking to sell this stuff puts this shit out.
When the guitar is bass and bass is the guitar and bass
What is that mic you are using?
Still waiting on details of the mic
Is that a Sire bass ?
mesa amp next?
What alternative cabinet suit with the tone hammer?
Need assistance. Mesa D800 vs Aguilar tone hammer 700. Into a 1x15
The amp depends on your style but I would get a 2 x 10/12 can to go with your cab. Solo 15” cabs have never had the clarity as 10” and 12” speakers
@@candersonll that. Which amp will have a better clean tone. And what are your thoughts on both heads. Thx. B
3:16 I compared my ( quite popular brand name) 410 against the Darkglass 410 and the DG had superior tone - no doubt about it.
Pronunciation notes:
The President of Aguilar pronounces it AH-gee-lahr

In Spanish, the surname Aguilar is pronounced ah-gee-LAHR.
I remember hearing the owner mispronounce it, putting in a bit of the silent u in there.
Oh, I read "Angular heads" and clicked expecting Kryten from Red Dwarf shaped cabs...
Please check out and review the Markbass Casa
I think he used to be an astronaut too (in the 90s..)

It’s not “agweela”
Super chef Bobby Flay?!
AHHH HELLO
Idk. I have played many Aguilar amps and cabs. Just not for me. Kinda flat sounding. I think their pickups sound amazing but I just don’t dig their amps
Come on guys, you both know that drive sound was shit, especially compared to Darkglass, Fender bassman, Orange, Ashdown etc.
I think it's a-gi-lar. It's a last name
It’s the last name in bass….
Second
'Ag-yu-lar'!
Well... The drive sucks 😂
Pedro Witzel yeah, but if you taper in just a tad for when you dig in, you get that fat compressed signature aguilar tone.
dunno, i tried one in a store with a 70s precision bass...and i loved the sound, but it sounded muuuch better than in the video...the drive is the reason i ended up here actually..try one out live if you can
800+ bucks for a 1 x 12 is still ridiculous.
Ayg-e-are
everybody's hanging shit on them for pronouncing Aguilar funny,
Yeah well if you never thought about it Aussie's pronounce it a-galah
The English seem to really struggle with, um, "English" 😂👍
very badd ass playing...and a very bad ass amp, the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 ….nice bass too ….
I posted a joke about bass players, and some people felt the need to respond negatively so I removed it! If you can't take a joke posted with respect for all fellow musicians, stay off the internet!
Proper jazz bass growl there.
