  • This is a simple yet highly effective pattern, using partage and olive, that I like to use as an attractor swung through the current when caddises are emerging off the water. It's not a fishing method that gets used much anymore; however, it is extremely productive during or just prior to a hatch, often leading to the most aggressive takes of the day. Try this pattern or any other like it to match insects in your water; you'll be sure to have some luck!

I love fishing soft hackle flies. There’s nothing like a trout taking a home-tied soft hackle from the top film.
The best part, IMO, is if you tie them yourself, the fish haven’t seen them before.

I switched back to my own soft-hackled flies last spring and I've been scooping them like never before. Long live the Softies!!

That's a lovely softie. Love swinging them for browns on the Madison when I visit my son, but I might need to try it on the Magalloway one of these days!

Really nice fly. I would try dubbing with white crystal instead of green. It'll reflect better.
