Simon Slays 55 hey hon thank you for theses video I’m learning to skate now so this is really helpful so thank you make more videos for beginners skater please 🙏🙏🙏
Rae Ramirez drop your hips, bend your knees! it'll give you a lot more control and could help!
Tip #3 hit home for me. I feel as if some days I go backwards in my progress at skating. Thank you girl. God bless and stay safe. Hope your channel grows fast because it's a great channel
@@bigboyjohnny1191 you're so kind, thank you! That means so much. You got this! I'm sure you are progressing at skating more than you realize :) Keep it up and know YOU are amazing! Hope you are staying safe too
So I did my first drop in after three months of not being at the park (and, let me be real, I didn't really go to the skate park frequently before that) about two and a half weeks ago on a 3 foot ramp. Last Friday I did a drop in on a 5 foot ramp with ease, and can finally step out of a ramp instead of clambering up to the deck after dropping in. Turns out regularly going to the skate park helps! I am still having trouble doing stalls (your video has helped!) but I keep putting my toe stops down once I am near the coping. I'm hoping just with time it gets more comfortable. Thank you for all you do!
I'm not scared of being a beginner
I'm scared of falling on my face
same :,)
girl same
This is it you said it
HA! Yeah. I took a fall on my tailbone this weekend and am so sad I can't get out there and practice for a while now. :(
💀
I'm 50! And I'm buying my first pair of skates😄😄😄!!! I loved it as a kid❤and I want to take my grandbabies when their old enough!
I really appreciate your set of tips. A lot of people who make these videos they give you physical tips and things to practice to get you started. You give mental tips on becoming successful which I think can be the thing you really have to overcome. I get so in my head about how stupid i might look to others or how i’m afraid to fall or how i don’t think i’ll ever progress. Progression comes from consistency and celebrating any victories you make- like you said in your video.
I haven’t practiced since June- I’m going back out today ❤️
Rest motivational and inspiring video. Thank you and well done.
This is off topic, but love your septum piercing. I could never
are vans roller skates better than normal roller skates (like rio or idk) for beginners?:) (anyone can answer because i’m really scared to not fall ):(
I'm a total beginner and I got a pair of Rio skates! I couldn't find many people online talking about them because they're a UK brand rather than a US brand. The only criticisms I have is that they're quite heavy and the ones I have have a hard plastic plate rather than a metal one but they're otherwise great and were what I could afford!
If your getting frustrated sit down put in your headphones and vibe to music for a while then get back at it 😊
Good tip! Love it
I can finally balance on my roller skates and ride and stop but when I stop sometimes I fall. I’m proud of my self because I only started a week ago
PerfectTutorials well done!
well done bro!
YESS!! Get it!
I get my first pair in a few weeks. Lord pray for my tailbone
Update: 3 weeks later, and I can skate so we'll. I just learned how to crossover, I can jump, step, and spin
Update; my bearing broke, and i made a mistake ordering directly from moxi, now i will wait 3 months for wheels. I wish i ordered them threw pigeons skate shop
~~ Domo ~~ 😂 I’ve broken mine 5 times
Only Equines! You act like that’s normal??
That's awesome! Go you!!
First day I’m Bambi lol
How good have you gotten😀
All of them but the one about having fun and the one about celebrating your accomplishments. It’s hard to remind yourself lol
SO true! I forget on the regular that I've learned something until someone asks me how I do it haha. Sometimes I make a list of all the things I can do just to remember, 'oh yeah, I can do these'. It's easy to get focused on what I am still trying to land and forget everything I've already accomplished. I figured I may not be the only one ;) SO happy you found the tips helpful! One day you're gonna look back and be even more amazed at yourself, I promise. :) Hope you keep skating and having fun!
I'm 16 and I want to start skating, because ice skating was so much fun, when I went with my friends a few times, but in my area the ice skating areas (sorry I forgot what they're called) are closed now, so I'll try it now with roller skates :)
Yay I hope you did and had fun doing it!
Ice rinks?
They're called ice rinks 😄
Rollerblading is more like iceskating
I’m 31 years old and I’m preparing to get back into skating after 15 years. Thank you for your advice!
Same here 🙋♀️
Me too!!!☺️
I'm 14 and got rollerskates (the vertical-wheeled ones) yesterday and my dad was telling me I'm too old to learn because everyone learned it from when they were small. I'm so glad that even people much older than me are also somewhat new, thank you so much for making me feel better about it 🥰
@@AvocadoToast06 hmh? i believe those are called roller blades lol
@@AvocadoToast06 I am 52 and just start learning for 2 days guess what.. I fell many time LOL
My biggest problems are my mental block and my balance. Each day i know I’m progressing but my balance is still rough. Sometimes I’ll get really excited to skate and then I’ll get my skates on and start to panic. But I like tip 3 a lot.
Thanks for sharing! It's totally normal starting out to feel this way, for real! You're not alone. Keep at it, maybe I can do a video sometime giving some tips on mental blocks and some things you can practice to keep improving the balance. If there's anything in particular you'd like some help with just let me know
I feel you gurl!!! We like Bambi with skates
Hello Ingrid, have you overcome this mental block? I'm kinda facing the same problem. I purchased secondhand skates in August 2020 but never overcame my fear. This month I purchased a pair of artistic skates as I was told that a higher heel might help with my balance and was hoping that I would get less pain in my feet (I had cramps in my foot arch with the previous pair). It definitely helped having better skates but the fear is disabling... I don't know what to do...
I really want to start but what makes me anxious is that where I live all the streets, roads and paths are really crumbly and wobbly. I'm undecided on whether I should just go for it and chuck myself down the hills at my local park or wait until lockdown is over and get the basics down in a roller disco sorta setting first.
@nastasiya simms Thank you! x
Tennis courts!
Just remember to get wrist guards, knee pads and a helmet!!!
Thanks everyone! I'm just going to get them and practice in the nearest car park. I'm so excited!
I have the same problem so I just go to an empty parking lot
I have severe social anxiety and fear of failing. Combined with the fact that I’m obese, I have a hard time going out in public to skate. I’m not afraid of falling or failing myself but I’m afraid of having other people see it
I'm the same way, tomorrow I'm going out to skate for the first time.
@@borkowskiknits9206 you got this!!! acknowledge the fear but try ti let it go enough so you can enjoy it too! Hope you have a great time and be safe!
This really made me feel good 😞 You totally get it! When I watch tutorials, I need to know at every step how much weight should be on each leg or should I be on inside edges or outside edges?? And your tutorials totally do that for me!
Thank you! It's the way I think too, and I figured I'm not the only one ;) I'm so happy to hear that!
Great tips! I just ordered my Moxi skates and bought a pair of cheaper skates just to practice at home since so won’t get my Moxi’s til August because the virus. I’m so determined though!
NKY. Z oh gosh august is so long?? Did you order them from the moxi website or somewhere else? I ordered some too is why im wondering hahaha
What cheap roller skates did you got? My dad told me to buy from a thrift store but I’m afraid it’s not safe, I also don’t want to buy Chicago skates because I seen bad reviews. 😅
I want to buy some too the rule is to size down right? I'm a size 7-7.5 US but also I wish someone could just link the hemlet, pads, wrist bands etc. they find good so I don't have to browse lol
@@gabygotay5640 with Chicago skates it's good all you gotta do is change the wheels and maybe toes stopper or something like that
Aw thanks! Ahh I'm so excited for you! Sometimes you can pick up some used skates via facebook resale groups too. ;) I skated in my roller derby skates until I bought my Moxi's too ad I remember it felt like forever waiting for them to come in. I hope the time flies by ;)
I have been skating for 5 years and I still count myself as a beginner lol
We all are beginners at any new skill or trick so that actually makes sense haha
45 year old beginner here! I’ve just come back from the roller rink after my kids and I learned the basic from RUclips on our little living room! The rink is amazing! And after practising lots for a couple of weeks we had a great time at the rink, we got round and it felt soooo fast! We had the basic of turning and toe stops down because we put the time at home 👍 great video!
GIIIIRL I might be a bit high but when you describe the purposeful and consistent practice, I think that the yoga sutras of patanjali say the exact same thing to achieve bliss. Even detaching yourself of the results (as you were saying, it doesnt matter if you get it because you approach it with self compassion of a beginner)... Girl, you might be on the path to illumination.
Your comment wins a big smile :) YES
Also let's be friends, because I feel like we could talk in depth about this topic! Applying principles and practices (like you're talking about), embodying them in how we go about being/doing- just makes sense to me because these concepts integrate into all facets of what we do, think, experience in life- including how we approach skating and learn/grow!
@@simon_slays55 Absolutely! Let's be friends and talk about skating and how your philosophy aligns so well to traditional eastern philosophies!!
You're the first skater I've heard talking in such a real way about mindful and intentional practice and honestly, it's something that can be applied to anything we do in life * . *
Hey, this video is great advice for new skaters, but Shorty has been park skating for upwards of 8 years alongside her derby career. She didn’t go from being brand new at the park to doing death drops within a year. Although she is freakishly naturally talented, has a wild amount of drive, and MIGHT be able to make that progress within a year, it’s not an accurate representation.
I want to start roller skating. What would be the best budget friendly skates to get as a beginner? Also I love this video🥰!
I’d personally recommend impala states, they’re great for beginners, I’m getting the skates from there too!
lily garcia thank you!
IMPALAS
Soo..just got my skates. Ill update daily/weekly :D
Day 1: I started to practice on carpet, still cant go on tiles.
How are you now?
I'm 12 and just started 😔its really hard
How are you doing
IT ISS!!! some make it look so easy, i already fell on my butt on day one lol
@@nicole_tuc I know how to skate now not a professional but im learning tricks
Love coming into the comments and seeing you all care about each other, so sweet.
@@simon_slays55 😄❤
Very very true. Thank you for that. I started rollerskating just a few days ago - because I wanted to overcome my fear (of falling) and find out what my body can do, as I always thought I am not capable of doing such a thing. I am soooo proud now of every small step I am making. It is a wonderful feeling to find out what I can do and learn.
Today is my 105th day of skating. I feel like I always stuck at beginner level. But after watching your video, I feel motivated. And I definitely continue skating tomorrow.
Aww yay!! Keep going, you’re doing great. ❤️
The only time I used to skate is in the roller rink at parties. I was a natural and I loved it but I don’t know how to do ANY tricks or even how to stop. I decided to order skates and I’m so happy to be able to start skating! :)
good luck dudeee
Yess!! Excited for you, let us know how it goess!
Okay, so I got my skates and I’m having so much fun!! :) I’m starting to learn new things and love to skate around my neighborhood, even though it is kind of tough because it’s uneven and hilly. I’m glad I got them! Thank you.
I'm more used to rollerblading then roller skating haha, I grew out of my rollerblades tho a few years ago and sold it. I really want to get a new pair I'm prob gonna get roller skates. Do you have any recommendations? I want to get one that's affordable :)
That's so cool! I was a former street blader when I was younger :) You should get some rollerskates,-they're pretty fun! I recommend if you have a local skate shop going there and having them fit you or trying on different ones to see what you like. That's what I did to decide for my first pair. They can build you a pair out of shoes too. My DIY Vans set-up weren't too expensive since I got the shoes so cheap (basically only paid for the $100 plates). I think Chaya has some affordable options for park skates. You also could buy used like-new rollerskates secondhand off another skater, sometimes they order a pair and sell them because they were the wrong size. Facebook groups sometimes has those (I think one of the groups is called "roller derby recyclables" and I've seen Moxis for sale there). Hope that helps! I hope you pick up skating again!
@@simon_slays55 omg thx for the tips! Unfortunately a skate shop where I live closed down years ago and now I can only get it online 🙁 I will try and get second hand skates tho that'd be great since I'm a student and don't have a lot of money, I can't wait to get back into skating. Thank you💕💚
Ellie I joined roller derby recently and they recommended picking up your first pair of skates second hand because they’ll get torn up in derby ;) but always ALWAYS buy all your protective gear brand new. And wear it all, helmet, elbow and knee pads and wrist guards. You’ll feel a lot less scared falling over. And learn the safe way to fall and stop before perfecting skating around, you’ll feel a lot better learning that way
I started skating about 3-4 months ago but I pick up everything super fast so I'm a really good beginner and already teaching my neighbor friend how to start skating and my advice goes as this below:
1. Before skating, learn to be comfortable being on the ground cuz you WILL fall a million times. So lay down on the floor or the ground as long as no one's around skating, biking, ect.
2. Learn to listen to your body, listen to your breathing, listen to your center of gravity and how it moves constantly.
3. Knees bent and elbows bent any time you feel a little panic. If you land on your hands, bend your elbows every time so you absorb the momentum however you fall.
4. Practice safe falling absolutely as much as you can, land on the fat in your body, throw your momentum into your ass and roll if it's gonna be a scary fall!
5. Have fun!!!!
Thank you so much for this video. I definitely needed to hear all of this as a beginner skater🤍
I'm so glad you found it helpful! That means a lot to hear, that's why I make these because I remember needing it when I was beginner too
>40 getting back on wheels after decades off… having a blast, not graceful yet but having a blast
Totally true! I'm not a beginner but I see lots of them struggle with exactly these things online.
I just got my first pair of roller skates and can’t even get up from the ground yet but I am super determined to learn how to do this 🤗 Thank you for you tips!
I didn’t get knee pads or ankle pads 🤭 OMG NOT ANKLE I MEANT ELBOW PADS
Lol I've never heard of ankle pads! It's up to every skater to decide what risk level they want to take and what protective gear they want to wear. You do you!
haha all good homie
I get my skates tomorrow. Thank you for the videos. I’ll definitely be watching and rewatching them. ☺️💕
Yay! Please subscribe too if you want to support me. I appreciate that as a creator & I’ve got a lot more tips coming to share & help 💕 Happy skating!
Thank you so much for the tips! I just got my skates earlier this week. I've been having so much fun learning as much as I can. I can't wait until I am comfortable on skates.
Yay! You got this! Happy you're having fun learning :)
This was VERY helpful!! Thank you!! I wish I saw this video when I got my skates a year ago. I've only been practicing semi-consistantly since January and this would've helped me so much. Now I know!
Thank you so much for this video, as a beginner skater I really needed this !
Aww yay! You're welcome. Thanks for your comment Estella!
Thank you 😊 I needed to hear this. I appreciate you.
Aw you’re welcome! Glad you’re here ♥️
I’m finally getting the hang of stopping with my toe stop!! I’m so happy I never thought I could get it 😭 thank you for this video 💓
I lowkey just cried watching this went to the roller rink with my lil sister last night for the first time in 5 years and I still got it watched this video bc I wanna get back into roller skating you did an amazing job and your such a cool person❤️
Hi there! I just got some custom vans as my first pair of skates. I have tried testing the waters inside the house but I’m unable to move 😓 should I start with traditional skates and sell these ?
I really appreciated hearing the beginning of this video… I’m the type to feel ashamed when I see others doing better than me and constantly put myself down when I can’t get something right. 🥺🥺🥺 I’m doing better trying my best to block it all out and do my thing. I truly am excited for my journey and I can’t wait to accomplish my goals
How is the skating journey going? 👀💛
Thank you for these tips! They’re really useful I’m a 12 year old currently trying to learn how to skate (and I have a friend who has some experience with roller skating) so with practice I might be able to be like her! :)
I’m 59 and just got on the quarter pipe for the first time yesterday. Trying to learn pumping-I fell, I fell, I fell, I fell. Can’t wait to try again next week! Your tips are not just for roller skating, but for life.
Could you do a video on transitions in depth
For sure! I'll film one covering how to do them and breaking it down. Are there any specific things you want to know about them that I can answer or help solve for you? Let me know and I'll be sure to cover it ;)

Your videos are literally the best, a whole lot of info and great instructions. I just started skating and I learned so much in your beginner video. Saved me a whole lot of falling.

I sooooooooo need your help. I already own a pair of Impala skates. I didn't change a thing. But I think I need to change the wheels, or do I???
I think I want to build my own skates but, I have no clue what I should be choosing.
Boot, plate, wheels 🤯
I want to skate indoors but also outdoors..... I know there are different wheels for these things....can you please HELP😭😭😭
THANK YOU in advance, lice your videos and appreciate your help and advice! 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Honestly, wow! I am so happy to have found such an interesting, friendly, helpful person on the internet. I just got the idea of roller skating, literally a few hours ago, and before I went to Target to buy some roller skates I thought that maybe i needed more insights. Thank you 3000 for this video, I will save it and rewatch it every day, for anything. You have made me want to roller skate even more. Muchas gracias, de todo corazón. Gracias.
Thank you for making this video! As a beginner who is learning from home, this made me feel so positive about my progress :)
This video was really helpful for me but it didn’t seem like you were looking at the camera which is something to work on to grow your channel 😊 Thanks for the tips!
Yes, I am aware lol. I realized too late- I definitely didn't notice it until after I filmed and the content/message was more important than one mistake. Sometimes you just gotta get it out there anyways :) Just like skating- it's about progress, not perfection. Glad you enjoyed the tips!
Hello! My daughter is fourteen and was crazy about skates and learning how to use them. The problem is that when she managed to buy them, like every beginner then she was afraid. In my teenage times I wore skates and I loved them, now I am forty and I put on her skates and the problem was that my daughter gets frustrated to see that her mother, who is older than her, runs them. Some advice, because the reality is that I don't know what else I can tell her or do so that she doesn't get frustrated and I would really like to have an activity with her since we have a common passion for skates.
I’m so scared omg
I’m 21 and never have been on skates. I’m really really really bad at it. Like I can’t even stay on em without falling
Hi hon great video and well spoken .. I’m learning to skate and your video is really helpful please make videos about beginners roller skater please and thank you 🙏
Thank you, I'm excited for you and here to help! Thanks for watching. I'm working on another tutorial now. :)
What are good roller skate for beginner
What exercises in the gym would you digest to strengthen your skating skills?
Thank you 💖
Aww you're welcome
Can someone tell me what the things that make the bottom flat.
I get so intimidated when going out in public. I’m afraid of falling in front of people and everyone laughing because I’m older and I have social anxiety which makes it worse and I have no friends to do it with
I know I'm late on this but I don't have friends to do it with either because they don't skate. I've learned that skating invovles social skills. I don't know if your antisocial but try to talk to people at the park. Good luck though :)
Thank you!!!
I take forever to learn new tricks because I don’t have friends that are more advanced than me. Saying that when I do learn something I can help my friends progress really quickly. It annoying because I want to get stuff fast but also I love helping people get better
I relate to that! I am mostly self-taught with park rollerskating, I was the only quad skater at my skatepark when I started and I taught a LOT of skaters how to do it as/after I learned. I would travel to other cities' skateparks a lot as well. Sometimes I'd hit up the local group and let them know I'd be in town on a certain date and ask if anyone wanted to come skate with me at the park. I've met up and had friendly skaters who were ahead of me as a beginner at the time teach me how to do new skills (one was carving) or just inspire me to try new tricks and support me. It's great that you enjoy passing it on! Be kind to yourself, enjoy it, you'll keep progressing and we all go through phases where we pick up new tricks all of the sudden and slow phases where it feels like we've got nothing new. That's normal ;)
ALSO random tip, but inliners who are willing to give tips can be helpful too!
Thank for this video! Tip #3 was the best advice for me personally
Yay! Thanks for your comment, I love hearing that :)
You’re so sweet!!
IS there anyone who has like personal learning tips?
- CONTEXT- I just purchased my first skates (until then I use my friend's skates) that should be here next week and I can skate but it seems like once I try to do something different it's like my balance just dies. I'm trying to apply the tips for tricks like cross over and the walk it out - it's like I got used to just "skating" that when I try new things I cannot get it right.
A lot of videos say don't fall back , ummm okay !! My body keeps do it .. I'm working on my balance ..
Previous Knee injury so I'm being careful need more tip!
Bend knees ...?
I didn't know how to walk
I didn't know how to talk
I didn't know how to skate
We all start somewhere don't be afraid 😊
Just thank you... I really needed that. I started roller skate on Tuesday and yesterday was super frustrating and pressuring. Silly right ? I felt bad because I could ride outside of my garage and be able to do crazy things. So yeah, thank you to put good vibes in my head ! Definitely follow you ! Cheers from France !
These tips were so helpful. I really appreciate you taking time to cover these tips as it's really encouraging! Thank you 🤍🙏
Hey im a new skater and been watching so many of your videos. I am finally feeling comfortable skating (its day 3) but im worried that my hips being tight might be getting in the way.. is that a thing? What do I need to do xxx
Which brand is the best to get good rollerskates for beginner?
I just got a pair of Impalas as a beginner. I love them, they're reasonably priced, and they feel amazing for my first pair. The only downside is the toe stop isn't adjustable, and the leather wears on the toe area easily.
Does anyone have any suggestions guys. I want to get some roller skates, don’t want them to be too expensive but still want some good quality skates. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated
I just got a pair. This is my third day on skates, it’s definitely not easy! Especially since I’ve been practicing in my living room since it’s too cold to go outside and the rinks are closed because of Covid haha!
Slowly but surely I’ll get there! It’s so much fun!
I'm turning 35 and I've just decided to learn. This year is fucking me over so I need something positive. Thank you for the Video!! 💜
I was feeling frustrated that I wasn't improving that much because of school but watching this video reminded me I started skating just because I wanted to try something fun, so I'm going back to that thinking ♡ thanks
Hot.
Finally starting my skate journey with my sister and nieces! Super excited 😊🖤🖤
Hi, I’m trying to get into skating but I live is a very rural area, and the rode I would be able to skate on is tar and chip rode. I’ve been trying to find information on being able to skate on these rodes (if I’m even able too) I can’t find a straight answer some say hard wheels others say soft wheels and others say not to skate on them at all so I have no idea.
I’m so scared of buying the wrong skates. I want cheap good skates. It’s so hard to find them....
it really is! I don't know what 'cheap' skates are quality in the market right now, unfortunately. I built my own skates pretty afforadably by buying my own shoes as the skate boots and mounting them myself. If you have a local skate shop you could ask them if they could build you a DIY set-up, I'm not sure what your budget is but it wouldn't hurt to ask! Especially if you could buy the shoes to mount and bring them in. Depends on what style of rollerskating you're hoping to get into too, that can vary what kind of set-up is best.
@@simon_slays55 do you know any good quality skates that cost under $100?
Idk where to buy roller skates. The last pair i bought was at a sport shop
There are lots of places to buy them online! Planet Roller Skate has really good ones that can be shipped to you
@@toni4157 oh but i dont have a credit card
check local skating rinks, some sell! Check skate shops as well.
i love your videos so much!! so helpful for my skating journey! i wonder if you could CC your videos?
Thanks so much for these tips! I will be receiving my first pair in a couple of days 🤗🤗🤗
Hey!! I love this. Which kind and brand of roller skates you recommend for beginners?
i ben skating 3 years my tip is if you are skating and you feel your falling get down and it wouldt hurt or if you gonna get up dont use the wheels use your stoper to get up
Great vid!! Thank you sooo much....super helpful!
After trying outside I fell the whole time. When I went inside I did it right after 3 times. But after 2 times falling the nose of my rollerskates the colour came off
If it makes you feel any better, it gives your skates some character! I love seeing skates with scratches and whatnot because in my eyes, they’ve been used and loved
ArtemisRose i second this!!
My skates had that happen too! You can buy a toe cap if you want to protect it (like this one amzn.to/3hju0Us) but a lil character doesn't hurt!
Would you recommend starting with skates that do or don't have ankle support?
i keep getting a flat tire on my front left wheel from t stopping like i just don’t put friction on that wheel i use all of them and i still get a flat tire... idk what to do do any advicev
