You seem to be smiling and upbeat 98% of the time but as we can see, all it takes to get you down is to be without a privy. Ahh, it is the simple things we cherish most. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
I have been watching your individual AT videos recently because I'm considering hiking it myself. I had watched the original documentary over a year ago where I recognized you stayed with Kevin, but watching this clip now I see that you went to the brewery with my brother and sister in law!
Iam so happy I found your channel. My cousin & I are section hiking NewFound Gap thru Hot Spring the end of July with built in extra days to add on if we want! I cant wait!!!
HA! I LOVE that version of Rocky Top! I don't have a dog in that rivary but I lived in Nashville for a spell and got to go to a few of those games. I liked the Bama fans..they were top shelf pro hecklers and haranguers ;)
I was hiking the liitle cataloochee trail this summer, the trail looked like an old creek bed full of rocks. I was about 2 miles in when all of a sudden I heard thunder and a torrential downpour came out of nowhere and the trail instantly flooded! It was past my ankles and I was soaked, I lost my backpack cover on that trail. I had to get naked in the parking lot when I got to the trail head so I could get in my truck without getting my seat wet. It was a great day lol
I don’t like mud. I also don’t like the bathroom situation. I also don’t like the tent situation. I also don’t really like the food situation. But I love hiking. I have a problem
Dixie, I hear you say you are doing 12 miles in one day. I trained for air assult school and I had to make 12 miles in 3hours. I was carrying a 30 lbs pack. I give you the conditions, I was marching on gravel and blacktop. I was only doing this once for this training session.
I can't remember from your first video, but what was the weight of your pack when you started and how many days of food were you carrying at that point?
This is excellent, you're doing so well. Just one question: When you use your waterproof pack cover, did you, I mean ARE you also using dry bags inside the pack for things like clothing? I know from your other video that you have some small things like paper in zip lock bags, but just wondering if you are using the bigger dry bags for everything else at the same time you're using that water-proof pack over. Well I'll let you get back to your walking. Keep Strong!
Linda Powell she made an extensive video on this subject, and it actually comes in more like 6,000. you should be budgeting 1000 a month just for on-trail expenses.
So...I think my friend who is hardcore AL fan, has a more explicit TN hate version of rocky top..it is funny....people down here take the football thing serious :) How is the PCT prep going? I am jealous! I have this inkling to do longer distance hiking but I doubt I will act on it till much later...my wonderful small children keep me pretty grounded at this point (curse/blessing)...have fun. Enjoying your videos...slow trickle of them here and there.
It's funny, I have heard that women either maintain or gain on long trails, and men look like beanpoles at the end. My guess for that? Women typically gain muscle slower, so I reckon you've lost what little fat you had, but have gained a little more muscle instead, and since then men already had the muscle, they just lost the fat.
Please don’t compare someone who has dropped weight on a long recreational hike to someone who was starved during the Holocaust. I’m sure you didn’t understand how disrespectful your words were.
Great example of the ineffectiveness of taxation. Everybody pays $20 to hike that portion of trail, presumably so enough money can be collected to build toilets and, guess what? Not a single toilet.
Dan Tyler it's to upkeep the trail, and ensure staff are on hand for when someone gets hurt has nada to do with a shitter and most sections that charge are national parks areas
josh spradling And, how many folks have gotten hurt or stranded on that part of the trail? As a general rule, stay as far away from taxation as possible... Life is easier the less you have to pay for it.
Well said. I am amazed this hiker reports that fees are collected for a length of the trail for a restroom and guess what? NO RESTROOMS ARE ON THIS PART OF THE TRAIL!! This should serve as a powerful example of how ineffective most governments are.
What no privy????? That is unacceptable...... I got to go man................. they have them , they just might not be very pretty. as far as the rain goes......I have got 11.89 inches from May 2 to May 24, 2015. I think I will build a boat.....
@@HomemadeWanderlust I’ve watched almost all of your videos over the past couple of years, but haven’t seen any of your Triple Crown thru hikes. Now I’m watching your AT series and loving the “vintage” Dixie. Thanks for all you do.

As a Vandy fan, I approve your version of Rocky Top.
So glad you got to eat at the Smoky Mountain Brewery. That's my favorite place in town.
Another great video, looking forward to your next one, and keep having loads of fun !!!!!!!

@3:00 By far my favorite edit in the series lol I'm starting my thru hike in March 2016, thanks for all the tips!

🥱🤙 stay cozy
Thank you for update on your dog, God bless
I was there when I still had Asthma ! That was when I was about 8yrs old standing inside a cloud !!!
Looks like a 2200 mile long Woodstock, without the music.
I've already watched your CDT hike, and now I'm watching this one, and I still laugh every time I hear you say 'Hakking' . . . LOL
lol, love the Bama version of Rocky Top!
How so you pack up in the rain and keep things dry?!
Every shelter I stayed at in the GSMNP had a privy! TN shelter don't have privys .

You were just a baby on this thru-hike LOL
The bug bites are most likely chiggers. Paint them with fingernail polish and it will make them stop itching.

How much does it usually cost, gear and food included to thru hike the AT? I'm guessing in the $2-3,000

Linda Powell Gear costs werent included in that figure, unfortunately
Pretty sure she included the costs that she was still coming due at home, cell phone, etc...
where did all the money go? (sung to the tune of where did all the flowers go?)
this is so great!!! so glad i subd
looking good.

Rocky Top you will NEVER be, home sweet home to me! RTR! Uh, I mean WE!
You should try dipping your Wendy's french fries in your chocolate frosty. You won't regret it. I promise.

Katherine Lipkin Keep crying about silly things Katherine
Rocky Top was funny.

I also do not like the University of Tennessee so I have to say.......GO DAWGS!
when you hiking again
Hopefully PCT 2017!
Hey Dixie...A friend of mine hiked the PCT this year. It looked fantastic. He had a great time. You will too when you go.
I got to do that too! Only been on parts..

it's fairly rare for people to start drowning at swimming pools and beaches too
we should remove life guards so as to reduce taxes.
that's Tennessee for you
drmlabs TN is one of the least expensive states to live in. No income tax no mandatory car insurance no advalorem on your vehicle etc etc etc.

somebody got the money , honey.
Did you ever try one of those plastic funnel devices that allow a woman to urinate while standing? I know women that think they work pretty well.

Freud called it penis envy.
freud misspelled it, its just PEEE envy.

This video is a bit cringey after watching the new videos haha. Sometimes its nice to look back and see how we have grown over the years though.
Sorry, I had to give you a thumbs down for the Rocky Top song.
Thumbs downs help the algorithm as much as thumbs ups, and comments even more. So, thanks!

I wonder why women build mussels and men burn fat on the trail.
