Looking forward to this series. I've had my R1T for two years and would buy another one in a heartbeat. It's the most versatile daily driver I've ever owned, and it's not even close. The charging network is definitely the limiting factor but with access to the Tesla network now that's much less of a concern and it keeps getting better. This truck has done everything I've asked if it, even things on the margins of its capabilities. We just towed an Opus OP-15 on a 1400 mile round trip and it handled it like a champ. Obviously that's an extreme case and if I was a full time RV-er I'd be running a gas or diesel 3/4 Ton, but those vehicles wouldn't be nearly as nice for every day living as the Rivian. Everything is a tradeoff and this truck has fit my needs very well so far.
Kills it! LOL. Honestly I'm not upset about the range. My Full to Empty range is about 165 so I can comfortably so 100-120 mile runs between chargers and we don't mind stopping every hundred miles or so to stretch anyway, as long as there are chargers on the spacing we're good to go. I can manage to charge without unhooking the trailer about 75% of the time but it's not always comfortable to do that. It's still much harder to tow a trailer with an EV these days, but I expect it to keep getting easier as more chargers roll out, especially the Rivian ones which typically have pull through spots for trailers.
I recently carried my R1T over Imogene and Engineer pass. Used about 10% of the battery to go over Imogene (about 16% going up but regained 6% on the way down). Biggest pain point was the narrow bridges. It otherwise never even flinched and I never even needed its highest suspension. For what I do which is usually not too far off the beaten path (or at least away from a campground or hotel with power). Definitely requires a bit more planning though to go into a remote area. Places like CO it’s easy somewhere like Montana it definitely wouldn’t be.
Yeah, for states like Colorado and California it’s a dream! Montana north of interstate 90 is a charging nightmare for highway travel. Let alone off-road.
The only issue with this video is it's negating the Tesla supercharger access. My R1T having the supercharger access allows me to go almost anywhere. Cross country trips are no longer a problem! Sweet video though!
Good review. As these get cheaper in the used market I think they will be great off-road vehicles. As an owner with over 30k already on it I can say it’s fantastic to take off-road. And I don’t really think about charging anymore now that I’m used to it.
Some real stats on a longer offroad drive with a quad R1T - 107 miles on the White Rim Trail in all-purpose gave us 1.58 mi/kWh at an average speed of 9 mph.
@GFC Yes, stock R1T on 20" OEM Pirelli Scorpion ATs. We had an iKamper Skycamp Mini 3.0 over the bed on OEM crossbar. We did the Rim in 3 days in Sept and ran the A/C and cooked off the inverter. Such a fun drive with the silence of an EV powertrain. So fun we're doing it again!
@johndavis7257 We were nervous about range at first but ended with about 33% battery, enough for a drive through Arches and back to Moab. We aired down to 31 psi for the Rim.
@@n3v3rsum3r3nice! White rim is on my list at some point. Did shafer to Moab via potash when I was there recently, weather unfortunately sucked and that drive was in a thunderstorm which was interesting lol Truck did surprise me with the range I ended with but I did check efficiency. Didn’t air down for that given the lack of technical obstacles and the R1Ts ability to soak up rough terrain in standard height Offroad mode.
I live in Montana with my R1T a hour from Bozeman and the great go fast camper group. I have loved my R1T though out the two years I’ve owned it . I live at 6000 ft and out of town.. I have had very little issues with my R1T .. mainly charging infrastructure.. but I lately had an issue with coyotes and rodents . A rodent got into my suspension and chewed up most of my wires and a group coyotes trying to get at the rodents and ripped my fenders off and bit my bumpers .. even my hydraulic line got punctured.. it’s a great truck but I’m not sure it’s ready for Montana
would your issue also occur with ICE vehicles? if yes, then no need to mention it in the first place. it would be like saying “it rained on my tesla in washington; therefore i dont think it’s ready for washington"
@@HarryKuloh yes it could and I have had 3 pack rats 🐀 in my wife’s bronco . But I can pop the hood and see the damage easily or I can find it before it’s to late on a ICE vehicle.. with the Rivian you can’t just pop the hood to check on the wires or periodically just check how the under the hood stuff is going. So with that a rodent could be in the vehicle and I would never know till it’s to late .. thank you for your input but I live in the mountains and this is a issue I think others would be aware of .. definitely not a major issue if you live in the city .
We have had a few R1T in our offroad driving and recovery classes. They are capable, the range is limiting and not being able to air the tires down much, due 20" wheel/tires. You can see footage on our social media Backroad 4WD Training.
@GFC I bought it new last year and it's sitting at 36k miles with 0 issues... I tossed 37s and a metalcloak gamechanger lift on at 1100 miles then cut up a 6ft commercial cap with rear doors and modified the frame to fit on my gladiator to drive out to EJS 23 last year and saw a few of your campers in real life! Feel in love with them!!
Noticed you were in rally or rock offroad and getting that 1.5 mi/kw. I feel like running conserve mode on the majority of dirt roads would have had you getting that higher range. Similar to how ICE guys run their trucks in RWD until 4x4 is needed. Also that 4 mi/kw max scale is whack. I notice when Im downhill for long (like 30 miles) even, it still stays there. My guess is that it actually goes higher but they dont want have that scale actually showing what it's getting. Pretty cool watching miles get added when I was coming down some CO passes last winter. At one point it added 10 miles plus the 30 miles I had just drove.
Yeah, could totally impact range. We will need to put a lot more adventure miles on this thing to understand real impact, but it’s going to happen once we get this camper sorted. Stay tuned!
The mountains of Colorado are easy. There's plenty of charging infrastructure. I've been all over the front range, down to the San Juans, out to Moab, and out to California. There are a couple areas around 4 corners, or Wyoming/Montana that could be tricky for road tripping, but the infrastructure is constantly getting better. My dual motor R1T is great offroad, and is a little more efficient than the quad motor all around.
I'm exactly the early adopter persona you described. I love my R1T. I'd really like to get answers to the questions you posed (ex: how to outfit for overlanding, pushing the limits, etc.). Excited for your next videos! BTW - I *have* offroaded it on more challenging trails than you did, and it was amazing - Rivian tech is like an offroading cheat code. I also have a lifted XJ with lockers, and the R1T can go everywhere the XJ can. But range and charging is still an issue. The XJ will take me anywhere I want to go and get me back. The R1T will take me anywhere where there's a charging station 😒
Thanks for watching John! We can’t wait to get into harder trails, I’m sure it’s up to the challenge. Unfortunately this is the only trail with any degree of technicality that we felt comfortable getting to with limited charging infrastructure in rural Montana.
Thanks for the video! I am very much looking forward to the next installments about integrating the Go Fast camper and (hopefully) other off-roading and camping gear.

Maybe an option if you just plan on being a day away from the nearest charging station. But doing a six day trip into places where you can't even get gasoline unless you bring it with you.. My friends and I do a lot of base camp type trips. We drive in, set up a camp and then spend a week driving around it. Fishing/wheeling.
Would love to see it do a GFC camping trip through or around the Gravellies from BZN and back. If it can't handle that for range, then it's pretty useless yet for the MTN West. My ICE 4x4s increase in range on the typical FS or county roads. Once I can take a full electric wheeling around the Tobacco Roots or Beartooths and back home to Bozeman, I'm sold.

I don't understand how this video helps customers understand the product line of Go Fast Campers. This is an extremely detailed truck review from the CEO that shows his joy for having purchased a futuristic truck but has almost zero value for GFC fans. The joy he has for his new truck is great but filming this was an incredible waste of staff resources and staff focus. This channel needs to be filled with product updates and custom workarounds and clever mods. Watching a stock Rivian review years after the truck has been released makes no sense. GFC fans want to see more videos about how the V2 Pro lighting kits are installed and used. What does it look like when the V2 Pro lighting kit is installed with a GFC that has a TurboCubby? We don't know because we're watching a random truck review. Try showing the GFC in tough weather conditions being warmed by a propane heater or cooled by a portable ac unit. What's the smartest workarounds for extreme conditions? What are the various best in class workarounds that the GFC forum is celebrating in 2024? We don't know cause we're watching a random truck review. I think many of us would rather see stress test videos of GFC products that reinforce the brand's commitment to quality parts and materials rather than random one-off stock built truck reviews. Congrats on the new truck. It's cool and we are glad you like it. Now let's get back to work.
You’ll be pleased with the new video releasing at 3pm PST then! This video you commented on is the intro of our Rivian build series, in this first installment, we test it stock. Thanks for your very insightful comment and we’ll keep this in mind while making future walkarounds! Not only is this channel for product updates and purpose built customer builds, but we want to encourage everyone to get out exploring. So a video like this can introduce a new audience to the offroad/overlanding lifestyle and market!
And here’s a question for you and the rest of our audience: Would you rather have us make 2 seperate channels? One for GFC Tech, which includes the more nitty gritty manufacturing process videos and product updates, and another for more community building videos like this?
After owning a Rivian R1T for the past year, I can confidently say, "NO. These trucks are not ready for off-road." The service centers try, but they're just not good enough at catching things that are wrong. Their software code is horrible, riddled with glitches. Their hardware choices are sub-par, driven by the need to get profitibabl fast, but leaving the consumer stranded with components that fail time and time again. Personally, I have not been able to off-road, something that I loved coming from a series of purpose-built Jeeps. My R1T experienced Suspension issues, broken axle, AC that failed 4 times, 12V battery died twice (was replaced both times), the High Voltage battery died and was replaced, the gateway (comms device for DCFC) died, trim falls off all the time. It's just a joke of a vehicle, and by far the worst experience ever. I've since gotten rid of my truck, canceled my R1S order (was supposed to be for my wife), and now I drive a Cyber Truck. Despite the ridiculous looks of the CT, it drives amazing, and I've had zero issues in 1 month, which is longer than I ever went without having an error in the Rivian.
Do you think your experience was an outlier? It does sound like you had a lot of legitimate issues. Would love to hear more about what you think of the performance of the R1t vs the cyber truck .
😂 when an EV suddenly BURSTS INTO FLAMES ... like at the Rivian plant .. FIRE TRUCKS can only WATCH IT BURN and watch the TIXIC LITHIUM CLOUD travel. Funny how gas cars NEVER JUST BURST INTO FLAMES
For 2023, the NTSB reports 1,530 ICE vehicle fires per 100,000 sold. 25 EV fires per 100,000 sold. ICE vehicle fires are a daily occurrence in all large metro areas of the USA.

Everything you just complained about you you had the receipts from the service center of the repairing all of it. I would love to see it.
@@darrelhanway5982 Of course I have them. Needed them for my Lemon Law Claim. Can't really show them via RUclips comments.
@@mitchsargent5543 I’m pretty sure you can
😂 when an EV suddenly BURSTS INTO FLAMES ... like at the Rivian plant .. FIRE TRUCKS can only WATCH IT BURN and watch the TIXIC LITHIUM CLOUD travel.
Funny how gas cars NEVER JUST BURST INTO FLAMES

Weird. gas cars burst into flames at 20x the rate of EVs.

Uh, retired firefighter here. Yes they do. At a much higher rate than EVs.
For 2023, the NTSB reports 1,530 ICE vehicle fires per 100,000 sold.
25 EV fires per 100,000 sold.
ICE vehicle fires are a daily occurrence in all large metro areas of the USA.
