    Very good video. I notice the vacuum extraction tube funnel shape is different to any other I have seen before. Is this a Nippy standard one or one you have made? What is it made of?

      It is sold by dealer. Vacuum was underpowered and I've since just replaced it with simple drop box below

    If you have ever used a Chinese bell knife on that machine, have you noticed a big difference between that and a Nippy knife?

    • @ViaromanaLeather
      @ViaromanaLeather  3 года назад +1

      though Japanrse/German one cost 3times more, I would only use trusted fortuna/nippy blade since I only replace them once a couple years. Everything (chinese) is cheap for a reason

      @@ViaromanaLeather I just received a Chinese machine and have hopes to improve skiving soft calf from 1mm to 0.5mm by installing Nippy knife. The machine handles everything else fine. Skiving down to 0.7mm is no problem. Going thinner is risky.

    When you use a Fortuna knife, do you use Type "S" or Type "K"? Have you noticed a difference between the Nippy knife and the Fortuna knife? I've been using a Nippy 301A, which is made of SKS51 steel. I think I should try a knife made of hardened German steel.

      I do not remember which one I used. but lot of Chinese fake blades out there. If they are too cheap, I say you stay away from.them.

      @@ViaromanaLeather I'm doing my due diligence to find reputable Chinese sellers that are selling authentic parts. It is still possible to find normal prices that are less than the wild western mark-up.

    My Nippy 301A finally arrived, but the four knife screws are too tight to be removed. Might you have any suggestions?

    • @ViaromanaLeather
      @ViaromanaLeather  3 года назад +1

      just use a biggest tight fitting screw driver or use automotive ratchet driver.

      @@ViaromanaLeather I did run out to the hardware store for a larger screwdriver. I finally got the stock Taking knife off and the 301A on. The difference really is amazing. Everything is easily 20% to 30% smoother.
