    It makes sense why so many people started saying that mega man 2 is the best in the series, it was probably one of the only nes games children beat in that age, since almost every other nes game is extremely hard, meaning that mega man 2 gave a lot of children very fond memories of it

    Fun fact: the Metal Blade has potentially infinite ammo. Your ammo goes down one tick with every 4 shots, and the counter resets every time you pause. Same for the Quick Boomerang.

I personally think the second game is good for a sequel but broken in design and I consider 3 to be better than both 1 and 2 for reasons I'll probably state in the next video. I think the reason this entry catches a lot more hype is that it's the "most improved" winner, adding the most foundational elements without even a change of console for additional possibilities. Certainly cements its quality relative to the first game, but further games had diminishing returns as a result (though my favorite is 4 hands down). Basing it on small polls and assuming people haven't played it is kinda off-base but there's definitely truth in its advertising.

      His rating I based on the rate he gave to mega Man 1, he considers the game to be pretty good and balanced, and it creates a quality that the other games need to achieve, so if a game has a B, it's because it's very fun, a good experience just like the first mega Man, basically, with those ratings he's kinda saying "this game, in my opinion, (doesn't) lives up for the legacy of a good mega man game"

    To be fair, with calling this game "Mega Man with a 2 after it", I'd argue a good way to think of it is that Mega Man 1 is Mega Man 2's Rough Draft. There's something vaguely a bit more refined about Mega Man II that wasn't in Mega Man I, aesthetically and in gameplay. Mind you, I do have some criticisms of it, the big one would probably be the Metal Blade, which is horribly overpowered.

    Bad level design was the Wily castle stage with that wall turrets and breakable wall that require you to have full crash bombs to beat it, and you can't easily farm on the stage going back in with all the enemies over spikes, so you might as well game over if you don't get him your first time. Sure you can akwardly kill the infinite spawning enemies to die barely on the ledge near the ladder down. That level is just terrible design.

      I disagree. Mega Man ZX has the best Mega Man music in franchise, in my opinion. Just listen to MMZX songs like Sky High, Ultramarine Meditation, Misty Rain, Ogre Claw, Industrialism and Black Burn. I'm playing it in Zero/ZX collection with Remastered Soundtrack mod using official remastered soundtracks by the developers themselves, and it's the most pleasant, music-wise, experience i had with Mega Man games. As for classic series... Mega Man 7, 10 and 11 music are better than Mega Man 2 music. Mega Man 2 music sounds just... bland to me, maybe because i listened to it so many times, or maybe because i played NES games with much better music.

      The music of Mega Man 2 has true BANGERS, I give it that. The music is amazing! But that's just it. It is great music in a technical spectrum and I'm glad it exists, but throughout the series, especially since Mega Man 4, the music actually became meaningful. My favorite is the soundtrack of Mega Man 6. The music doesn't have the same concise impact in your mind, but it's very emotional! It serves a certain feeling of finale, epicness and melancholy. Throughout the whole game! Like, I love Blizzard Man, Wind Man and the Mr. X stages just for that reason so much! Also Tomahawk Man and Yamato Man's themes are so tremendously underrated! Mega Man 2 doesn't serve this kind of meaningfulness. Maybe except for Bubble Man and Wily Stages 1-2 because they actually fit the environment and feeling.

  • @TheJadeFist

    The pallate swap jumpy things, are due to the level pallate. The NES only let you have a few colours at once on screen, to save on file size and system RAM and sprites simply refred to a colour ID currently loaded. It's also why the energy refills match Rock's current weapon colour and in futre NES games why they flashed alongside Rock when he's charging.

    I always found this notion of this game being the best one to be extremely overstated.
    It's not only a pretty flawed game, but it has some fake difficulty and questionable design choices (Boobeam Trap, the infamous section in Heat Man's level, the quick lasers, and a bunch of other shit).
    And if the later games didn't add so much substance and polish to the series, I wouldn't find this so baffling, but because they do, I just feel like most of the people who call this "the best one" nostalgia biased.
    Even as a kid when I was crazy about these games, I've never found this one more enjoyable than 1, and definitely didn't find it better than anything that came afterwards. I always thought 4 was the best of the NES games, and I still stand by that, but we'll get to that when the video on that one is out.
    I feel like it's a mix of nostalgia and them playing this one first, so everything else seems less impactful as a result, but if you play them in reverse order, by the time you get to this, a lot of things feel obviously lacking.
    I don't think the game is bad, but I do find it severely overhyped. I especially dislike that because of the notion that this one was the golden standard, 9 and 10 ditched features from after this game, which I'm still disappointed about, but 11 fixed that, and 9 and 10 are still better than this, so whatever.

    I replayed Mega Man 2 a couple months back for my channel, and I have to say that I disagree with it being worse than Mega Man 1. I like it more than some of the later games too. That being said, it's not my favorite Mega Man game. You are probably right when you say that it's only considered the best one because its the most popular one. Mega Man X1 gets the same treatment when it comes to the Mega Man X series.

    To be honest, I quite enjoy Mega Man 2 like a lot of others and think it’s a good game overall, but I certainly wouldn’t consider it the best of the Classic series (let alone the best of the entire franchise).
    If I was to rank all of the Classic Mega Man titles from Best to Worst, it’d be:
    Mega Man 6
    Mega Man 7
    Mega Man 11
    Mega Man V GB
    Mega Man 9
    Mega Man 10
    Mega Man III GB

    Mega Man 4

    Quick Man's trial and error stage design, terrible bird enemy placement in Crash Man's stage (if you don't have Leaf Shield/Metal Blade/Flash Stopper), some of the worst weapon balance in the franchise, and Boobeam Trap's entire existence aren't a lot of issues, but goddamn did they leave a bad impression on me. I played classic Mega Man 1-8 before I had proper internet access so I was confused to find that people considered 2 the best. I'm assuming it's just as the video says with early internet personalities playing it up and everyone else just going with it.
    Personally, I find Mega Man as a whole to be on the same level as Sonic the Hedgehog as far as consistency and quality are concerned, but one is somehow beloved while the other lambasted.

    Y'know, I agree that MM2 isn't as great as people make it out to be, but I feel that on the other side of the spectrum, there's people who overly criticize games mostly because of their overblown reputation. It honestly seems that you review games somewhat more on their reputation more than the game itself.
    You even said That MM2 doesn't do much better than MM1, yet you ranked it worse than MM1. Was it because the game was overhyped and you found yourself disappointed, or just generally not what you expected it to be by the consensus? Was it that the fact that there was a weapon imbalance? If those are the reasons why games get lowered to mediocre and/or garbage MM games, then I'm surprised you haven't said nearly the same thing about every Classic Mega Man game. While yes, Metal Blade is an unbalanced weapon. But MM2 has more Powerful, Unique, and Practical tools.
    Besides Metal Blade, you have weapons like Air Shooter, a powerful, triple-shot, and ironically anti-air weapon that's great as a shotgun to enemies as much as it gets rid of aerial foes. You have Quick Boomerang, that shoots fast and has arguable more ammo than Metal Blade, and the arc that it shoots covers a good amount of distance. You have Crash Bomb, a simple forward moving bomb that latches itself onto walls for massive explosion damage, and that's only to name a few.
    Compare that to MM1's line of weapons and what do you get? Elec Beam, Fire Storm and arguably Rolling Cutter? And even then, Rolling Cutter is super situational.

    • @moonman4307
      @moonman4307 3 года назад +3

      Mm1 has much better weapon balance than 2 tho. Literally every weapon except for metal blade and quick boomerang in 2 are hot garbage for 99% of the game. Air shooter is way too niche and doesnt do much damage to aerial enemies bc the tornadoes spread out, crash bomb barely does damage to most enemies with a ridiculously high cost, same with bubble lead but not as costly, leaf shield doesnt block projectiles and flies away the second you move, and time stopper doesnt last long enough, and really isnt that useful outside of quick man stage, which isnt well designed to begin with. Even if the other weapons were actually good, metal blade simply outclasses all of them, theres basically no reason to use the other weapons in the stages when metal blade does it all.
      Mm1 does a marginally better job with weapon balance, which is really sad for mm2 since mm1 was the first game. Hyper bomb sucks, super arm is too situational and rolling cutter is outclassed by its better peers, but the other weapons have legitimate uses and advantages. Thunder beam is the best of the bunch, but it isnt so overpowered like the metal blades. Fire storm has a lingering dmg shield, which is really useful against the small enemies that are grouped like the fleas. Ice slasher is a great utility weapon as it freezes enemies in place for a decent amount of time, and allows u to switch weapons. Not to mention there are less weapons to begin with, so even though 3 good weapons isnt much better than 2 good weapons in a vacuum, in game that results to 1/2 of the weapons being good in mm1 as opposed to 1/4 in mm2, and the fact that metal blades are the most op weapon in mm history, while thunder beam is great, but isnt so great that it vastly overshadows the other options. No other game except 2 and 5 has such awful weapon options, and its due to one or 2 options being so good relative to the rest, that there is no reason to use the other options, which is bad design, and is a pretty major flaw in classic mm games

      @@moonman4307 I'll rebut that the Elec Beam Pause trick (That ate through bosses like Atomic Fire eats up weapon energy) is bad design and also argue that its more broken than an 8-way, low cost weapon. My main point of that comment was mostly the hypocrisy of his statements.

    • @moonman4307
      @moonman4307 3 года назад +2

      @@fogblades6811 i see where ur getting at but im not sure if its fair to count the pause exploit into the weapon design and balance since not only is it external from the actual weapons, but you can use any lingering weapon for pause exploit, such as fire storm and rolling cutter.
      I think another major point to consider is that mm1 is the very first game in the series. Most things arent gonna be super refined, so as such, some things such as weapon balance arent gonna be great, as seen with hyper bomb and super arm. The problem is that mm2, a sequel, has worse weapon balance than the first game, which is really unfortunate since it shouldve learned from its predecessor, and improved weapon balance, but instead, all the power went to metal blades and quick boomerang.

    • @fogblades6811
      @fogblades6811 3 года назад

      @@moonman4307 sorry, but just because a game came out during when it was the only game in the series, doesnt absolve it of its poor qualities. MM1 had it's fair share of unbalanced weapons, outdated mechanics like score, and enemies that did WAAAY too much damage. Honestly, people mostly used the pause trick when they found out that you can do that. Regardless of whether or not it was a symptom for "First game syndrome", it's a bug that Capcom fixed in all games after MM1 for quality of life changes within the series. MM2 did a lot of good for the series as it brushed up a lot of the problems that plagued MM1. Keep in mind that this is coming from a MM7 fanboy. But I'll sum it up like this: MM1 to MM2 is like SF1 to SF2. Sure, both are playable and have things about them that may make them clunky and VERY unpolished compared to later titles, but you can clearly see which one ironed out most of the kinks the other game had and just how fun one is over the other.

    • @moonman4307

      @@fogblades6811 good points if you want to judge each game objectively, i just wish 2 didnt have such garbage weapon balancing and wily stages, couldve actually been one of the best. I do think that the games shouldnt just be judged by their objective nature, factors like the first game in a series should be taken into account when judging a game, but you do you.
      I also wish that tgx acknowledged the impact of having 8 robot masters. Its such a huge change, one that basically is synonymous with mega man now, and adds more potential for robot master routes, and adds more content without bloating it. But yea, 1 and 2 are definitely not the best around, but are good blueprints for the future titles.

Mm3 has too much padding and weak Wiley stages. 5 and 6 didn’t add a lot of new mechanics. 9, 10, 11 are all great modern entries, but it’s hard to beat something so influential and far and away the best soundtrack.
