  • Fabric Hut was kind enough to send me a pre cut quilt kit called the Iris Quilt. This quilt comes together quickly and the pattern has us put the rows straight across and then trim the quilt on point. Join me as I work through putting blocks together to create a beautiful quilt. This pattern can be used over and over and over and is perfect for scraps.

I made this pattern in twin size last year for granddaughter. It was tricky, but not too difficult. WARNING it is NOT symetrical before trimming. Definitely want to refer to the layout guide and count, count, count😊 I, too, had to rip out more than once, and it ran off the edges of design wall; had to put one half on spare bed. Turned out great and she loves it! Great tutorial, thank you.

What a cool amazing quilt! I’ve never seen anything like it. It really REALLY needed to be demonstrated, and you did a great job of clarifying how it went together. I really appreciated how you showed your mistakes - I’m not a really experienced quilter, but your videos always make me feel that anything is possible. No discouragement, no problem, just work it through and be thrilled with the results. It looks so much more complicated than it actually is. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing the making of this kit, it’s beautiful 😻 and I love that it’s all cut out and ready to sew. Such a great idea for busy workers and people with hand problems. Fabric Hut are on to a winner with this idea. I’m in Australia so the exchange rate makes it difficult to afford items from the US unfortunately but go for it you lucky Americans! Thank you for sharing again. I truly enjoy your videos. You are so real. So down to earth. If you make a mistake, you are easy to laugh at yourself. Finished is sometimes better than perfect. I have looked at the Fabric Hut kits. They are very reasonably priced. And providing the backing with the kit? Who does that. I can't think of anyone that does. Well, not without costing extra. My sewing area in a 10X10 space in the basement next to the washer and dryer. My husband made my cutting table. My embroidery machine sits on an old chest of draws and my sewing machine is on a plastic folding table with a set of plastic draws under it. Ireland is one of my bucket lists wishes. I cant wait to here more about this.

Your quilt is beautiful. However, this is not the type of already cut kits that my friend and I are looking for. Years ago we had a factory in Kentucky (and another one in North Carolina) that made and sold kits already cut into traditional quilt patterns. My first already cut kit was the Bow Tie (no additional fabric needed to make the double bed quilt top); and, it was beautiful when finished. The next three kits were appliqued Hearts and Grandmother's Fans (extra fabric was needed to applique pieces on). These kits are wonderful for beginners to start with.
Both my friend and I have been bothered by other people asking us to cut out all the pieces for their quilt tops. Most of them don't want to be bothered with choosing the fabrics and cutting for themselves; however, one young woman was born with a birth defect that gave her extra fingers and "NO THUMBS". She really could not cut for herself. I was hoping that someone knows where some of the traditional pattern cut kits may be available to buy. I'm sure there are many other people who would love to make quilt tops (but can't cut what they want out for themselves). Veterans are now using piecing and quilting as part of their recovery program. I am one of them.
