Great timing. The kids (4 and 6yo) and I have a hot cocoa trek into the woods planned today. 6yo when he saw you use birch bark to start your fire "daddy, we have birch trees!" Nice info as always, thanks.
Well, a friend and I both purchased Brennerles, based on your vid. We received them within two weeks of ordering. The web browser went back and forth in terms of translating the German into English, but my friend is legally blind and he successfully navigated through the process so it can be done. The owners’ manual that comes with the stove is only in German, as you know, but taking photos of the pages using the Google Translate Smartphone app did the trick. Still, it would be nice if Brennerle at least punished an online manual in English (not that any of this is hard to figure out). 1/4 the weight of the 5” Firebox Gen2. 1/2 the weight of the titanium version of the Gen2. Folds flat so it takes near zero space in the pack. Brilliant! Thanks for reviewing this one, Wade.
Hi Andrew glad you like the stove! I agree it would be nice if a English manual was supplied. Tobias the owner is a one man show. The cost of translating and printing a English language version would be cost prohibitive most likely. Thanks for watching and for the feedback on the stove I really appreciate it!🔥🍻
Good morning Wade.... great video mate 👍. Neat looking stove and a great design. Like you say the multi piece can be fiddly to put together. It is great to se you are keeping well. Stay safe, all the best, Mark 👍😀.
Nice and compact stove. Works well. But a tad pricey at $132.00 CDN. I have used this type of stove for many years traveling throughout the Western Arctic, in all seasons. Never lets me down. I use the the Firebox kit. Very versatile and well made. Nice to see you back. Was expecting you to make a hot toddy on a windy and cold day. Stay safe. 👍🥃
Thanks for the review Wade! Looks like a stove I would carry when backpacking. It is light, compact, and easy to set up. I usually carry a Trangia stove with me, so I like that this stove is compatible with it. Stay safe everyone.
That's a very cool stove! I like how light it is, that it packs flat and is versatile with fuel. It looks big enough that I could fill it with twigs, light it up and it wouldn't need constant attention/feeding like some smaller twig stoves...Am I right on this? Anyway, thanks for sharing it with us! Look forward to seeing you around....I hear they lifted restrictions up that way today!
Hey brother, ya the big burn chamber is a huge advantage. A Swedish torch burn in this stove would burn quite a long time unattended. Thanks for stopping by 👍
Hey Wade. Cool unit. I have a Solo that I use occasionally. It fits inside my billie pot so it's not taking up extra room. It takes a bit of babysitting though to keep going, takes small pieces of fuel and it's awkward to feed while burning. The stove in your review looks like a much bigger firebox and easier to feed while burning. Folding flat it would take next to no room in my pack. Thanks for the review
I did the kettle fits perfectly. Those two sticks are only to reduce the height of the kettle. It's optional I don't usually use them. The Trangia stove itself fits inside the stove in a adaptor. Sorry for any confusion bud!👍
@@Woodswalker1965 You demonstrated it perfectly. I was just thinking that two sets of notches on the top rim would hold the rods from sliding. I’m a bit of a fumbler, it would be my luck that the sticks would move and I’d loose the pot. lol
It's great to see you again! Nice beard! I haven't camped or backpacked in months since buying the land and starting the cabin project...its consumed all my extra time. But I have spend plenty of time in the woods hanging in my hammock in the cabin lol. Takes care buddy Stan
Hi Wade. Nice to see you again. How do you like this stove vs a firebox stove? I bought the SS large firebox stove. It stays in my pack I take every where I go. I travel a lot with my job. Thanks for sharing. Take care my friend.🇺🇸🔪🔥🌲
Hey buddy. Well to be honest performance is about the same. The Firebox has more options and accessories available so that's a bonus. Perhaps I'll do a comparison at some point. Take care!
WOW, the first thought when I saw how you unfolded it was to say "ooooohhh". I didn't expect a ready-made chimney to appear. certainly it is a very innovative model even if it is very simple. the only doubt that comes to me is long-term durability, in the sense of using it every day for a month straight, for example, will the steel it is made of last? I have built many using mostly bean cans or 3 kg containers of coffee (I live in Italy and here the bar makes an espresso coffee. they use the freshly ground beans directly ... those beans are stored in containers of steel placed above the machine that grinds them time and time again) these types of steel containers that I used over time got pierced and became incandescent. here this is my only doubt. otherwise the woodstove is very interesting .. Greetings from Italy.
Thanks very much for watching my friend.👍 I see your point but this is a special spring steel which is designed to be heated and cooled and used again, a empty coffee can is not. The beauty of using empty coffee cans to make stoves is that they are free and there is always more raw materials to make another when they fail, and that's awesome!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Take care👍
Good review Wade! That’s an interesting design. I can see a lot of positives there. I’ve just recently bought a Honey Stove in titanium. It’s lighter than this one but it is a bit fiddly to put together! I do love hobo stoves - never seen this one before so this vid has been really useful 😊 Thanks Wade. - ATB, Mark 👍
Hey Wade🙂 Back with a vengeance I see👍🏻 lots of new videos. I really like the quick setup of that stove. It’s a bit big and open for me though. I will carry a bushbuddy if it’s raining. I can use it under my tarp with a much less chance of burning holes in it. Hey would you be willing to part with one of those carbon skillets you have?
It is a nice compact stove. The only problem i have is the soot it leaves on pots and pans. This is why i use a gas stove when canoe camping. How do you deal with your soot covered pots and pans Wave. Thank you for this video.
Hi Roland yes soot will always be an issue. I keep my pots in bags so the soot doesn't transfer. Another option are the stainless steel scrubbies available at most Dollar Stores or hardware stores. Scrub the soot off in the lake. No soap is required or chemicals! To each their own though. Gas stoves work great too🔥
Neat stove. Remarkably light. I want to buy it but I don’t use my Firebox G2 or Nano or venerable Bushbuddy enough as is. How does it compare to the FB G2?

I used it a fair bit last summer actually, mostly for making coffee and quick boil ups. Great little stove🔥
Is it lighter than the Firebox stove?
By they way I am really glad I got the GSI Stainless Kettle. I now use it for my tea whether indoor or outdoors.
Hey bud, yes it's much lighter . The FB Gen 2 has more available options. Glad you're liking the GSI kettle👍

What kind of tea kettle is that, Wade? I like the design of the lid. Doesn’t look like a Trangia.
It's similar to the Trangia but it's from GSI. Great little kettle and it was very reasonable.
Nice review, nice stove, but at over $100 (us) is a little high.
