    Another guy who doesn't like the taste of hid own cooking so he has to kill it with hot sauce.......LOL! J/K! Yup! JD hot is a must for making a good sausage gravy. Just enough heat. My dad puts pepper on EVERYTHING! The last fishing trip, I made up a batch of gravy. Told home he didn't have to put any pepper on it. He scoffed at me. About halfway through his meal he looked like he had just walked out of the shower. I picked up the stove awhile back, but haven't had a chance to break it out yet. Hopefully soon! And i''ll be making up a batch of biscuits and gravy for sure!

    I've ordered the firebox and some of the cookware, but I can't see me being able to work with these items that just sort of "rest" on each other and slide around. I know that if I try putting coals on top of a dish that's just resting and trusting to gravity to stay on top of another dish that it will at some point slide and dump ash all over what I'm cooking. Has the author or anyone else out there found a similar setup, but where the rim of one dish sort of "nests" in to the rim of the other? Not locking necessarily, just resting down into a fitted depression or something, like how lids on pots work. With a smooth surface just resting on another smooth surface while you're cooking, stirring, moving coals around, etc. I'm just way too clumsy to have that work efficiently, it puts so much delicacy and accident into the operation. I love everything about the concept except I just need that one thing more; for the "lid" dish to rest down into some kind of fitted depression of the "bottom" dish. Thanks for taking to time to review.

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965  3 года назад

      Hanks for watching. Some people use a alligator paper clip to clip the two plates together. That pretty much solves the problem. I usually don't bother with this extra step.

    • @1kcb796
      @1kcb796 3 года назад +1

      @@Woodswalker1965 Thanks for responding. Yeah I've seen the binder clip technique, but for my rig I'm trying to minimize pieces that can be lost, adding steps, etc. I know that just being careful and taking my time is one solution, but I'm looking VERY hard for some setup where the pan and lid fit together for some security when cooking. I'd love to have one of them have a depression in it that you can set the coals in, that would be great. I will likely try getting some kind of vintage unrelated aluminum pans/tins from yardsales and trying to hammer something out. Anyone feel free to hit me up if you find something. Can't wait for my first burn on the firebox!

    Time to catch up with woodswalker1965...... biscuits and gravy? just loses it in the translation here we think of digestives or Oreo's when we hear biscuits, (cookies to you, I think) LOL so we hear cookies and gravy 🤢 and then you produce that!,👍 im trying not to look 👀 at the cook kit too as the last thing i need is another set, but it does look good, but can i ask what is the process for seasoning a pan or skillet perhaps you could show us chaps this side of the pond ..please.. on a rainy night....if you would be so kind, I would not know where to start. as always Wade top video, top food, regards Matt🍻🍻

    Hi Woodswalker, me again. I recently made a couple things using the same setup you have, and it worked out pretty well, I like the firebox stuff. One thing that's killing me though is the soot. I previously cooked on the solo stove, which seemed to cut down greatly on the soot, I'm guessing from the secondary "gasifying" combustion. But my little firebox adventure left me with some serious soot layer, some of it actually seemed crystallized onto the pan, and the circular grooves in the bottom of the pan got filled in too. Wouldn't bother me so much except it also REEKS; everything in my bag smelled like that soot/creosote chemically smell, it was really pervasive. What's your go-to technique for getting rid of soot, especially while on the trail? Thanks for your great videos

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965  3 года назад +1

      Good question! I avoid burning pine or spruce if possible, it's quite sooty at the best of times. Also try not to overfill the stove, that might help in reducing smoke and soot.
      Soot WILL happen no matter what though. I use a handful of sand to clean the outside of my pots or even better a stainless steel scrubbie. They are shaped like a ball. Quite cheap to buy and clean up the pot very well without soap!
      I'll address it in a future video. Maybe a cook kit video?
