Lorne is an absolute legend. His earlier albums, "Bill Please" and "All of You" are excellent as well.

People need to get their ears out of their butts and realize what an amazing musician Lorne Lofsky is!
    Everyone like players who rip
But this guy rips in a whole different way!

Anybody knows what strings Lorne uses?
I try to do jazz (lifelong quest) and I quite like Strat - so strings are important part of good "jazz tone".

I was a devout Gibson Les Paul fanboy for most of my guitar playing journey until one day about a year ago I found a 1986 Ibanez Roadstar series 2 RG440 all original except for the tremolo bar in almost new old stock condition and although I was not an Ibanez fan the price was crazy low so I borrowed the money for it with the intention of flipping it for a profit knowing how Ibanez collectors were I thought I would sit on it and use it until It sells seems as I didn’t have a guitar with single coils or a tremolo and having a love of Japanese built guitars especially Fujigen and well before I plugged it in as soon as the seller handed it to me and I felt the weight and the neck I had fallen in love with it and later I ended up selling my 07 Gibson Les Paul BFG that I bought brand new right out of high school it was my first real Gibson I actually got more than I had originally paid for it brand new and I bought myself a second Ibanez Roadstar this time it was an 84 RS 530 same HB pickup and push push coil splitting electronics but has a different bridge that’s solid AF as far as tuning is concerned but it doesn’t have even close to the range of the top mounted edge of the RG440 so I use it as a hard tail but the fine tuners have far more range and allow for switching from standard to a drop tuning and back multiple times during a jam session and not being bottomed out or having to mess with the lock nut because the fine tuner just can’t get it quite there after two hours of SRV bends and Zakk pinched harmonics ….. and in the last year the prices of these old Ibanez Roadstars have gone up considerably and some of the nicer models sell for about the same price as a used USA Strat so I don’t think I would call them the pore mans Strat anymore plus they’re built in the same factory and I assume staff as the fender Strats of that era were being built in/by and they all have GoToh hardware the only difference is the pickups and the shape although they share a silhouette there’s just something that I find really attractive with the Roadstar body shape and omg the headstock is second only to the 6 in line classic Jackson headstock as my favourite 6 in line headstock design ironically enough it’s the modern Ibanez “duckbill” headstock that was the main reason for my aversion to Ibanez guitars for the first 19 years of my guitar playing journey and the super flat and super thin necks weren’t my thing either I mean I have a Jackson RR5 that had a flat neck that’s very good for classical style hand positions but it’s not super thin and the nut width is narrower than the wizards are but omg the Roadstar DX neck carve is the same size neck but rounded off on the back not flat so there’s more wood it’s just like the Jackson was sanded down in the middle to flatten it out and what I’m getting at is that the Roadstar necks have a cult reputation online for being the most comfortable necks ever and the ones that came factory oiled maple without any finish at all are so slick …… the Epiphone Elite/elitist 61 sg reissues from the early 2000’s have a very similar neck carve as well so I have a theory that there is a common neck carve that fujigen has and they just refine it to the given needs of whatever signature neck shape of the brand they are building guitars for at the time and so they’re all similar because they all start from the same DNA sorry for the long winded comment I’m just so passionate about these guitars and they’re really a hidden gem the best kept secret in high quality professional grade guitars that are realistic for the average high school kid with a part time job to be able to afford instead of the newest limited edition Epiphone prophecy and they’re getting a real vintage instrument that’s built in the same factory that builds 4-6000$ guitars today but they’re not easy to find in good shape and at a fair price but the hunt is half the fun lol

Big thanks to Lorne and interviewer for this. It's nice how he immediately started with an deep Ed Bickert breakdown, and when the convo shifted towards individual pursuit he pulled out his guitar to share stuff he is currently checking out. An audio picture is worth more than a thousand words.

Lofsky is such a world class, heavy guitar player and so original even though he is very influenced by Bill Evans and Ed Bickert. Nice guy too and I have had the pleasure of hanging and playing with Lorne over the years.

What a great interview. Thanks for doing this. I had a few lessons with Lorne in the 90’s and learned so much from him. I have the same model Ibanez he has (except mine has humbuckers). It has one of the nicest necks I’ve ever played and a lovely tone. I bought it used in 1990 and didn’t even plug it into an amp at the store. I picked it up, played one chord and said “I’ll take it.” I’ve bought and sold so many guitars over the years but this one is my “forever” guitar.

A bottomless well of harmonic wisdom and insane voicings, Lorne never fails to amaze me with his impeccable taste, pocket swing feel and an ever fresh approach of constant exploration, endlessly honing his masterful skills. Moreover, he is a true gentleman, a very warm and generous person with a great tongue-in-cheek sense of humour ! I've been a huge fan since 1995-96 when I had the privilege to attend his masterclasses at York University in Toronto ... Thank you for sharing this great interview ! Greetings from France !
