if like me, you get a bunch of this error ''secondary collider [number] group is out of hierarchy unity'' when trying to export the model, the reason is the following:
when you do the first step, window>bone weight transfer without entering into prefab edit first (RMB on the model you droped into hierarchy), unity will allow it. But the second step, moving into hierarchy the weight painting information from the head, to the hips, it will automatically force you to enter prefab edit mode.
Its because you made a change in the instanced element present in hierarchy, and then a different change in the prefab, that it doesnt work. You have to enter prefab edit at the begining and make both changes, to the prefab.
I was getting this error with unity 2019.4.2F1 with univrm 0.88 and bone weight tool 0.4
Thank you for sharing! 😊
How you do all of these? I'm lost in Unity :(
my errors are all VRM 10/universal render pipeline and runtime mesh utility
NVM i fixed it
I have to say this. Thank you for this. While I don't use this for tails, it helps out a LOT with making stuff for body horror Vtubers and Robots. Again thank you so much.
@@sleepymonstersstudio1227 I am so glad you find it useful! I also use this method for a lot more than tails ^^b
I was just a little confused the second part of moving to the right "root", I had to search there, but I found it. Your videos are awesome, I could really help a friend attaching the tail ^^
That's awesome! Glad the video helped 😊
TYSM this worked like a charm you are a life saver!!
I am so glad it was helpful! ☺️
Thank you for helping me, you really helped me with this video, thank you
Thank you so very much for the tutorial! Your tutorials are so thorough and easy to follow
I am so glad to hear that! :D
i love your videos, thank you for this 😊
You are very welcome! I am glad you are enjoying them! 😊
Miss you Lady Aska!!
Awwn, thats so sweet of you!
I am working on a comeback!
(I had just a lot of unexpected stuff happening q_q)
If everything goes well, I could be back as early as next month. :)
@@LadyAska Yay! Hope that everything goes well!
Thank you so much, it worked! Although there were some difficulties ^^
Hey Lady Aska my friend i miss you as my friend and the way you were so helpful.
Best to do this one avatar at a time. If you have two on screen the Bone Weight Tool doesn't group items by avatar. So avatar A hair 14 is right next to avatar B hair 14.
Then there is a glitch if an avatar was transfered from VRoid 0x to 1x. It creates a "taffy pull" effect on tails. It doesn't seem to happen with avatars made entirely in either version. I got around it by just remaking the tail in 1x.
Thank you for the heads up!
I didn't use this version yet on a multiple-avatar project, so I had no clue! :)
How do I fix the taffy pull glitch?
@@Aqua_Autie_1 I remade the tail using a new hair mesh in VRoid Studio 1x.
@@panelvixen sorry if I ask a lot of questions heh, but what exactly is vroid studio 1x?
@@Aqua_Autie_1 Shorthand for VRoid Studio version 1 through 2. In programs there tends to be a lot of numbers and periods used so I condense it down using the letter X. Another example was Windows 9x was shorthand for all versions for Windows 95 through Millennium.
I'm not sure if you ever made a video about it, but to those who cannot find it in Window even now, make sure you're using the UniVRM download, not the VRM download in the github. Minor things but literally the sole reason I wasn't able to get it to work. The two download files just so happen to be right next to each other, with VRM being the one on top.
Thank you for the head's up!
I can make a little video about that specifically, as this problem wasn't present, when I initially made the video.
@@LadyAska In that case, I would also make sure to specify versions that we know work very bluntly lol, it can definitely help with that confusion.
@@ZetaMAGES Will keep that in mind, thank you! :)
ty
only just now started having this issue but I get an error whenever I try to move bone weights that says "there is no skinnedmeshrenerer attached to the "hair" game object, but a script is trying to access it". the model does in fact have a skinnedmeshrenderer, so idk what the heck is wrong.
I never had this problem.
If you want to see if we could solve it, feel free to contact me on Discord.
(@ladyaska)
I assume it's something that happened maybe during export, but would have to check that on the model itself.
i have the same problem
So I learned what it was since I'm working on a model rn and had to mess with it again, but not how to fix it. So I was using the hairs attached to the head, because despite me doing everything correctly, exporting with the same version of vroid, having the same versions of everything etc, for some reason when I import my vroid model into unity, I do not have a dropdown for hair (like in 2:24), I can only see the hair on my model when I go to the neck dropdown. I have no idea why and I've scoured a ton of different tutorials to try to find what I'm doing wrong, but everyone just seems to magically have this hair dropdown while I don't. Even if I don't duplicate and convert to vrchat and just upload the model as is, I see "hair" but it's not a dropdown, it just lets me click and see all of the hair. I do use unity 2019.431 but that's because I have an issue with vrchat SDK not uploading, so I have to use it, but I don't think a different unity version would cause me to be missing out on an entire dropdown.@@LadyAska
(Edit: quickly tested in the other version of unity and still don't have the hair dropdown.)
PERFECT TUTORIAL TYSM
I am glad it helped! :)
You should show how you can now transfer the weights of many bones all at once, for like people with Kitsune tails or other, multi-strand tails!
Awn, sorry that this didn't come through the right way.
(I could've sworn I had it in the script q_q')
@@LadyAska Nah, it's ok. Just make a quick add-on! "Sorry, folks! I forgot _another cool feature_ of the updated Bone Weight Transfer Tool! Blahblahblah..." Then show them how to do it. :D
@LadyAska Vroid now has Tails so i am trying to make Tentacle hair with them but it seems im locked to only 5 attachments. im sure this trick here will let me switch the hip to head for it. Do you know of a way to get around the attachment limit or should i just make do with just using the Hair mesh ?
If they put the limit, then that's likely what you are stuck with.
For tentacle hair though, I would still do it with hair actually, since you can put a bunch and you don't have to reattach anything after, since it's already on the head 😊
(they have bones too, btw, that you can put yourself...while the new tails come pre-boned ...so no way of customizing anything 😅)
I'm stuck "NullReferenceException object reference not set to an instance of an object (BoneWeightTransfer.Execute (UnityEngine.GaneObject targetObject, UnityEngine.GameObject sourceBone, UnityEngine targetBone at Assets/Editor/BoneWeightTranfer.cs:260) But line 260 have "BoneWeight[] meshBoneweight = mesh.boneWeights;" How to fix it?
When in the process are you getting this error?
@@LadyAska In BoneweightTransfer > Seperate Mseh Mode
@@KDemon114 This could have so many reasons now:
Check if you used the right versions of everything.
Are your meshes really separate or did you accidentally combine them during export?
Check if you exported with vrm0 and not either vrm1 and if the univrm plugin you are using is for vrm0.
I have to assume that you did the rest correctly, as shown in the video.
@@LadyAska Thank you so much I can fixed it. Thank you ❤
i thought i give it another chance but only one file was able to load into unity from my vrm and all the other ones didnt work QAQ i just give up already
What other files are you trying to load in?
I get SO many errors after importing both packages. i've used all the same versions of things as you have listed. can't even get the top bar to have VRM as an option. nor can i find a bone weight transfer option
Ok, i got it sorted. all good
Yeah, I heard it’s going pretty bad atm. I don’t know what Unity did, as nothing else changed.
I also get a lot more errors as of late.
I am using atm the old Unity version 2019.4.31f1 with univrm 0.92.0 and even with a few errors it usually works
@@LadyAska i got things to work, but the transfer never told me if it finished and the next step wasn't needed, since i tested and the tail works fine. at least i have a way that works though.
Everything works except after exporting, the vrm ends up having a sheen on it that looks so weird help
Feel free to message me on Discord, we are getting a ton of weird problems lately and I haven't heard this one yet.
I am ladyaska over there.
Just shoot me a message with a screenshot :)
Thank you so much for the tutorial!! It's really helpful!!
I made a ribbon for my model that goes around the hips, however, when I try to transfer the bone weights, an window appears loading and importing the assets and it takes what it seems an infinite time.
I never heard about something like this.
How much hair/bones are in that ribbon of yours?
Sometimes when its a lot, it can take a lot of time and if you don't get it to work this way (transferring all at once), try to go by a few at a time or even just one at a time and repeat the process until all hair of your item is successfully transferred. :)
@@LadyAska It worked perfectly!
I've tried reducing some of the bones, it seems to work much better with a 2021 version, just like the video (I had a 2022 one), and checking that the two options are unchecked when exporting the vrm initially in VroidStudio really makes a difference.
I'm so happy it worked, i've been waiting this for months, thank you so much!!
Hey Aska, sorry to bother but apparently all my versions are the right ones, but when it is time to drag and drop the bones right under the hip I get an error message that says the following:
"Children of a Prefab instance cannot be deleted or moved, and components cannot be reordered.
You can open the Prefab in Prefab Mode to restructure the Prefab Asset itself, or unpack the Prefab instance to remove its Prefab connection" .
I wonder if I missed something? Normally I exported my model's meshes right and it's a vrm0. I'm unsure what I did wrong 'but my only guess is that I did a mistake)
Hello! That is easy to solve! You just aren't in prefab mode yet!
Just find your Avatars name on the left hirarchy and there is a little arrow on the right to the name...if you press on that, you switch to prefeb mode. Then drag your bones again, like you tried it before. this time it should work ^-^b
@@LadyAska OMG thank you you're a savior, I will try to use the same boneweight transfer to put a broche made out of hair on his chest anchor I think it could work right? :d Thank you for giving us guides for these super helpful assets
@@justafish9618 It will absolutely work!
You just have to put at least one bone into the asset and then move it under the section it should be linked to. (If its on the "Upper chest" for example, you would put it there :) )
@@LadyAska Oh god I don't think I put any bone there since I didn't want it to move...
@@LadyAska I'll change the source form head to upper chest and se if it will at least stop it from moving all over the place following the model's head movements, it might do nothing but it's worth a try :d
Update: it worked!
the bone transfer is there but somehow i cant find it it isnt in window not now
Maybe you got the old version?
Then it is under Tools :)
If not, please verify, if you really got both Unity and Univrm versions correct, as mentioned in the description
Can you you do the same thing but in blender ?
For a Vroid model or a Blender model?
@@LadyAska for Vroid Model after importing it to blender
Hello, I have a little problem, when I click on "transfer bone weights" after selecting the hairs, it should appear in the folder groups of the "user_Vroid_customltem..." model, but mine does not appear.
could you tell me if i did something wrong?
Oh, I think I understand!
So for it to appear as a vroid_customitem, your item or tail has to have at least one bone.
Otherwise it can't appear.
So you would go back into Vroid and add at least 1 bone to the thing you worked on.
(if its a tail, add more, if it's a chain, add more, to help with a nice movement later)
The thing with bones is, that these will have to be set up beforehand in Vroid and you would need to test the "flowiness" beforehand already, to be sure, it's the way you want it to be.
(even though in Vroid, it may clip like crazy)
Once you are happy with that, you go into Unity and do the whole bone weight transfer and moving the Vroid_customitem. (which represents the bones, you added before)
I hope that helps and didn't confuse further :)
@@LadyAska It seems to depend on the "age" of the model too. My bones were named J_sec_Hair1/2/3_(Hair ID 06 in my case) for the bones IE my eighth bone would be J_sec_Hair8_06 and First would be J_sec_Hair1_06. I Started my model in Vroid 1.22.0

I offer to attach tails for free, if you really can’t get it to work on your own.
(I am ladyaska over there)
I been having some issues why My vroid studio isn't launching and opening and it's been Bugging me all day So I came and ask If there's a Way to fix it.
What happened between the last success launch/use of Vroid and the one you are having problem with?
Did you install a lot of new software, some new games maybe?
My first guess would be, that you simply ran out of space on your SSD or Harddrive and/or your RAM is used elsewhere.
Give a look at how much free space you still have, open up your task manager while trying to launch VROID and see if its taking up a lot of processing power, as well as space on your drive/drives and maybe clean up/uninstall some software that you don't need anymore.
You can also run programs like CCleaner to get more free space.
That's just my first guess, without any further context :)
Hope you're doing well, Lady Aska!
Hello! I do! Life got a bit busy atm and I am learning Blender (which sadly takes a lot more time then I thought), so I can create more cool content for you guys after.
Hopefully from a new place soon as well (I am likely to move in the next 6month, if everything works out) so that is ahead as well and will mean more regular content again, since my recording time will not be interrupted by other factors anymore. 🙂👍
All these different softwares are overwhelming me. I am new to all this so it's just daunting.
I know, I felt the same in the beginning.
It gets better the more time you spend with each one and just take it slow.
After you get the hang of it a little bit, it gets so much easier and the insecurity goes away. You got this! :)
Hi there! What if the model doesnt have a tail and its just a bow with no bones? It still says its attached to the head when I want it attached to the hips.
Yes! Because the bone weight transfer transfers only the information of the weights, not the actual bone.
So in your case, no bone, which means you can’t do the second step of actually attaching the bones to the hip or back, or wherever else you want it to be.
The only workaround that I found for this, is to put a single bone into the object in Vroid and make sure that it’s as stiff as possible (so no wiggling effects)…you can check that in the photobooth under animation.
If you bow does wiggle around, it’s not stiff enough.
Then in Unity you apply the bone weight transfer and then move this one bone manually in the hierarchy to the hip.
What do u think of Warudo? I think it's Hanatool + Unity combined. And you can export environments like free environments from unity to Warudo. Changes are are happening.
warudo looks amazing so far.
I am planning a whole series about it, once I moved and settled into the new place 🙂
Hey, I did everything that was said and shown in the video, but when I put it into VSeeFace, the very tip of the tail still moves with the head, but the rest moves with the hips. Do you have a fix for this? Any additional help would be massively appreciated!
Hello!
This usually means that you probably forgot one bone during the moving process (from manually moving it from head to hip) or that (if your tail has multiple parts), the bone weight transfer wasn't applied to all strands.
If you can't figure bit out, feel free to message me on Discord and I can give a look, if you like :)
@@LadyAska The tail is made of 1 Hair Strand, I got everything, I transferred it, but the tip of the tail is still attached to the head and still moves with head.
I'm still having some problems. the bone weight transfer tool is not showing up on the window tab at all
It's so weird, I had like 3 people in the last 2 days reach out to me, because they can't find the bone weight transfer plugin or their model isn't loading.
Which Unity and Univrm version are you using? The one I recommend in the video/description?
(In case you still have trouble, feel free to reach out to me on Discord. I am ladyaska there :)...I can help a bit better over there, if the version stuff doesn't do it for you)
@@LadyAska I'm using VRM1.0 v0.113.0 and Unity 2021.3.21f1
This is super helpful, but I'm stuck at the part where I import the .vrm into unity. Instead of showing all of those expanded files, it was just a single one that I can't do anything with. Is there any way to fix that? Everything else seems fine.
Hello! Yes, its a common problem currently, but we found the solution!
First, make sure it`s 2021.2.17f1 (the video may state different, but I really couldn`t forsee this one)
Then univrm plugin version 0.110.0 for VRM0!! (the last part is the important part, because there are 2 versions of this plugin now.
If you use the vrm0 version, make sure you also exported your avatar as vrm0!!
If you follow all of that, it should work exactly as shown here in the video :)
good new for the v-roid studio new accessories 1.27.0 tail
Absolutely! Finally no tail attaching in Unity anymore! (and the tails look cute too :3 )
ty for the video but the bone transfer isnt working for me can u please tell me if there isa diffrent version?
There is an older version, but the only difference is, that the interface looks different and the tool itself is found under "Tools".
But if it "isn't working" the reason usually a different one.
Before giving up on it completely, double check the following:
1.Are the Unity/univrm versions the exact one, mentioned in the description of this video?
(if not, I highly recommend you download the correct versions and try again...the difference this makes is incredible)
2. Did you also follow through with the second step, moving the bones manually from head to hip (or your preferred destination)?
The bones in my video are called "customitem", but yours could be called "hair01_01" for example.
This step is the vital step to really attach whatever you want to attach.
If you get an error instead, I highly recommend to contact me on Discord (ladyaska), so we take a look at it.
But make sure, that you tried the correct versions first.
In very, very rare occasions, the problem has to do with the settings and directions of the bones from Vroid, which then has to be checked and fixed.
@@LadyAska okay Ty so much I'll try few more times
I tried this and it didn't work for me, I used the most current version of unity and the most current version of univrm. I even tried the versions of unity and univrm stated in the discription and that didn't work either. I have no idea what I am doing worn. T-T
Did you also manually move the bones after?
This is the most crucial part, as explained in the video.
If you need more help, feel free to reach out to me on Discord (ladyaska) and I am sure we'll get it to work :)
I also always tell you guys the versions I used, so you should be able to recreate the exact environment. (sadly due to the very frequent updates to Unity and univrm, the other plugins can hardly catch up...thats why this is so important)
any idea how to do that in unreal?
after transfer bone weights, i cant find user_vroid_customitem and in root its only appire the hips, and not the head
i dont know how to add it :C the tail has bones
Make sure you are looking at it from the prefab perspective.
(on your left hierarchy, when you drag your model there for the first time, there is this little arrow besides their name...not the one to open up the root and all, but on the other side. That opens up the prefab view)
It can be, that your bone has a different name, usually something with hair1_01(the numbers change obviously).
Mine pop up sometimes somewhere in between and there is really no system to it :/
If you need more specific help, feel free to message me over Discord directly and I can check some screenshots of your problem, until we (hopefully) find a solution :)

do you think you could make a vroid tutorial on how to make tranparent hair, for example something like a veil for blender or unity?
I could look into it. I am not sure if it will be 100% possible with Vroid, as the MToon shader has its limitations, but since we have see through glasses, maybe there is something to be done.
Thank you for the sugggestions! :)
a veil could be made semi-transparent with a dithered texture. Someone made a black fine mesh top on Booth that's literally every other pixel is black/alpha alternating. Looks great.
I know this is unrelated but do you know how to attach an image to a vroid model in unity, like maybe for a logo on clothing for example
You can do that in Vroid itself.
I think in an older video about 5 useful tips, I displayed how to do that.
(you would just edit the texture, to include your logo on your shirt, or as a tattoo on your arm etc ) :)
@@LadyAska Would you know how to do it in unity because I’m trying to attach a image to a accessory that’s already attached to my model,
@@jayosonic yes, in this case, take the texture from the accessory (it's in the texture folder, after you import your model) and right click onn it.
Select "show in explorer" and open up the file shown in an editing software of your choice (Photoshop, Gimp or whichever you are using to edit textures usually)
Add your logo and then save everything. This should automatically update the texture in Unity as well.
Now if your accessory is a third party item, it can be that you have to work with a texture atlas (all textures of the item cramped in one place).
This would make in nearly impossible to add something to it.
In any case I would save the original texture somehere first and then edit a copy first to test it out.
Fir this you would have to create a new material in Unity (don't forget to change the shader to MToon if you are exporting as.vrm) and attach your copy material to it.
(importing your own texture for anything, is as easy as dragging and dropping the texture file into the texture folder...from then on, you can use it on a new material.
Then you would drag that new material to your accessory to use it (and check if the logo is in the right place), if it isn't, change back to the original material :)
thx for update vid 👍👍👍
When I drop the vrm file, it doesn't have the image to drag on the left side so the model doesn't appear. What should I do ?
Yeah something is up atm.
I had another user report the same thing yesterday.
If you don't mind, feel free to send me your model over Discord and I'll try to attach whatever you need.

as someone with a bunny tail avatar...I was curious what would happen if tis ver thin/short tails editions..eitherway great help..but will experiment and try if its works..
wait question so-Unity editor..or the app to download via that..its Visual Studio of Unity right? or did I use the app wrong?
All of this is only relevant, if you created your tail in Vroid, with hair (size doesn't matter here) :)
Without the bone weight transfer and the manual moving of the bones, your tail would just float around you, whenever your avatar moves their head.
But usually you want the tail to be firmly attached to your hip/back.
All I used in this video, is the mentioned version of Unity and 2 plugins, that you have to download separately.
The univrm plugin, to import your avatar into Unity in the first place, and the bone weight transfer plugin, to transfer weight information of the bones from head to hip.
If you are using anything else, you would have to explain to me a bit more detailed, what you are trying to do and which tools you used, as I can only refer to this video and won't know what other things you tried and why my solution here, may not have worked for you, for example :)

Thank you. Any other softwear can help me to make Vroid more easy in change the clothes ? thank you
If you say "changing clothes", do you mean creating new cloths for Vroid models or changing the clothes, once the model was already exported?
I heard there is something like a "wardrobe" app on booth, would have to find the link for it...can't really say if its "easier" though...Vroid does it all in one spot and setting the cothes up to be traded later in Unity isn't too hard as well, once you got the hang of it.
I don't know if we have something yet, that makes cloth switche easier...maybe give VNyan a look...I didn't have time to test it yet properly, but I heard you can do some really cool things with it. :)
OK, thank you :-)
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial! Is there a way to move the hair in Unity? I'm a noob, I tryed to add some details to the legs of my Vroid model using the hair tool, but when I export the model, the pose change to T-pose, and everything I did looks wrong haha Is there a fix for that, or maybe I should start to learn how to use blender? Thanks in advance!
Hello! Sorry for the late reply (timezones and all 😅)
I would recommend learning how to use Blender. I will start with that as well, beginning next week, because Vroid is just so very limiting and the hair method is not always a good workaround.
I am sure you got this! :)
I keep getting an error CS0246 with the boneweight package, I've tried reinstalling and everything but it keeps happening
Welp I figured it out, I had the "VRM 1.0 Import/Export" instead of the "VRM 0.x Import/Export"
Would this work in unity version 2021.3.29f1?
You can try it, but if you get a problem with this setup, I always recommend our tested combination of Unity version and univrm version. :)
Just give it a go and feel free to report back for others!
i'm already lost oh god
Which part are you struggling with specifically? :)
@@LadyAska it doesnt show the same bone weight transfer as yours, mine didnt have the + and - buttons
will this process look good with necklaces too?
To be honest I tried a few necklaces and scarfs and the likes and it usually doesn't look good.
The reason is, that you need to put at least one bone into the item you are attaching this way...which means your necklace will wiggle around like crazy.
Maybe you just have to find the right setup though.
An idea would be to not put any bones around the back of the neck directly, but just around the front area.
(but for that you would need the necklace to really be made out of pieces of hair and not an Image of said necklace)
If you can find a free 3D asset of said necklace, I would probably recommend that, instead of doing it with hair. 😅
