Vroid .vrm to .fbx Blender - 2022 (actually works!)
Hello! I have a question. Is there a way to make the ears fold back when I have my eyebrows furrowed for an example? Would be pretty sweet!
@Pepperandsaltajwompwompwoomp If the bones are there to animate this kind of movement, yes! You can link these animations with whatever Blendshape you want. Ear wiggle while blinking, yep! For automatically triggered ones, like blinking or the vowels or even other eyebrow movements, you first have to be able to track these. So for example, if your tracking isn’t picking up any eyebrow movements, then just creating an eyebrow Blendshape with said motion, won’t trigger the eyebrows (and in extension the ears) automatically. Just as a heads up :)
@@LadyAska Sweet, thank you kindly!
@@LadyAska I have it fully animated and created a blendshape, however It doesn't appear to have a blendshape slider like the eyes closing for an example. Is there a fix to this?
@Pepperandsaltajwompwompwoomp I don’t have Unity open right now, but if you click on your newly created Blendshape, one of the tabs should show all sliders that are available to you (I say that, because if you use HanaTool for example, it adds more sliders that can be customized) So either that slider wasn’t available to begin with (the I recommend adding HanaTool, just for the additional sliders) or it’s an actual bug. If you would like that I give a closer look, feel free to contact me over Discord (ladyaska), with a screenshot of a Blendshape that has said sliders and then your new one, where they are missing :)
@ This just hit me. Do you have to create manual Blendshapeclips for things like the ears? 😅
the animations are not being applyed to the export
@@Gamearoo What kind of error are you getting? (remember you have to bind the animation to a trigger/Blendshape first, before exporting)
@@LadyAska its not a error more when i activate using the keybind it ether does nothing ore barely moves and doesnt go back and forth If you have discord that may make it easier if you need screenshots or need a screenshare
@@LadyAska actully i got the animation tho its not looping like it should to show a constent tail motion it just stops at the last point in the animation
@@Gamearoo I just had someone on my Discord confirm (and that’s more for people that read this later), that the tail physics of the premade tails in Vroid aren’t ideal for animation (honestly not sure if that came with a recent update or not). She recommended to redo the physics in Blender and then animate them in Unity. Though I made this tutorial specifically for people who didn’t want to touch Blender and so I would understand if people would shy away from this option. I’ll add it to the needed tutorials list
@ yea I was helped there and it was a easy fix for me in unity itself with some adjustments
Could you create a tutorial on how to make a dance animation redeemable by the viewer, so that it triggers an animation on the Vroid model during the stream while keeping the face tracking active throughout the process? :3
@@nurysenpaivtuber8843 I could look into it, thank you for the suggestion!
So I made a pair of dragon wings and a tail for my character in blender, could I do the same thing with those? Because as of right now I’m treating every outfit as a separate model and manually connecting the bones to the armature for every single one
@@amberluppens3292 I think if you made the wings and tail yourself, the bone weights have to be placed into these in Blender, then all you need to do is put them(link them) under the group they should belong to in Unity. So you would import your tail into Unity and after unpacking the prefab, you would move it under the “hip” of your avatar for example to permanently attach it. The wings would likely go to left and right chest or shoulders and so on. (The same would go, if you made any other type of accessory) Now how they would move, would be completely up to you and how you set it up beforehand in Blender. 🙂
@@LadyAska thanks for answering! I’m extremely new to all of this, I literally learned how to use blender just to make those wings and probably did a bunch of stuff wrong, so let’s see what happens when I connect them in unity, wish me luck!
i have a problem. if i want to have both front hair and horn. i shall use both of them in a same mesh and now i cant change the color of horn
@@Blooduuu That should be an easy fix. I assume you set the color of the hair beforehand (please explain what you did exactly, if I get it wrong) Now to change the color of the horns, you just have to edit the hairstyle and select the hair group for your horns. Then you create a new hair texture (a little plus sign to the right) and if you have one already, you can edit the hair texture and import the one you want to use for the horns. If its all in one hair group, just select the individual hair strands of your horns instead and then use the horn hair texture on them directly.
Important detail to note: After the significant changes of the Python BPY Library's API, this script will not work because of indexing errors, attribute names and such. So you must use an older version of Blender.
@february.bluefield Thank you for the heads-up!
thank you so much!
@@DrachenIvy You are welcome!☺️
whats the dimesion the image you have used for import in vroid studio ? I doing print the eyes area and remove the backgroud. But not matched in square format.
I literally just exported a standard hair texure template right from vroid, removed everything and then drew the eyes on that. As shown in the video. :) Then you just import that back and adjust the position acordingly. (I cheated a bit and used a template I had already, for my anime eyes, so I could position the eyes over this, to have a rought idea where everything had to go)
Where the material texture of hair?
So if you are using my expression pack, you first import these onto your Vroid model in Vroid. Otherwise I assume you are making your own. Once you export from Vroid, make sure that you disable the “combine hair mesh” option, otherwise all hair textures get merged into one. Once in Unity, you follow the tutorial to import your model and the materials are under your characters folder in the bottom left hierarchy. (There are also the folders for Blendshapes, Textures, Materials etc.) In case you have problems locating it.
for anyone wondering NO you DONT need to keep unity running to use this... you can build to exe and run that and it only takes up 5-10% cpu (at least on my dinosaur of a pc...prob much less on all yours)
@@ImJamieX Thanks for the heads up! 🙂

one question, it works for vrchat?.
@@erickmatthewcamposgonzalez3171 No, that is sadly impossible. You can use VRchat only with an actual VRheadset out just with keyboard and mouse. This won’t give you any kind of tracking.
ok so I have a problem. I use VSF file format. That requires unity 2019. How am I supposed to do this if I need 2 completely different versions of unity?? I am so lost
@@Gemini_Prince That's not a problem. You can use HanaTool in the 2019 version as well. But in the case of you having to switch to a certain version for something, you can do the following: Add everything you need and that can still be added to a .vrm first, in whatever version of Unity that's needed. Then import this .vrm, that you exported from the process into the Unity version for VSF. All other progress is still saved in the vrm (like HanaTool or some accessories you added or whatever it may be, as long as it's not an Animation or a different type of shader) I hope that helps! :)
Can i use this software to make animations with vroid models or not?
From my own tests, sadly not
A very high-quality and easy-to-understand video tutorial. It’s the most effective one I’ve watched among the Unity Motion Capture-related videos👍
how to put the horns wit the hair
@@kaikosora2949 You have to either create them on your hair directly that you have already (just as a new “layer”) or be lucky enough, that your hair was done in a way that allows for the use of the “combinable” categories (like the ahoge or the extra hair). But for example this won’t work if your hair is in the “overall “ hair category. Then whenever you try to use any other category, the hair just disappears. So in that case, just create your set of horns right together with the hair directly.
I tried to run it, and my PC said, "running this application might put your PC at risk." What do I do? I don't want to accidentally make my PC crash or get it hacked.
@@Moonshine_notalcohol This is a completely normal warning message, as this is basically software from an indie developer and not a big company.
It doesn't appear for me to import the animations but I already installed the vsf package, why could that be?
You just drag and drop them into the bottom assets. Or do you get an error, while doing so?
Very helpful Video! I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all of your tutorials. I love how my model turned out so good, from that crappy VRoid model to this incredible looking model. BUT i switched from VSeeFace to VNyan :D And i also have a question: Can u have two different Tail animations?
@@JaylahWasTaken I am glad to hear that you are so happy with your model! And yes, you can have as many animations as you want, as long as you create Blendshapes for them for triggers :) I also discovered VNyan and it’s such a powerful software. Suvi did such a good job ☺️
@@LadyAska Thanks for your fast answer c: And yes, Suvi is an awesome person! c:
Hello how do you manage to use VRM shaders? when I import a model it always comes as UniGLFT/UniUnilit and cnat use Realtoonshader on them
@@CarlitoxBanana Depends on the model. For example a Vroid vrm model will always come with the MToon shader. I wasn't actually aware that vrm supports other formats too. Regardless of that though, vrm itself doesn't support RealToon as a shader. I have do export it over the SDK plugin, as a completely different format, to get the RealToon shader on there. Just from what you wrote, I can only imagine, that you got the model somewhere online and that the model already came with different shaders. If you need more help and are willing to let me have a look at the model, I could maybe find a workaround for you. You can contact me over Discord under 'ladyaska'. :)

I tested it over Discord and on the preview it is indeed mirrored … also in my case it was mirrored not only in the preview, but also for everyone else watching. @@GamingMaster4386J7C For animations you NEED the 2019.4.31f1 version... it's not optional, as in other cases. The reason is, that the sdk plugin wasn't updated further so far, so we are stuck with the current compatibility. 😅

I wish that I would be able to put my avatar back into Vroid...i have a custom face jewlry that isn't able to work with Vroid....
@@Zetsuboiki Yeah, I discussed this with some people on Reddit the other day and the problem in general is, that there are too many factors, that would make reimporting a Vroid model from .vrm to .vroid, nearly impossible. The models are way too customizable and you would loose that completely, after reimporting, due to format changes. (IF that actually would be possible) We can only hope that their work on an import feature upfront for accessories or even clothing (like actual custom clothes from another program) Until then it’s either starting from scratch or reusing what you have in Vroid, plus all the work after again, to attach custom jewelry with Unity (and/or Blender)
there's a skin mask on one of these dresses that doesnt seem to be editable is that normal?
@@mizhammerfist That is usually not normal. I would try to restart Vroid and try again. Sometimes this bugs out a bit. (I had the weirdest things happen already) If a restart doesn’t fix it, feel free to tell me which dress/shape you have trouble with, so I can can cross check in my version :)
What were those about "Test boy nude"? Kinda sus...
@@FireBladeVR0 I am just very straightforward with naming files and we tested this method for weeks. In the beginning the textures would be completely messed up, so we tested with just a model with skin (happened to be a male model). Poor dude looked in the beginning like he was turned inside out, because for some weird reason, the program in the beginning was very adamant to apply the tongue and face texture to the body... because that were usually the first in the exported list. Thanks to his brave sacrifices, we managed in the end to figure it out and he finally got some clothes later into testing. :)

I want to give a little heads-up here, for anyone trying the solution with hair made tails: You still have to attach your tail first in Unity! So the whole thing with the bone weight transfer plugin and moving the tail-bones manually to the hip, has to be done FIRST, before you start animating! Also the way your bones are set up with the tail and the way the flow and weight was configured in Vroid, will influence how the tail moves. (you can see in my example, that it looks quite weird, because I didn't make the tail specifically to be animated) All that to say: The new tail feature is quite awesome for animation! It gives you everything ready-to go! And the result looks quite charming (especially if you are better at animating than I am xD)
Hi! You're one of the few youtubers that actually reply to each comment, so I'm going to try my luck... qwq I've made several accessories with the hair tool in Vroid studios, and the head ones are fine, I've added bones and everything. The issue comes in with the belt accessory I made. I need to change the root to the waist and if I understand correctly, that has to be done in unity. The only time the univrm actually worked and appeared in the upper tab area was with the newest versions of both unity and univrm, and the others I tried after didn't work. And then, I can't use the newest versions because they aren't compatible with vseeface and I am going insane. Please let me know if you have any fixes or step by step guides on this! Thank you :)
@@thecat4415 Exactly, you need to change the hair bone (of the belt) to the hip in Unity. For that you’ll need another plug-in as well, called the bone transfer plugin. If you look at one of my recent tail videos, I should have a set of versions there, that you can use. (They should be the exact ones listed otherwise you will have compatibility issues). Also make sure, that you exported correctly (as vrm0 and “delete transparent meshes” and “combine hair mesh” turned off) If you follow the tutorial, you should be able to attach your belt as needed. In case it doesn’t work at all, feel free to to message me me directly on Discord (ladyaska), so I can assist you further ☺️
@@LadyAska Hi again, thank you so much for the reply!! I've tried, and redownloaded using the versions in that video, but it comes up with this error for bone weight transfer tool: "The type or namespace name 'VRM' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)" Also, will this version of unity allow the model to be used in vseeface? Thank you so much for the help, I'm sorry but I don't have discord! :( EDIT: I also did them in order, the univrm first then the bone transfer tool, but it still didn't work even in a new project
@@LadyAska Update: It worked! I used your animated ear tutorial for the downloads and I got it in unity and everything worked perfect :D Thank you!! It's not exporting to VSeeFace though, do I need the SDK plugin for that? Won't a vrm itself work fine?
@@thecat4415 Its a bit strange, but try exporting it over the sdk option, just to see if that gives you at least a working model for now :) It should work over the VRM0 option though, as usual. With that you should be able to open it in VSeeFace. (honestly I never had a vrm that didn't open in VSeeFace...it may have not been working correctly, but it would open regardless) So I guess your problem may still be another one, after all. In case its still acting weird, really feel free to message me on Discord, because I don't always see messages here (RUclips only tells me about the first resonse, but I have to check for further responses manually ^^')
@@LadyAska Hi!! I took _quite_ a long break and I tried it after redownloading the addons and it worked! Thank you so much!! I have one final question (hopefully!) -- How would I attach to the waist? (like the smallest part of the stomach area) thank you so much for the help 🌸
wow, thank you for your guide.
@@thuylinh8910 I am glad it was helpful! :)
coincidentally, the last comment before you is from 3 months ago, and I was also looking for something about this right now. I hope it goes well. (using it for VRChat)
Good Video!
I'm extremely confused, how did you get the hair object to show all the layers like that? I did exactly what you did (re: clicking on the asset I'm trying to unhook from head tracking,) and it showed everything as one unit, no individual hairs, and the hair layer wouldn't expand
@@BagelGremlin During export from Vroid you disable the “combine hair mesh” option. That should solve it :)
I figured out a way to swap between animated texters and still ones First when you're making the textures make it twice as big as the original so for instance if you wanted to swap between animated eyes and non-animated ones instead of having the eyes 1024 x 512 have it 2048 x 1024 then go to any video editing software And place whatever animation you wish on the texture and keep the other one untouched after that follow the rest of the tutorial and when you make the new material changed shader to vrm/mtoon and then go to uv coordinates and put tilting as .5 for x and y and offset is how you will change between the textures by variables of 0 and .5 Hope this helps someone if needed I can try to answer questions
ive rewatched this vid so many times. Tryin to get my tail to move and it doesnt work. Figured maybe it only works on the ears. Still no. Now tryin to figure out what went wrong. Downloaded the right files and did all the steps. Exported to vseeface and then it doesnt move.
@@CosmicTheShiba If you still can't figure it out, feel free to message me on Discord. (ladyaska) I am sure we can get it to work. I will be working on the tail animation video today, so maybe we both can learn something there :)
@@CosmicTheShiba Ok, update: I ran into the same problem, apparently the tails need a special type of prep before this can work. Will work on it during the next days and the new video will reflect that then. :)
@@LadyAska lookin forward to it :)
this is a very good tutorial :3 one problem though, I'm a mobile user :(
As a mobile user, what kind of topics would you be interested in? :) Maybe I can find a few cool workarounds for mobile too, so you guys can upgrade your Vroids as well!
