I just watched Man On Wire. Wow is all I can think. One quote of his really moved me - “If I die, what a beautiful death. To die in the exercise of your passion.”
+ScaryManiac I don't think I can. I've always had trouble with movie maker's depictions of individuals and their stories. They're always changed around and over dramatized.
+popvinnik I know perfectly what you mean, but I saw both and Philippe was directly involved in the new movie. Whoever saw Man On Wire will agree with me that The Walk respected everything what the documentary had showned us before. You can trust me on that. Also, the movie brings us the feeling on what it was like beeing on the wire itself.
+ScaryManiac That is one hundred percent accurate. That was the most exhilarating 20 minutes I have ever watched in a movie. I was on the edge of seat from the first to the last step. When he finally stepped off the wire I exhaled a breath of relief.
I literally spoke with him last week. He used the wire rope my company manufactures to cross the Twin Towers, the Cathedral, and other hire wire walks. He is a very humble man who cares about the theatre industry.
This man is my absolute hero. I cannot imagine that I could ever in a million years walk a tightrope between the two towers (or their equivalent given that they are no more.) Play a piano concerto? Well, if I practiced enough, long enough, hard enough, then yes, I believe I could indeed learn to play a piano concerto. If Philippe Petit were my teacher, I believe he could get me to walk on a high wire but high enough for the fall to kill me, never! I admire him so much. As for the film "The Walk", see it on as large a screen as possible in 3D. It is the greatest 3D film ever made bar none and it really gives one the sense that one is up there walking between the two towers. That is how I know I could never do such a thing. My hands were clammy and I felt very uneasy just watching it and my heart was in my throat even though I KNEW he was not going to fall. A God among men. We are being visited by ETs and they must be very technically advanced but on behalf of the human race, I would point to Philippe Petit walking between the two towers and say: "Let's see you do that, ETs!" I doubt even they could match such a feat.
He put so much effort into his TED presentation. The fire in the beginning and the way in which he presented the handwritten slides. This guy is a true artist! It is interesting how someone who seems to love life so passionately is also the one who is able to risk it at 400 m off the ground without a safety net.
I thought this was going to be a boring and uninspiring talk at first - just some guy who did something and gives a checklist of what he did. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised with entertainment and some words of wisdom. "When we inspire ourselves, we inspire others." Great story.
The poetic way he illustrates the walk is so beautiful. I still can't wrap my head around accomplishing a feat like that, so inspiring. Also, bro has crazy sauce with the juggling ha tons of flavor.
Something beautiful ❤ I met this man in the beautiful writing of Colum McCann in his book Let the World Spin. I will be eternally grateful for having been introduced to Philip Petit. Thank you TED for asking him to introduce himself to us all.
If I was the FOH audio engineer of TEDTalks, I would have cut Philippe's audio during his juggling performance, or at least (band-pass) gated the signal to only allow his voice to be heard instead of his breathing. Most of the time it takes the engineer to be an artist to work with an artist.
This is the only Man or human being that has ever performed this High wire Act of the two towers. We will never see this ever again. Phillip has the Biggest B@lls in the World for walking that Wire between the Towers. Hes the Man of the Wire. Bravo Phillip your the MAN. 💪👍
Many have climbed Everest, some stood on the moon, but this beats them hands down ,no doubt...this is beyond them by some distance....space walks pale into insignificance, biggest balls of any man .
The amount of money we have only dictates how competent we are at making money. Most of the great intellectual and creative minds of the past century were not very proficient in the art of money-making.
Impresionante este hombre! Maravilloso legado que deja a este mundo... NADA ES IMPOSIBLE “ 🙏♥️ EXTRAORDINARIO ♥️ .......♥️ ♥️ “THE WALK” ♥️ Inspiradora Película” que nos invita a replantear nuestra vida.
Great talk, very entertaining. Also definitively he put a lot of effort into learning some of these 3-ball tricks. But i am still waiting for the day when TED will invite a real juggler. Juggling has been a part of some TEDtalks, but never REAL juggling, i mean, anything a juggler would recognize as really difficult. If you want to see real juggling, ill pick just 2 random ones where i know they are on youtube, just search for " Toby Walker 2006 profile" or "Mills mess in Tokyo".
one of the most inspiring humans ever....
Most underrated TED talk!
This man deserves more views!. A salute to his confidence n perseverance n hard work n creativity!. He is the man!

+popvinnik and now you have to watch The Walk :)

The Wire was done with Philippe teaching Joseph Gordon Levit how to walk a wire. The entire movie was guided by Petit.
he seems like the best guy to have a cup of coffee with and just listen to. to hear his stories and the way he describes things.
I literally spoke with him last week. He used the wire rope my company manufactures to cross the Twin Towers, the Cathedral, and other hire wire walks. He is a very humble man who cares about the theatre industry.

People who are calling him arrogant must have a lot of personal insecurities. Lol. This man is confident in himself! Not arrogant.

Great story.
He gives the impression that he's incapable of error. Amazing human being.
Ich habe den Herr Petit sehr häufig im Washington Square Park zugeschaut. Prima!
The film The Walk is beautiful... Phillipe Petit, you are a courageous man.. Keep walking!!..
That dove story had me crying with laughter seriously my favourite ted talk yet!
he is a great storyteller...he has inspired me and now i believe that anyone can move mountains
I love listening to this man and the way he tells his story.
His inspiration has brought tears to my eyes
this guy's a better speaker than most people who speak english as a first language.
Everyone should watch his documentary "Man on Wire". Might be the best doc I've ever seen. This man has incredible tenacity.
Good for him to be able to pursue his dreams. Must have had great contacts to be able to perform at such an early age in front of the worlds best
The poetic way he illustrates the walk is so beautiful. I still can't wrap my head around accomplishing a feat like that, so inspiring. Also, bro has crazy sauce with the juggling ha tons of flavor.
He's one hell of a storyteller.
What a human being, inspiring brilliant, incredible, brave, wise. Magic.
"people ask me why i would want to risk death/my life, why do such a thing?" Answer:"To Live".
Haven't even seen "Man on Wire," yet; but already know this guy is very, very SMART.
Something beautiful ❤
I met this man in the beautiful writing of Colum McCann in his book Let the World Spin. I will be eternally grateful for having been introduced to Philip Petit. Thank you TED for asking him to introduce himself to us all.
Truly one of the best TED talks I've ever seen.
Makes the Towers coming down even more tragic. He did that, and now they are gone. Just gone.
Undiluted artistry, courage and genius. Long may you dream, long may you dare.
OMG THIS IS THE GUY FROM THE MOVIE: MAN ON WIRE !!!!!
Absolutely much watch. One of the greatest films I've seen. Even the critics love it.
2021... já conhecia o artista... já conhecia o TED... mas essa junção fez algo novo de novo... Parabéns!!!!
Wow!!! They captured his charisma and inspirational motivation perfectly in The Walk!
This is the best Ted Talk ever!
He is very passionate, smart and inspiring 💗
My god! I lost the word "impossible" in my dictionary..and I'm glad.
This guy was born to perform...
I'm never going to get through this talk because I can't stop re-watching the card trick. 😄
@ 3:42, the stunned audience does not applause..
This man is literally FEARLESS.
If I was the FOH audio engineer of TEDTalks, I would have cut Philippe's audio during his juggling performance, or at least (band-pass) gated the signal to only allow his voice to be heard instead of his breathing.
Most of the time it takes the engineer to be an artist to work with an artist.
People calling him arrogant, condescending, etc... What is that all about? It's called believing in yourself.
Its a yes from me
Passion...it make everything happened!
Learning to juggle will free ones mind.
A great great speaker and story teller

the master himself!
Espetacular!!! Inspirador!!! "Montanhas podem mover"...
What a hell of a great story teller.

If you liked this, see the movie "Man on a Wire" the preparation for the walk between the twin towers.....unbelievable is an understatement!
Seriously? Why would anyone dislike this?

This was so cool.
That air board is cool... and nice talk. =)
Great talk, very entertaining. Also definitively he put a lot of effort into learning some of these 3-ball tricks.
