I don't usually spontaneously erupt in tears but this did it for me. 😭😭 Why isn't everyone doing Nick Drake covers all the time? The songs are beautiful. This upcoming album is shaping up to prove that his songs can transcend both time and genre. ❤❤
People aren't doing Drake covers because of overblown reverence. Hopefully, that is changing.
They’re honoring him with their own interpretation of his songs. I think this is a beautiful tribute and shows this song is great regardless of format/style.

This is honestly one of the most beautiful covers of anyone by anyone that I have ever heard.
Oh my days. Hearing this for the first time stopped me in my tracks. For three and a bit minutes there was nothing but me, thoughts of the people I love and the song. Beautiful.
I discovered nick just 2years ago after my brother kept raving about him, I gave in and wow! Just discovered this version and it's just as beautiful as the original. A tear or two coming from my eyes as I drift aimlessly into another dimension. The Belfast poet Andrew Beattie ❤

@@motulifelikefigures1987 If I say that he would not like it, I can be very right. That is a fact. How often is an artist thrilled by the fact that you imitate him or his art? As good as never! But I may also be very wrong ... but ultimately, I form a judgment from my personal liking and understanding regarding this music and artist. If Nick would still be alive or would have lived longer, this terrible sampler with more or less unimaginative and musically mediocre "interpretations" would not have existed at all. These cover versions are music for the masses, and that's exactly what Nick Drake's music is not, even if Nick Drake might have wished it to be. It's a pity that in our world, no one is allowed to criticize and only those who like something are allowed to open their mouths. Courage to criticize!
@@tiefeXzeitlos well i know some of nick drake songs, didn't know this one. first heard this cover version which i love! it's just another version of a song which isn't offending at all. it's your opinion, sure. but don't make it others or nicks. as i said you don't know him, so u can't speak for him. thats the point of cover songs. they don't try to be the original, they honour it with a new interpretation, some badly and some better, thats individual for everyone. It has a modern touch now without loosing its magic. if you don't like it there is always the original. others prefer this version. it's just different taste in music. nothing more nothing less.
@@motulifelikefigures1987 If you say that’s just another version of a song, you misjudge originals. A cover version can destroy the intention of the original or make it appear in a new light. In my opinion, this cover version does not do justice to the original. Nick Drake made more than just pop songs. He wanted to say something very personal with it and therefore his art should be treated as such … carefully!
If this cover version arouses your interest in the originals, then that is of course the only positive point. Cheers!

@@tiefeXzeitlos again - only your opinion. drake was a musician with no success during his lifetime. that's all. you can put him on an art pedestal like critics do now, sure he was a great artist but so are many others. who is going to decide which artist is better than another? they can all co-exist. coversongs are just that: coversongs. the original always stays original. a mona lisa doesn't get worse in the louvre cause of copyprints around the world. If this cover version can reach a new generation and touch them equally as nick did with his version, what's wrong with that? Im happy this cover was made cause i love it more than the original. that also doesn't mean i value nicks songs less nor have i bad taste in music. This band puts effort and creativity behind this project to adapt a song and make something new out of it. so there is still a creative process made from humans behind it. something that will disappear with AI programs rasing from the ground everywhere and generate art, music and movies copied from a worldwide archive. Now that's something we all should be concerned about!! Cause thats cheap soulless imitation of art.

I too usually balk at that affected female voice that mimics every other elfin, tortured, shoe-gazing singer's delivery, a la Mazzy Star, but this song is too compelling for me to be put off by it. It works great.

@@timberframingbear I do covers of Nick's songs and try to be faithful to the original, but I appreciate when artists put their own heart into a song and make it their own without dishonouring the original writer. I think they do that here.

This completely misses the point of nick’s intimate and bare sound. This is overproduced and so devoid of breath. Nick drake is rolling in his grave.
- I got the Fruit Tree box set when it was released in the 80's but I very rarely play Nick now because it's just so damn sad, this I never need to hear again.
