I'm an S23 ultra user and very much enjoy using my phone every day. But I really do want the iPhone 15 pro Max to better the s23 ultra camera simply because having stiff competition will keep the manufacturers on their toes to try their best. Without competition, innovation would stall. So having a better camera on the 15 pro Max will ensure a better camera on the s24 ultra.
Samsung is really close with video quality with iPhone now. Both phones can provide top quality stuff but for me S23U is still the best in terms of versatility and options. I think the continuous zoom in S24U will make the difference next year!
@nielsjuuh23 That's Auto-FPS. Basically it lowers your FPS to 30 whenever you're in a low-lighted area. In order to stop it, open your camera, click the settings icon, and in the "video" category disable "Auto-FPS".
I own the 14 pro, and even though it’s “preferred” to have the natural colors the iPhone has in the end it’s all to personal preference…and as my personal preference goes without pixel peeping I saw myself choosing the Samsung photos much more often than the iPhones, if I were to edit the iPhone photos I would probably make them look like what Samsung had straight out of the camera
But apple sometimes has yellow tint. If you compare it with a dslr camera, it's very unnatural. And Samsung takes photos more naturally way, but sometimes adds a beauty effect and that's why it seems unnatural.
i've switched 13pro for S23 ultra and that phone is crazy...iam really looking forward to see iphone 15...they need to go really big this time, because Samsung created just created best smartphone ever..
A really important thing to consider is not just how phones are when they come out, but how they END UP after all the updates. Are companies improving user experience and adding features or just releasing "new" software where the only thing different is the version number?
Thank you for this nice comparison! I don't understand how the camera departement of Samsung can think that their oversharpened videos look good. It looks horrible, especially in 60fps. I hope they bring a feature in Camera Assistant where you can turn off Video Sharpening. That would be really great, to get rid of the oversharpening

I’ve been using iPhone 14 Pro for over 4 months now and I am someone who does mobile photography a lot (especially Portrait photography) and I am disappointed. The photos have this over-sharpened look to it and I have to reduce the texture every time in Lightroom. Secondly, the contrasty look that you talked about actually results in crushed shadows. Moreover, the photos just look dull in comparison to other phones. Only positive aspect of this phone’s camera is probably the video but that doesn’t really matter to me as I am someone who generally does not shoot videos.

Day/Night time Photos and Portrait: I'd give the Edge to S23 Ultra Video and Portrait Video: iPhone Zoom: S23 Ultra But seriously you can't go wrong with any of these two
I noticed something. For example at 6:25 while the angles of the shades look similar, there is a big difference between the buildings. I wonder why that is.
is it me or anyone else noticed that Danny avoided many mediocre iPhone photos in his discussion in the beginning, I clearly saw some average iPhone shots when he was showcasing the photos quickly...
Nah there are plenty of them! Not avoiding them at all. I don’t bash the photos I just point them out and give you my analysis. You are of course free to come to your own conclusion that’s why I give people so many photos. I still don’t think anyone includes as many photos as I do.
Respect to you and your opinion @sotej1, but as a very contented S23 Ultra owner I have to say that I find Danny to be one of the most thorough and unbiased reviewers out there. He doesn't flatter any device he reviews and just says it as he sees it. It is good though that you obviously feel passionate about your devices and comparisons, as a life without passion is only a half life in my humble opinion. 👍
Okay, difference is so small it really comes down to personal preference. Like, I doubt many of us will go in such a deep analysis with any of the pics in our gallery. (In constant wait for next years model and endless comparissons do we actually get to enjoy the devices?) What ruins the experience for me, on my S23 Ultra is shutter lag and motion blur as the result of it. I mean, I really couldn't care less about which phone has better details on windows on 1000% zoom, but blurry picture of anything that's moving (kid, pet...) should just be big NO in 2023. And it's the same problem Samsung devices have for years now. I can't really understand why they keep ignoring it as camera software always comes out as the weakest point of the whole device. All that ram, powerful processor, lenses and still - motion blur is as present as it was on S7 edge. Unfortunatelly, I really can't use device that doesn't even have split screen and that only connects well with devices from same company so - I chose S23 Ultra instead of Iphone. If one does only care about the camera - Iphone is still better choice. At least, results are predictable. And, let me get back to the first part of my comment - companies and their aggressive marketing made such a mess (and profit for them) that people even argue in comments which camera is better. Let's be honest - 99,99 percent of us would be totally fine even with cameras on 200-300 bucks devices these days. 😅
I have both phones. For photos of people using either the front or rear camera, the iPhone is better. The color is more realistic. Samsung overbrightens photos of the face because Koreans want to appear lighter, so they are catering to that audience. Also, Samsung’s camera oversharpens to the point that it doesn’t even look realistic. For photos of landscapes or nature, the Samsung is probably better. It’s saturation helps colors of flowers to pop for sure, as well as the sky.
someone tell me if am wrong but.. unless an iphone is released with buggy camera system, such laggy processing or the camera app crashing or something to do with the software, apple won't release updates.. meaning the processing u get out of an iphones camera will most likely remain the same .. whereas android manufacturers release updates regularly to enhance the image processing
That is totally wrong and unfair. Each iOS update in iOS 16 has received camera updates; in fact, there were two in October alone. Apple does not brag about them, it just updates with the usual pattern. Samsung-affiliated influencers will PR and promote upcoming camera fixes to market their fans into believing that Samsung is different.
I don't like Apple's ecosystem one bit, and the S23 Ultra's versatility with its cameras is second to none, so it's an easy win for Samsung to me. (and I can use GCAM for that natural processing if I'd find the photos too processed and/or oversharpened)
when s23 ultra shines he will say it's just a personal preference. lol. but when he prefers apple then he says so much good thing about it. lol. obviously he still so an iphone sheep. period
The main thing I noticed was the 3X zoom improvements. I suspect they are using their AI for the 5X zoom in the upcoming iPhone 15PM to improve it considerably in digital zoom.
Awesome video as always Danny! Do you use scene optimizer on the S23U in your comparisons? Just wondering because I also have a S23U and want the best photo quality!
cool video! i got to work in seoul for the summer of 95, really loved it there. the food was amazing! anyway, i just got an s23 ultra yesterday, watching tons of videos about settings, i'm curious since you don't mention it, you don't do anything special to the camera settings for preference? these are 'right out of the box' picture and video settings?
Yup straight out of the camera. The camera assistant is really great for the shutter and the sharpness reduction. Besides that I really like it straight out of the camera. The pro mode is super powerful as well
I think the S23 took the more ready out the box/mass appealing photos. Peeps aren't looking for a canvas they want that ready made served up. Both excellent shooters though.
Im glad youre talking about the reflections on iPhones ... its unacceptable they still have those for that price, yet most "reviewers" dont even mention them. I dont use my IP14 for that reason lot of times, since therres just light everywhere even if the overall video is better.
The iPhone apparently seems to have the better video quality while the Samsung has the photo quality (even though just by a bit, cause in some cases it depends and the photos end up looking better in the iPhone but generally the Samsung wins (not against the 15 Pro Max tho))
I don't understand very well? If you look at 4min16sec; yes, it's true, the ground is clearer with the iPhone but when I take a picture there it's not for the ground but for the person standing there and if you look closely? The S23 Ultra has the pants and vest better weather, more details. So I prefer the S23 Ultra. It would have been nice if the ground would have worked out even better, but the shot was mainly taken because of that person standing there. What are you with a photo with soil? ;), or you must already have a company or something. I prefer S23 Ultra overall. Sometimes is the iPhone better yes, but theire is more then only taking pictures and video. Android is more freedom and customazation.
You will have to be a fan of one or the other to think either is significantly better. It is primarily a personal subjective preference. What is clear is that no phone has proved itself to be ahead of the pack; no King of Cameras, just back and forth.
@@andyH_England And you ARE a fan of one, too. Don't say as if you are objective. I saw your hate comments about Samsung everywhere. I bet you got payed by Apple?
@@kfx3907 Nonsense, I have an S23U, and it is excellent, but when it is undergoing what I expect, then I am not a fanboy; I tell it as it is. To be totally honest, the S23U cameras are very disappointing. Ignoring the apparent issues with slow shutters, nighttime video, noise at night, overtly warm photos, oversharpening and inconsistent HDR. My main downside is that the 200mp has no benefits for most of us, and compared to the Chinese phones with one-inch sensors and 50mp zoom and ultra-wide, the S23U is well behind. This may apply to the iPhone, but we await their 2023 phones before I can summarise them.
@@lukemothug Im asking in this video, scene optimiser he just let default on or turn off because both have different color variations from i know.I would like to see the difference between these two setting vs iphone..

S23 Ultra is overall a better phone (not just only in photography) but As a photographer myself , the only reason I’m not upgrading to S23 Ultra from my 14 p.m is the focal length on Portrait mood. iPhone uses 75 mm lense whereas Samsung uses 70 mm lense . I really want Samsung to use 75mm focal length.
@@lukemothug Xiaomi 13 pro is even better than 13 ultra in many cases (specially for the value) but it beautify human skin almost in every single portrait shot. In my opinion, S23 Ultra is a much better option except for the focal length.

Hi danny..Did scene optimiser turn on or off on samsung s23 ultra?
How do you prefer to have it on? or off?
@@lukemothug Im asking in this video, scene optimiser he just let default on or turn off because
both have different color variations from i know.I would like to see the difference between these two setting vs iphone..
@@fitrikhuzaini It was on default.
I think you're based against the iPhone. In normal settings the iPhone has sharper images and smasung is soften, but it sem you've reversed the facts.
To confirm, Samsung's camera color engineers, are color blind.
I feel you try too hard to defend the iPhone. At 7:00 there is no way you can say iPhone did better.
Food category is seems important because people really capture a lot of photograph from smartphone 😍
yes prefer the food and macro shots for sure. pls keep it in all your reviews
Thanks for this review man .
Xiaomi 13 Pro has a really good portrait mode better than those two flagships you mentioned.
🤦🤦🤦 75...70..75...😂🤦🥴 I mean... come ooon ... cut the crap please 😅😅
So ..if Samsung would use 76mm you would choose it over 75mm on iPhone.... it's sooooo retarded ...sorry.🥴🥴🥴🤦🤦
@@egcozinon yes of course...& that's why You're an "average camera" user & I'm a professional photographer. Your comment is enough to know that btw.
@@lukemothug Xiaomi 13 pro is even better than 13 ultra in many cases (specially for the value) but it beautify human skin almost in every single portrait shot. In my opinion, S23 Ultra is a much better option except for the focal length.
Hands down s23 ultra is way better then the iphone. I'm loving my s23 ultra from day 1 and it's just getting better !
How's the video on s23 ultra, is there a video focus problem sometimes when there are multiple objects?
@D. on mines no. Videos on mines comes our very crispy and it tracks everyone very well.
On the zoom shots, it's a lot more noticeable when the subject is small, like performers or animals.
Finally the gap is closed, there is no much difference in photos and videos
