My jaw DROPPED! I love how you used the angled rack to let the dye flow down through the shirt - adds an extra watercolour effect that I love about ice dye🌀🧚🏼♀️
I've never seen Patricia's, but yours came out fantastic! Love the color combos and how it flows. Love all the 'diamonds' floating around. Great job!!! 🥰😍🤩
Its really fantastic Angie, I hope one day I can create something as awesome as your's. I only have 6 colors now but soon I will build up my collection of different dyes... I am intrigued how you use the hemostats in your art. 99.99 out of 100 lol actually 110 amazing great job. 👍 Erik. 😎🇳🇿
very pretty! I think if you want more dye flow, smaller ice cubes are the way to go. It would be interesting to do a side by side test of the same design/colors only 1 with your large square cubes and the other icemaker cylinders
It's a fantastic shirt Angie and so beautiful. I know this is an old video but I found it and saw that I had never watched the whole thing. By the way we do miss you.
Ok Angie. I must have watched this 20 times. And today is the day I did a Mandela. It’s under ice. When I was folding the shirt I felt a weird place on it. I had already soaked in soda ash and it had dried and then to be doubly sure I soaked again. It may be dried soda ash .. so we shall see. Fingers crossed. Love your videos!!!
That looks so cool, I love it. I wonder if the same thing was done with just blues, from lightest at the centre to the darkest, would look as snowflakey as I'm thinking it might.
It's a pretty design and with rainbow colors, it's even better. Completely abstract to me. It's an organized look and I really like to see patterns and shapes in things. This (besides the obvious) doesn't stand out that way to me and is fully abstract, which is also a good thing in it's own right.
I've had so many requests for an Alien shirt that I bought more hemostats and I still can't keep up with the demand. I was wondering if I can take the hemostats off after the ice has melted and the shirts have sat for a few hours? I would then let them sit and process without the hemostats.
That's awesome! I wouldn't take the hemostats off until you rinse the shirt out. Otherwise, the dye can flow into the area where the hemostats used to be which could blur your design.
I can't wait to try this method. I've ordered some hemostats for the occasion. I would love to do this on a full dress. How would you fold a dress for this design method?
Awesome, this design would be beautiful on a dress. To fold a dress you would fold it the same way I did the shirt. Depending on the cut of the dress, it may be a little more challenging. To get the Otten Alien design, you would need to incline your dress as well to allow the dye to flow.
@@KarenW124 You could do either one. I think it would depend on the cut of the dress. If it is a very full and flowy dress, I wouldn't extend the mandala all the way down the dress.
@@KarenW124 Unfortunately, you can't post photos in the comments. I went and watched your short video though, and your dress is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the colors you chose. ❤
Thank you! I am using hemostats. I have a link below the video in the description for where you can purchase some from Amazon. In the past I've also purchased them from Ebay and Harbor Freight.
Thank you! No, the hemostats are necessary to get the shape of the mandala with this design. You can tie a mandala with sinew, but it won't have the same look.
@@arnozegers7345 I have several mandala videos. Here is a link to one of them where I put the mandala on the front and the back. ruclips.net/video/gFrhSNyPx3A/видео.html We had a great time! I hope you did too! 😀
That is heat shrink tubing that I get in the electrical department of Lowe's or Home Depot. I put a piece over each side of the teeth and then shrink it to fit with a heat gun. It helps keep the teeth of the hemostats from ripping a hole in the fabric.
This is freaking amazing!!! Omg now I need to get more hemostats! It was 8.95 on Amazon for 1 single stat, that's a lot, do u know where u can find them in bulk? Did u buy yours in bulk? I have 2 one curved and one reg. And they've made holes in my shorts even thou I gave electrical tape wrapped around the teeth.
Thank you! I bought some last year from a place that sells a combination of things. I found them with a google search. I had to buy a minimum of $100 though. Here's a link: www.shelterdist.com/beauty-instruments.html I haven't ever tried wrapping mine with electrical tape, but I haven't had an issues with ones I have coated in heat shrink tubing damaging my fabric.
On thicker folds like mandalas and geodes, if the shirt is too wet it won't absorb the dye properly and get good color saturation. If you've ever seen a mandala that has large white streaks throughout the design, most of the time the shirt was too wet when it was dyed. The dye soaked into the first few layers but the fabric was too saturated to soak up the dye throughout. The same problem can happen with a thick geode fold. When the shirt is totally dry, it soaks up the dye like a sponge and wicks it down into the fabric. If you are doing thinner designs, dyeing items damp works just fine.
I'm sorry. I'm not sure what device you are using to view it, but if you are watching it from a desktop or from a television, the viewpoint is as if you were making the shirt yourself.
OH!!

I bet a bit of fish tank tubing would work on the hemostats too. In case people dont want to go to hardware store. Its found in most big box stores
That's a great tip, thank you for sharing! I never thought of that. 😀
Can you use locking tweezers for hemostats?
I've never tried that. I guess it would probably work though. 😀
