I am so ecstatic about this update. It improved both my iPhone 5s and my iPhone 4 ten fold. It also looks slightly better, a more unified UI. Bravo, Apple.

This is why Mike rocks.
All the little and subtle changes, like the animations on Control Center and the slider bouncing(which everyone else missed), are shown in detail, with great camerawork, as per.
Messaging wouldn't be a good idea on for Car Play IMO.
Is the update just for the IPhone 5s?

There are restrictions on Messaging, it's likely similar to how 'iOS in the Car' worked. My car with SYNC actually reads out-loud text messages, which is tremendously useful.

i absolutely love watching his videos. their so detailed, easy to understand to people who arent tech geeks and extremely entertaining to watch. usually i get bored watching long videos but never with mike, im interested the whole way through

Mike, It is very easy to find out where you live. 1st thing is that everyone knows your name. 2nd is that everyone knows what your house looks like because you test the camera and take pics and video of your home. Nice house btw. 3rd is that everyone knows you live around Detroit.

I didn't like the first version of iOS 7, but after updating to iOS 7.1 all I gotta say is that I'm super happy with the improvement and speed performance of the OS. I like how the colors are darker and the greens no longer have that hideous neon color. The bold keyboard looks great too, especially on the iPad. I got the iPhone 5S the day after the update came out and the battery has been really good. I've been getting more than a full day of moderate to heavy use with iOS 7.1.
I'm really glad Apple improved the performance on the iPhone 4. It was annoying how poorly it was performing at times. Makes me happier to keep using my iPhone 4.
The best feature for ipad is five finger close app no longer laggy. Im happy with that. :)
reduced motion has always been there. But great vid! I used to do these vids back when my iPods were more relevant. I can't even download iOS 7 onto my devices haha

Great video! The biggest improvement to me is the fact that the dialpad doesnt tweak when you go from that to an app and back again. Its very smooth in its transition.
I love how apple totally ripped almost ALL of these new features from the jailbreaking community! Why don't they just free up the software completely? Every update becomes more customizable like android anyway, they need to quit holding back and just give in to user demand..
Am I the only one who prefers the 7.0.6 slide to power off, phone app, and some other UI elements over 7.1?

7.0 had a sleeker unlock animation in my opinion

One of the many reasons I love Apple, is that even extremely old devices are not phased out completely after a period of say 4-5 years or more. The 4 year old iPhone 4 which was released before Steve Jobs' death is as Mike pointed out running the newest OS with all the bells and whistles. It has certainly not become a throwaway device. The same thing spans across all devices. Even my friends with the aged iPad 2 are running the new OS and are quite happy with it. Not much reason to upgrade to latest models. Performance wise even older models are plenty fast.

I like the update HOWEVER it messes me up with the keyboard when I select shift to make one letter uppercase. The shift icon looks like its going to uppercase because its more bold. It just screws me up!!
I believe you can if you have a backup of the previous software :)
My iPhone 5 is a lot faster & smoother after updating to iOS 7.1.
7.0.x was slow. Fortunately, Apple fixed it in 7.1.x
The first thing i noticed was the bolder fonts and what y love is the

Performance is by far the best improvement with this update, especially to those who own an older iPhone or iPad.
Definitely like to see more of these types of videos.

What an in-depth review of 7.1! I like it! Just two additions: When in Control Center, the music area now shows the app which is toggled - even if you´re not listening to anything and have no music-app running. Doesn´t seem to work with Spotify, however. When hitting play, nothing happens, but there´s written Spotify - which wasn´t there before.
Another thing is when reduce motion ist toggled on, the multitasking animation is now also gone and you have the fade effect. In iOS 7.0.6, double clicking the home button had a zoom out effect - now it fades.

after updating to iOS 7.1, i was amazed how blazing fast it is specially on the 5S. also i sold my iphone 4 to one of my friend and he's complaining all the time about the slow OS, but thanks to this update. Thumbs up to Apple for doing this!

I'm really liking iOS 7.1 on my 5s! I'm not a fan of the "No Notifications" text in Notification centre, and the darker boxes in the music app, but overall I dig it!
This update was a big leap for my 1st gen ipad mini really its like i just bought it yesterday, great job Apple. btw great video mike your my fav tech reviewer!! :))

Is very beneficial this video thank you you can see the darker color one selected in your settings if you look at the word assessability the color changes right away so you can notice it there I preferably use that over the regular colors. I also use the white balance option to easier on the eyes.
I'm excited to see how the performance on the iPhone 4 will vastly improve when I update.

I wish there was an option to selectively choose which animations I want. For instance, I can do without the parallax unlock and the 3D effect, but I actually like the animations for multitasking and folders.
I'm pretty sure you can do that now in 7.1.
lawnmowerdude it's not the case, man. I understand Calvin K. In iOS 7.1, to shut down the 3D motion on the wallpaper and the lock screen completely, you have to sacrifice the zoom animations for multitasking and folders

Very nice and comprehensive review of the update! Am currently using Android (Nexus 5) and think it's the best OS so far. But I have missed being in the apple ecosystem since I have a mac and all. Contemplating switching back after watching this video!

Neat! I love the new little changes.
You can now listen to RUclips audio now with the update. Normally if you're in safari and hit the home button while listening to the song it'll stop and you have to go back into safari. Now if you're to hit the home button the audio will stop, you swipe up from the button as if you were trying to access the flashlight, and hit the play button the youtube audio from safari will start playing, even if you were to lock your device! I'm impressed with technology now!
This isn't new actually, it's been around for a few releases now.
