- Katie Melua’s jazz and folk-influenced sound may be new for some American audiences, but she’s spent the last 15 years as one of Great Britain’s top artists. Her first seven studio albums were certified platinum in the U.K., 56 times. Her latest effort, “Album No. 8,” was released in the fall. She speaks to Dana Jacobson about making the new album, and her humble beginnings in the Republic of Georgia.

She is an amazing singer, and what I like the most is that she does the best Eva Cassidy interpretations. Americans should know Eva Cassidy as well. She is one of the greatest singers we’ve ever had! Eva is no longer with us but she is so famous in Europe, more than the US! Two amazing artists! I’m actually surprised CBS didn’t mention Eva, because Katie always say in her interviews her inspiration was Eva. It’s like the two come together.

She understood fetching water and a lack of things. Poverty comes many ways. At the top men always have the power to change things. They are dominated by fear, although they are powerful. I am curious how she left Georgia in 1994? Did they sell everything? Did they ride trucks? Were they gangsters? Did Tamar stay behind? Does Katie still support her family? Did she marry well? This should be a movie. Even these Russian trolls couldn't deny it.
