Back in the 90s, I bought a bag of classic Lay's from a vending machine. It had dead ants in it. In the days before the Internet, I called their 1-800 number to inform them. I wasn't angry or upset - I just wanted to let them know. Five days later I received an entire CASE of Lay's chips as an apology. Great customer service.
RUclipsr LA Beast ate 20 year old Cheetos and sent the bag to them and they sent him coupons
Those ants were just extra seasoning!
I'll keep that in mind next time I have a ants problem.
I messaged them like a month ago cause they discontinued the hot ruffles baked version and they sent me a coupon for a free bag of chip. Got a huge bag of hot Funyuns lol
One of the ingredients is insects, just read the fine labels.
Working at Walmart, it always fascinated me how much dedicated space in the back room Frito-Lay has. This actually explained a lot to me. Fair enough!
Im a Sales rep for Frito Lay, I delivery to Walmart and few other accounts and work the product. One of the biggest Walmarts in the US is here in Orlando near Disney. They keep 10 carts of backstock (a cart is on avg about 30 cases) and bring in a new 10 - 15, 7 days a week and more during the peak summer time.
@@TheDominiqueBallou you must have a dock truck to deliver to the store. How many stockers do you have, just for that store?
@@JStorm13 probably 20 per store , Walmart has around 100 employee per store
They pay Walmart for all that shelf space. That's why they have so much of it versus smaller brands. And they have so much because the sales support it.
@@JStorm13 We drive 35 ft truck, they fit 20-24 6ft x 8ft carts(length×height). It depends on the volume of the store, my route personally I have 2 Publix in a NH Walmart.
1st Publix does 15k a week
2nd Publix does 11k a week
NH Walmart does 15k a week
NH Walmart Impulse 1k a week
I only have 1 merch and I drop him 1 of my Publix and I do the other 2 stores myself
As a Mexican American I can confirm Frito Bandito is 🔥🔥🔥
and i'm i right in saying, just a silly character and not offinsive?
@@benjaminwatt2436 Willing to bet that just like today, it was mostly white liberals or second and third generation Latinos getting offended on behalf of the entire Mexican American population. I'm pretty sure my Mexican parents as well as most older Latinos from that time wouldn't have given a shit lol
100%
We need to bring our boy Frito Bandido back to represent La Raza

One of the coolest things about Fritos is the ingredient list:
Corn, Corn Oil, Salt.
lays ingredients: potato, vegetable oil, salt.
fewer ingredients than Taco Bell!
Yall taking like seed oils are good. Literal filler garbage.
It's an FDA loophole! There are many other ingredients in their corn oil and even salt. Just like how they extract the main component of MSG - the harmful one where it enhances the flavour - and put it in their products and say there is no MSG in our products.
Probably one of my favorite youtubers to talk about companies. You make it well rounded for someone who may not know as much about how companies function, and make it welcoming. Bravo.
Also he does not come in with a leftist bias against capitalism.
Anyone else you recommend watching?
@@qazhr i don’t think i’d even say disliking capitalism is even a left leaning ideal
@@qazhr Nor does he come with a capitalistic bias against leftism. He's just here to inform us about companies.
@@qazhr wtf are you talking about? He’s just here to talk about funnni company’s
Great company. I worked for them over 15 years ago at the R&D departement. Literally tasting snacks the whole day. And on Fridays you could bring a few bags home. I gained a lot of weight during that time.
🤢 So did I it went to my 👉🍑
Literally the only negative about working for them i bet 🤓
Gross
That's kind of hot 🔥
I'm mexican living in Mexico, and Frito Bandito is *awesome*.
I remember first getting hired by Frito Lay and realizing just how big the company was and how many products they stocked. It was insane. The Walmart I serviced had about 40 feet of product on the shelf
How much of that 40ft was for competitor product that got pushed aside, tore up the shelf tag, and parked F-L product in it's spot?
@@usernamunavailiable …. I actually work for a competitor and much shelf space can be bought. Frito Lay has all the money and the keys to the markets basically.
One or two times a year, a grocery store like Kroger does resets (the layout of the shelf space/products).
My space has been constantly been dwindling because we do not spend the money on shelf space which relegates my product to merely one or maybe two facings. It’s harder to make a buck as this happens. But yeah. Grocery store allots space but will also sell the shelf space.
I used to work for a merchandising company that would do Frito Lay resets in Walmarts. I HATED resets. UGH.
You're consistently one of my favorite creators and this video is a prime example why. Clear, detailed, good tangents. Most importantly you make something that could be "boring" fun and entertaining. Love it
He does make great break downs, my only complaint is that he apologizes too much.
@@benjaminwatt2436 its almost like hes canadian
As a Mexican i can confirm that we consume 80% or more of the Hot Cheetos produced. I started eating them at the age of 2 😂
And I can confirm, for the same reason, that Doritos and Tostitos are just seasoned topos. Also that I never heard anyone calling little bits of gold "doritos".
As a fellow Mexican, i confirm this 😂👌🏼
@@SergioLeonardoCornejo I guess they meant it came from "doraditos". But regardless, they're just totopos, like they've existed forever
@@rubengomezz yup.
Mmmm red40
I love how this fellow can make something as simple as chips seem so compelling.
I worked 12 years for Frito lay as a Potato chip processing cook/Opertor I was part of the whole process from reviving in raw potato’s all the way to finished product.
Gratz
I'm on the other side of the wall as a pmo
So you're why gained weight 😢
As a Mexican, I fucking died laughing the concept of Frito Bandito. I friggin LOVE it! Bring it back. I’m DED. 🤣
The only reason it's gone here in America is because of the Anti Defamation league. The Frito Bandito character should honestly be used in Mexico only just to see how it will be recognized in that country.
Frito Lay is Pepsi’s biggest cash cow. Also SunChips are really good, they actually came out in 1989, and you didn’t mention Lays Stax which is their competitor to Pringles, since Frito Lay wasn’t allowed to buy Pringles due to antitrust concerns and instead Kellogg’s bought Pringles from P&G!
Bro they should've been concerned ages ago 💀
@@illford6921 but I’m not surprised that they didn’t let Pepsi buyout Pringles, since PepsiCo owns a significant market share of potato chips in America!
Great job! I've been working for frito-lay for 5 years. I work on the trucks. Interesting info is to say we're merging more and more into PepsiCo. Also we buy up smaller companies. Popcorners, crackerjack, quaker, etc. That's how PepsiCo has dominated.
I love the Doritos products and Cheetos. The one issue I have with Frito-Lay is with the re-branding of the shrinking packages the chips comes in.
What is considered today as the _jumbo_ "Party Size" package, used to be, decades ago, the _regular_ sized package the chips came in.
Believe its or not, my nickname in elementary school was the "Frito Bandito". I have a hispanic last name, but that wasn't why. My mother always included a bag of Fritos in my lunch, and Fritos were really popular at the time with the bandito commercial on the TV, so the name stuck.
its a fire nickname
It’s an awesome name.
That's a really cool nickname though not gonna lie
I can still sing the song.
When I went to England, I found out that Cool Ranch flavor comes in a different colored bag (cyan blue instead of dark blue) and that they are called Cool American. I wouldn't shut up about it for a month, thats so funny. I never thought about Ranch being a distinctly American flavor before that. I also miss Cheeto Twists sooo much!! They were huge and awesome and such a fun shape. Purple bag too :)
Cheeto puffs are my favorite nowadays with a sandwich, but when I was a kid, cool ranch and hot flames were tied for first, with a bag each of Vintners salt and sour and cheese potatoe chips (Chips were 25 cents a bag then and I even remember in the 80s when they were 15 cents)😊
The original Fritos are indispensable because of how good they work with soups and recipes. They are also a great change of pace when you are tired of normal potato chips and also seem more filling.
They’re also arguably the healthiest - sure they’re fried but they only have three ingredients: corn, corn oil, and salt. Compare that to any of the other products mentioned in the video, which have a laundry list of chemicals in their ingredients.
Regular cheese Doritos, for example, has like 30+ ingredients, including sugar, dextrose, lactose, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, 3 artificial colors, and “natural and artificial flavor.”
In my mind, Fritos wins hands-down.
DUDE! Your videos are just outstanding. They are so original, informative, and family friendly, and I could go on forever. Keep up the GREAT work.
Yes! I love that I've never heard anything on this channel that I wish my kids hadn't heard :)
Cottonseed oil is most definitely a gamechanger. Recently tried a Pringles and it tasted much blander than it used to, checked the ingredients list and it no longer contains cottonseed oil like it used to.
Not containing cottonseed oil is a big plus for the consumer's health tho
Sneed oil
I’ve been working for Frito Lay for about a year now as a merchandiser and so far I can’t complain much it’s a great company with a very hands off approach on their employees. Only complaint would be their management organization and how they sometimes can be very oblivious to how it is to be the ones stocking and the timing. Otherwise it’s fun to sometimes get a lot of free chips and try the new and limited edition snacks. Also are very competitive in pay which is always a plus. Also I was waiting on this video since I was hoping you went into Frito Lay in the PepsiCo video haha. Great video as always!
Bro u need to get me job there how do I apply maybe not in a office but I could do deliveries ong

My wife is Mexican, when I showed her the video of the Frito Bandito she laughed her ass off.
Just like how mexicans and Hispanic don't get offended over latino/latina, then clowns say you are supposed to be offended and its actually latinx despite being a gender language.
The story of how the Flaming Hot Cheetos came to be and their inventory is an inspiring one.
Flaming hot Cheetos you mean the janitor story is hot Cheetos
If you haven't seen the movie about the janitor that made flamin hot, you need to watch it. It's an amazing movie.
Back in the 90s, I worked as a route salesperson for FL. In those days, FL was and today still is the “Cash-Cow” of Pepsico. The best job I ever had…and today I still receive a significant pension all these years later.👍
I love this video, I have been a big fan of your channel, now as for Frito Lay, I'm a big fan of all of their products.
I remember in the 90s, Ruffles had the slogan “get your own bag“. That was pretty accurate because if someone offered me a single Cheddar & Sour Cream Ruffle, I’d return an empty bag to them and I wouldn’t feel bad about it. 😋
Nowadays in México, there is this trending calling Dorilicos (crazy Doritos) where one can prepare the Doritos with cucumber, carrots, dip, lime, peanuts and others toppings. I never testing but I know for sure that that level of salt and flavour is to addictive.
nothing better than a new Company Man video!
I do epoxy flooring and I have spent so much time inside their manufacturing facilities. I was obsessed with Flaming Hot Cheetos but they were so hard to find. At the time Atlanta, GA was the hub for all things Flaming Hot. I would stock up every time I went to Atlanta and bring back to Tennessee. The first time I went to Frito Lay's facilities and saw fresh...hot out of the oven Flaming Hot Cheetos coming down the conveyer my mouth must of been watering...cause apparently one of the workers saw me salivating. He grabs a container and fills it to the rim with them and tells me to go to the break room and enjoy. They were still hot to the touch but my god they were out of this world. I kept thinking there are very few people on the planet that had ever had a fresher Flaming Hot Cheetos 😂😂😂. Great videos! Just found you recently and been binge watching
One of Pepsi’s biggest advantages is the synergy among their various divisions. For example, they also used to own Taco Bell®️, A&W Root Beer®️, and a number of other fast food companies, which enabled them to distribute their soft drinks through those channels as well. They still have contracts with major companies; in fact, the Baja Blast®️ flavor of Mountain Dew®️ is now found almost exclusively at Taco Bell. You also had the synergy of a snack company selling you sugary soft drinks to wash down the salty snacks. This is something that Coca-Cola®️ got into way late, and PepsiCo has always maintained that advantage.
It's funny... my aunt and I were having a conversation about this at Easter, and now a good, detailed video about Frito-Lay is out a few weeks later. I'll have to share this with her 😂
Great content as usual. Thanks man
I don’t know why I love your videos so much. They’re just so weirdly informative. To answer the question; Salt and Vinegar chips all day.
I love Frito Lay products. I’m a huge chip person and my gosh I didn’t realize just how many different brands they actually owned
This guy doesn't post enough 😂 He does such a good job with these research videos. Please do one on Hastings Entertainment of the 90's!
Nothing beats Fritos for me. Plain, Chili Cheese, even those weird "Flavor Twist" Fritos are great. I like them alone, with bean dip, with chili and cheese in a Frito pie. In my version of Heaven, Fritos are everywhere.
And yes, I know they are pretty terrible for you. Not saying I eat them often, I just love it when I do get a chance to indulge.
yes
It’s such a classic lay back chip to eat if u don’t want something spicy or something to plain get some Fritos their soooo good love those chips
I'm addicted to your videos man.
Excellent video, outstanding research!
My man you never disappoint this was very fun and informative
The flaming hot lime Cheetos are my favorite. But also consider this, overseas territories get some pretty neat and unusual flavors for their chips, as well as Cheetos. Sadly, none of them ever make it here to the U.S. market (unless you find a website to special order or if World Market just happens to carry them).
You can find some flavors at Hispanic or Asian grocery stores if you have them in your area. Snack on!
I love Fritos...Cheetos...All the itos!
Love this channel just found it this month ❤
Great video man I love all these snacks.
I love your work. Please keep the business info coming. Thanks
I'm a HUGE fan of cheetos, and actually hate flaming hot. Half the time stores I go to don't even sell the original now, and only have flaming hot, which is frustrating. My second favorite chips were the Wasabi Funyuns, which were sadly discontinued. (they basically tasted like wasabi peas, but with that funyun crunch.)
Brilliant video, really interesting as always.
This puts everything into perspective. Thanks for the video
I don't see how Frito Bandito is a stereotype of a Mexican-American. He's a caricature of Poncho Villa if anything lol
Tell that to the Anti Defamation league who said that.
Which makes it better? Villa was portrayed in the US as a womanizer and attacking US States and territories for munitions, stealing and a German sympathizer. He wasn't as bad as that, but that was the pop culture news of him.
Spicy nacho Doritos are my favorite, and I prefer flaming hot Cheetos over regular. Although, I love both
I'm addicted to good old Nacho cheese Doritos. The various kinds of Ruffles are also good, especially for dipping.
I had a friend who worked at the Frito-Lay plant in Houston. She worked on the Cheetohs line and said they were so good fresh out of the fryer. She wouldn't eat them out of the bag.
I love the Frito Lays brand that I bought the Pepsi stock back in 2011. As a shareholder, thank you for for supporting all their products.
I had no idea they were so big lol, nacho cheese Doritos, cheesy Cheetos and Tostidos are some of my favorite snacks! Same with Ruffles.
Wow! Two weeks in a row... To what do we owe such an honor that you would choose San Antonio companies to feature. KUDOS to you Company...
Finally you review the company I work for. I work at one of the plants in the southwest USA
I assumed they bought recipes for some of these, but it turns out they invented Fritos, Cheetos, Doritos, and Lay chips in-house, with the possible exception of Doritos. They’re all good products and almost impossible to duplicate (especially Cheetos).
Thanks for sharing, love your content! Now I’m suddenly hungry for chips 🤔
i'm currently working for Frito-lays and i'm still amazed of how much product they have!
I grew up with Frito-Lay, Laura Scudder's, Bell Brand, and Granny Goose. For a few years I lived right next to a Granny Goose packaging plant.
First off I'm just glad BBQ Fritos 😋 made a come back. Man i missed those. 2. Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream are grossly underrated those chips are just 👌.
Those BBQ flavor Frito twist be bussin and hit the spot too.😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
We give that company waaaaaayyyyy too much money each month 🤣🤣
Aghh I’m late! But I already know this is gonna be a good video!
Mike,
I like this take... a follow up. I think all huge companies deserve it.
I like chips
Love thier chips! & you know PepsiCo will NEVER sell it's Frito-Lays unit! They bought & sold or spun off many things they used to own. But always kept Frito-Lays!
Great video man, I had a lot of fun watching! It just seems like things were so much simpler to get off the ground back in the day. Now you sell chips or food out if your car, the cops will shut you down
Thank you for this excellent episode!!!! ☮️
In Australia, Doritos are really common, but Cheetos and Lays are very rare and I've never seen the rest.
That’s so interesting. I feel like if Aussies like Doritos, they’ll love Cheetos! Also I thought you guys had Lay’s but it’s sold as Walker’s?
My favorites are: 1) Ruffles. 2) Lay's. 3) Fritos. Some flavors are better than others, so I will just say that the plain varieties are best. My mouth is watering right now. Thankfully, I have a bag of Ruffles in my cupboard 😋
These videos are great!!
Frito Lay all the way!
Frito-Lay was banned in my household growing up because they used their size and legal muscle to bankrupt my grandfather and force him out of business. My grandfather had a competitor business that was doing very well with a new way of processing corn for corn chips. He had just become a millionaire overnight in his 20s.
Frito-Lay sued him, claiming that he obtained this process with insider information from his ex-father in law who still worked for Frito Lay. They also fired the father-in law. It was bullshit, or so the family story goes. My grandfather hated his jerk of a father in law and did not keep in touch with him, let alone collude with him. Frito-Lay used that connection to justify their lawsuit. They kept throwing money at it until my grandfather couldn’t afford to fight to the lawsuit anymore and was forced to dissolve his company. The next year, Frito-Lay started using the very same corn chip technique he invented.
Our family ended up okay anyways, but it’s crazy to think we could have been millionaires with a family business if Frito-Lay wasn’t so ruthless in the early days of their ascent to market dominance.
Excellent video! Frito-Lay! My favorite of the products are Doritos, specifically the Spicy Nacho flavor, though I also really enjoy some of the different Fritos flavors as well, particularly Chili Cheese and the BBQ-Honey Flavor Twists... and Sun Chips are great as well, particularly the Harvest Cheddar ones. Let's just say I like my chips.
In reference to the Taco Loco at Taco Bell....remember Pepsico spun off Taco Bell (and others) about 1997 or so and they still have the desire to work together for new product ideas.
Nobody really cares about cartoons, Latin Americans love Speedy Gonzales, a caricature is by definition something that exaggerates traits, so it's silly to get upset about it. If we are gonna be so sensitive we would have to censor pretty much everything, because movies always contain fiction/lies and exaggerations.
Another great video!
Not sure if anyone's mentioned this already, but going back to Frito being a part of Disney, they used to be mentioned in one of the attractions. It was the Country Bear Jamboree I think. And I think it mentioned it being presented by Pepsi-Cola and Frito Lay. There's old videos of it on here if anyone's curious.
The story of how Hot Cheetos were made is truly inspiring and needs more attention. Maybe Ben Affleck can do a movie about it.
As usual, people that have no business in getting offended are. For instance, not so recently (by Space Jam 2) certain sectors of the American population tried to ban Speedy Gonzalez but did not happen because Mexicans (and Latinos in general) love the character.
For me, Doritos is my favorite. Just plain cheese Doritos followed by cheddar and sour cream Ruffles and then Lays sour cream and onion.
I'm hispanic and my family is from Mexico. Bandito is the Mexican name for a bandit. I like it. It's like McDonald's Hamburglur. They should bring it back
Don't forget that Jay Leno advertised Doritos for several years with the tagline, "crunch all you want, we'll make more." Jumpin' Jack was my favorite flavor at the time.
I have to say my favorite brands are kettle cooked potato chips - did that start with Frito lay or did they just hop on a gourmet trend?
Hi,Mexican here. Only people who are white get offended by Mexican stereotypes
Genuinely curious; why is that?
@@Limpshot_McGee I have no idea. Theres a pattern where not specifically white people, but anyone but the mentioned race get offended on another culture's behalf when the mentioned race dont really care. Like the Latinx thing. Its mostly americans and people with Latin heritge that use Latinx when actual mexican and latin people hate it

Not that long ago up in Canada one of our big grocery companys didn't want to raise there prices on the chips and frito lay pretty much stopped supplying chips to them until they agreed to raise the prices that frito lay wanted the price of the chips

thank god they cancelled that character. I was upset as a white boy. I lost so much sleep over it I developed a Mexican accent and I cancelled myself
