Thank you for your generosity in sharing! VERY interesting top 10!! Some categories are not at all what I expected, nor what you expected!! Wow on the books! And they say people don't read anymore! 🤩I'm looking forward to watching you grow in FY24!! 😍😍BTW I'm with Jaz on the breakables!! 🤣🤣 Great advice at the end on choosing what's best for each person and their own store! 🥰
Thanks Leanne. Yes definitely some surprises in this lot, haha. Yea I think each person is naturally going to find categories that work for them and are available in their area as we all have slightly different advantages.
In 2005 when I first started it was books I sold. I have a friend who owns a second hand bookshop which I used to work in casually. It is a category that takes a lifetime to learn. They tend to have slower sell through but generally higher profit margin as you can pick them up next to nothing if you know where to look. I would put graphic novels in with book category too so there by far your best selling. As for CD’s, I love music so always picking up CDs cheap or in bulk lots and have sold some for over $50, and I enjoy listening to new stuff in the process. Again takes time to know. Really the key factor here is time, your time, what you want to spend your time getting to know well and also if you enjoy it. No fun = no point, might as well go back to full time job.
Interesting info guys! I've also started to pull some VHS out due to the costs to ship them as a result of the new postage cost increases & you start to realise they do take up a fair bit of space when you get enough of them. Thanks for the vid!
there so many surprises in categories when we do the research; and this is just the tip of the ice berg. Literally giving away $700,000 of opportunity knowledge here :P of course, only happens if we do the work, which you guys continue to do! Way to go team
Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. I basically only sell books and there are some amazing books out there.. just need some more here 🤣 well done and continue to share with us! Amazing effort, well done Daniel for his knowledge, Pixie too. 😊
Love this video guys. Really good breakdown. Interesting about the books smashing the rest. Would never of picked that! Congrats on the new helper! Top three for me Jeans, action figures and dildos 👍💦🤣
Personally I love selling cds. You really need to be particular about genre’s though. I recently picked up 150 cds and they are all heavy, death metal. Majority of them are $20+ for used cds!
@@2AussieThrifters For sure, some of the earlier pressings (Made in Japan/West Germany) go for a lot but some of them are only worth a couple of bucks. Always worth checking out the CDs.
Haha yea surprised me too but we have had some really good quality books come through. Yea VHS definitely tough, hopefully those DVD’s keep pushing through
i can't wait to look at my figures, been to busy arghh!! thanks for the share though peeps.. be keen to see your TOP 10 in some of those categories for the FY
Hey can you show me the specific generic padded mailers you buy for dvds ? I tried ordering one on Amazon with the same dimensions as the PM1 mailer for auspost but the dvds didn’t fit. I believe you mentioned PM1 as the auspost mailers you used before in the video.
I’ll li no below, We grabbed similar to these from eBay www.ebay.com.au/itm/333273461414?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=hMmgJVxBQ4S&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=vdC2OXxYQB2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I've just started reselling on ebay, based in Melbourne, and I've found your videos absolutely fantastic in teaching me things to look for and things to look out for. I wish you guys nothing but success. I resell as a hobby and for some extra weekend cash and mainly focus on DVD's currently but loving this as a small side hustle/hobby business.
@@2AussieThrifters Well with the way the cost of living is these days I had to do something. Not sure what it's like in SA but it's getting tough down in VIC. Keep up the awesome content :)
Tough question, so i think there is a few avenues here, local auction houses (google search), Australian Wholesalers (mostly clothing) and then lastly building networks and looking for closing stores.
We use a SKU system so each row has a number for example R1S4.5 box 5 10 ie R1 = row 1 then we have a Shelf number S4.5 means shelf 4 and on that shelf the 5th shelf then we would have it in box 5 bag number 10 hope that make sense, we then also have our Cost of goods set up after that within the custom SKU section within ebay.
Thanks Lisa ohh that’s a good question, I’d have to confer with Cara but I’d say probably something like sass and bide, Camilla or Joseph ribkoff they never last long
80% of my start up ebay store is movies and media, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, VHS while I'm still green (8 weeks in) it seems to be going well, I have a goal of 30k profit for the financial year 23/24 as i work full time in another government job, I'm still learning everyday and it's hard to start up, its so time consuming but so much fun. Question: you guys don't actually thrift all that stock though right ?
A bit confused by this one? We have a lot more CD’s left over them we do jeans… we also had a lot more CD’s come through then jeans… sell through rate is important to keep cash flow moving.
We're getting sales from 6yo stock as well as the 1 night just listed stock. Slow sell through rates don't bother us. Of course we buy the bolos when they rarely present themselves. But we couldn't live off them as everyone else is chasing the same big ticket items. The slow sell through rate items are what keeps us off unemployment.
Profit could be 20% after warehouse, sourcing, fees, promotions and postage costs for some items and 50% for other items due to lower postage/sourcing costs.

What are your top three categories?
My top three categories:
#3 Vinyl Records
#2 Women's Tops
#1 BOOKS!! 😍😂
Not a surprise for me as book comprise 50% of what I list each day. 🤩
Womens tops, depend on brands.
#1 electronics
#2 laserdiscs/dvd
#3 industrial equipment/tools
I didn’t see you guys mention electronics do you avoid the category all together?
great Vid. My top 3 are:
DVD's
Womens Tops
Mens Jeans
Ohhh love it it’s interesting too see what everyone else’s are 🙏

Where are you guys finding the majority of your inventory garage sales, private sales, auctions, thrift stores?
Honestly a huge mix, of all of the above, we are needing quite a lot of stock to maintain the momentum.
Great video once again..now I know what not to look out for you .. books being top category was surprising x

Dumb question (I know) but where and how do you become aware of wholesale auctions? Are there companies that regularly host wholesale auctions?

Toys, shoes, VHS and coal
I bet that coal is the best seller 😅
I would only buy CDs & DVDs for less than $1.
Definitely want to be getting them at low prices
I don't know why, but i sort of thought pants would be no.1
Ohh wouldn’t be a bad guess, I think previous years it would have been up there.
6 Million Dollar Man Complete Series 😮

CD's vs Jean's revenue, why worry about a slow sell through rate when they're doing 3x higher revenue for you?
A bit confused by this one? We have a lot more CD’s left over them we do jeans… we also had a lot more CD’s come through then jeans… sell through rate is important to keep cash flow moving.

inspirational :)

Business is all about the profit though. I find lots of resellers talk about revenue though for whatever reason
Oh ofcourse definitely understand that, we spoke in depth last week about our profit for reference.
