One of our families favorite Jewish holidays is Channukkah. It’s such a beautiful time to celebrate with family and friends. Of course there are delectable Treats involved.
Happy Hanukkah from our family to yours!
Sourdough Donuts:
500gm Bread Flour
100g Active Starter
60g Sugar
10g Salt
100g Eggs (2 Eggs)
220g Milk
100g Butter
Add starter, milk and eggs to mixer
Add sugar and turn on the mixer on low speed
Add flour and salt
When a dough forms, add room temperature butter
Knead until all butter is incorporated into dough
Continue kneading until it starts to clean the bowl or starts pulling at the scraper about 15 minutes
Turn out dough onto work surface
Slap and fold a few times until dough can pass the window pane test
Place in oiled container and refrigerate overnight
In the morning prepare donut balls of 50gm each
Cover and let proof for 8 hours
Fry
Donuts:
2 whole eggs
2 Egg yolks
4 tbsp Sugar
Pinch of salt
2.5 tsp of rapid rise yeast
1/2 Cup Warm Milk
3 Cups + 2 tbsp bread flour
2 tbsp softened butter
Mix for 10-15 minutes

Happy Hanukkah. I am muslim so as my husband but my in laws are French Christians so when they visit us in North America for the holidays I take it upon myself to cook a Christmas dinner for them with an American flair of course! the donuts included!! You have no idea the amount of joy they express every time they spend the holidays with us. Food can be really magical in the way it brings us together!! Happy Hanukkah again and God bless

I loveed seeing the Dulce de Leche donut with the Stroopwafel (That is what that syrop filled wafer is called in The Netherlands a typical Dutch treat (you pronouncee it StrooooopWaaahfel, the O and A are pronounced as in the exclamation Oh NO, and the A as in Ooh Ahh) it is eaten at any time of the year, the Dutch donuts (Oliebollen/oilballs literally translated) are only eaten at the changing of the year, so Old years eve and New Years day. I haven't been able to keep up with the Dutch traditions as it pertains to St Nicholas as opposed to Christmas, but Oliebollen are an absolute MUST!! It just will not be a good new year without! Things were much simpler when I was a kid- we got a quarter from my Grandmother and played dreidel and would get together with our cousins. I love watching the way you make Chanukah and every day so special for your family!
