    Hi! In this video, I am sharing with you the things I wish I knew as a new convert about the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah and how it is observed as an Orthodox Sephardic Jew.
    We cover the basics about Hanukkah (also spelled Chanukah) such as the history behind it and the reason we are celebrating, as well as the practical aspects of what mitzvot are performed (and how, and when) as part of Hanukkah celebrations.
    If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to post in the comments under the video. :)

      Word of advice; run away from Reform "conversion" and seek out an orthodox one. "Reform" is not Judaism. They will corrupt your mind with their evil ideas.

    Thank you for this informative video! It is very helpful. Learning how to celebrate each holiday can be so daunting and overwhelming, so I really appreciate that you take so much time and effort to make these videos!
    Congratulations on expecting!!! I'm so excited for you! Baruch Hashem! Praying for you and your baby to have a safe, easy and smooth pregnancy; and for a healthy baby. :)
    I agree on the deep fat fried foods- I don't understand why that became a tradition, it is so unhealthy. There are so many ways to incorporate healthy oils into every meal. It is so sad how these days people don't realize that what we eat directly effects our health. It is lovely to see that you and your family do eat healthy and lead by example! People need to see this more.
    I love family videos at the end- so cute.
    Thank you for another great video. Happy Chanukah. G-d bless you and your family.

      Yes, #5, b'H! Thank you for the well-wishes!
      I'm with you on the oils, I do love me some oils and fats, but I don't use any refined seed oils in my kitchen, only butter, olive oil, avocado oil, and of course whole foods like fish, nuts, avocado, etc.
      Happy Chanukah to you and yours, as well! 🤗💗

    Hello I liked the video, and was wondering where you got your Jewish calendar?

    • @jayellealafi5797
      @jayellealafi5797  5 месяцев назад

      I got my calendar from the local Chabad, they usually do one for our city every year. So you could, if you have Chabad around you, ask them if they have a calendar with halachic times.
      I'm sure they'd be happy to give you one if they have for a small donation.
      If that isn't an option for you, alternatively you can go to this website, Hebcal www.hebcal.com put in your location, (necessary for accurate times) and then you can customize a calendar to include all the info you want. It can then be downloaded, printed, synced to a digital calendar app, etc.
      It's not beautiful or aesthetic, but it certainly is practical!
      Hope this helps you!

    Janelle!!! Menorah has only seven branches. We use Chanukah!!! We are not allowed to hold in the home seven branched menorah since it’s the menorah ( 7 candle holders) supposed to be only in the Temple.

    I was born/raised Orthodox though I'm not now. A few things I always wondered: how do ppl afford the lifestyle, especially if you have sons (kosher tefillin cost $$$!) And yeshiva/ dayschool. And kosher food especially during Pesach? And that's just some of it.
    Also, diabetes runs in many Jewish families..how do frum diabetics manage when much Ashkenazi Jewish food is so high-sugar/high-carb? What if you have to be grain-free? During Pesach you must eat matza, at least a tiny amt.

      You might want to look at Berel Solomon's video talking about the Jewish circular economy. Basically, Jews will mostly use Jewish companies for all their needs- thus providing an income for the people in their community. Plus the charity situation...all organizations that help disadvantaged families...there's a lot more to unpack on the how's and why's but those are just the tip of the iceberg. And of course Emunah and bitachon help more than all the above !

    So I'm confused, if you light a candle, one per night for eight days, where does the 44 candles come from?

    • @jayellealafi5797
      @jayellealafi5797  5 месяцев назад

      We don't light one per night. We light 1 plus shamash ( 2 total) on the first night, 2 plus shamash (3 total) on the 2nd night, 3 plus shamash (4 total) on the 3rd night, and so on until we reach 8 nights and all nine branches of the Chanukiah are lit. Hope this helps. 😊

    When lighting my menorah, should the oil catch fire and fill the entire service of the glass cup? 😮 Please advise if this is correct as this is what is happening to me.

    • @jayellealafi5797
      @jayellealafi5797  6 месяцев назад

      Are you using a wick? The entire surface of the oil should not be catching fire, no, that could be dangerous.

      @@jayellealafi5797 i didn't think this was correct thank you for confirming.. yes I am using a wick, I did not initially purchase the metal tubbing that goes around the wick though, so hopefully when that comes in it will solve this problem
