It’s possible Dumbledore didn’t believe Harry or couldn’t take the risk in regards to the parchment’s authenticity. He would be directly responsible for whatever consequences befall Harry in that scenario anyway since he was the sole caster of the age limiter charm. So the de facto answer has to be the one that gives Harry the best chance at surviving. Maybe Dumbledore had second guessed the charm he produced. Whatever it was, he felt there were too many variables to take the risk of what I’m assuming is instant death.
As for Harry, maybe he didn’t think about not competing very much or at all after his name was drawn. He just didn’t consider it. Or figured it was a higher power finally listening to his prayers. Or he came to the same decision Dumbledore did and figured it was too risky to sit out voluntarily.

    • @samueldunham6411
      @samueldunham6411 4 года назад +50

@@WestonEvans is on to something, I think. Wizard Law is pretty archaic and unjust, as is demonstrated pretty much every time it comes up in stories. So we can assume that, due to the letter of the law, Harry is on the hook to participate, even if it's 100% not fair. You know what else wasn't fair? Literally any trial in the middle ages, which seems to be the last time any part of Wizarding culture changed in the Harry Potter books.
That said, Harry COULD have forfeited. First challenge he could have walked out, put down his wand, and tapped out. The judges (most likely Dumbledore) would swoop in and rescue him, and give him zero points. Repeat for challenges two and three. He has to technically compete, but nothing says he has to actually try to win...But that's not Harry. One of his driving character traits is his ego. He's got to prove himself, just like the sorting hat said in the first book. He wants to be the hero, he loves it. It's the reason he keeps getting into tight spots and we actually have stories to tell. He may not go LOOKING for trouble, but he sure as heck doesn't do anything to dissuade it, or back down when it comes knocking. He didn't put his name in the cup, but as soon as his name got spat out his fate was sealed. What, back down? And give Malfoy another thing to ridicule him for? Harry's ego would never allow that. He was given an opportunity for greatness, he had to take it.

Ok but Durmstrang never winning kinda makes sense to me. In the books, their entrance seemed to be undermined whilst Beauxbaton’s is viewed as elegant or equal to that of Hogwarts. Also Hogwarts teaches a variety of subjects (I assume Beauxbaton does the same), whilst Durmstrang has a notable emphasis on the dark arts meaning they don’t have the same versatility as the other two schools. I like to think that the other two schools view Durmstrang the same way people view Germany during Eurovision.

So under appreciated because Rowling didn’t want to give a school that encouraged an understanding of the Dark Arts any equal standing.

If Tom Riddle would have been expelled by being connected to the Chamber of Secrets and heir of Slytherin, he would not have the support of Dumbledore, his wand would be broken, and he would be a life long inmate of Azkaban OR he would have to fight his way to freedom, with either outcome of fugitive or death as the result. Well no, the risk for Tom Riddle and why he framed Hagrid wasn't because he might get found out and expelled himself. It was because the entire School was at risk of being closed down (for some reason). So Tom Riddle framed Hagrid so the Ministry would have some to blame and it would all be wrapped up. He was never at risk personally. Riddle just needed the school as good cover and also because it was a great place to gain the knowledge he needed and to recruit people loyal to him.

@@bobbarrel7271 yes it was on the pitch but they still couldn't see into the maze or everyone would've known Krum had used an unforgivable curse.
They may have been able to see one maybe two rows into the maze on their side but that would be it. The stands are just too short to see into the maze. Remember the hedge walls were about 20 feet tall. The stands would have to be 60 + feet tall to see even half the way down the walls. Take a pice of cardboard and stand it up. Then get only a few inches away and slowly rise straight up, not leaning towards it, and stop when you can see the floor, table top, or whatever the cardboard is on and measure how high you had to move up to see the bottom of the maze. Best to use 10 inch or 20 inch tall cardboard. With 10 inch you will have to double the end measurement as the wall would only be half of what it should be. 1 inch equals 1 foot if the cardboard in 20 inches. So 10 inch cardboard is half the hight it should be so 1 inch equals 2 feet in a 10 inch wall.
The only way to see everything that is happening in the maze is to be directly over it. So no, no one with the exception of Moody could see what was going on in the maze.

What I would like as a tri-wizard tournement:
    1. The champions will all have to face a dangerous and wizarding-world-ending kind of event that once happened in the history of the wizarding world (like the dragon that got lose on a beach with muggles, or what happened in Fanatastic Beasts). They are judged by how they solve the situation and how they handle the danger. The Wizards in those events normally get a award for their bravery or something, so if the champion would do something that would earn that prize they would get a hint for the next challenge.
    2. With the hint from the first challenge the champions discover that they have to bring a magical creature with them to an big area where the three champions face each other and their Beasts. They have to try to get something they care about from the other champions that is protected by the champion and his/her magical beast. If a champion did not get the hint than they will have to go into the challenge without a beast and try to claim and protect by themselves.
    3. A big mine made by goblins in which the champions have to face different creatures, goblins and traps while trying to find the deepest part of the cave where the troffee lays, which they have to bring back to the surface personally.

Task #1- locked in separate timed escape rooms with various creatures and traps. Solve puzzles, use quick thinking, strength and genius to battle creatures and avoid traps. Find your scroll which is hidden in the room and escape in time. Having the scroll when you escape is not required but recommended.
Task #2- an obstacle course through the dark forest with bogats portraying your worse fears and dark forest creatures throughout the course. Depending on your place in the first task you will be released one by one and need to make it to the end. The scroll you obtained in task #1 shows directions that will lead you through the specific route you alone will have to take. If you couldn’t get your scroll in the 1st task you will have to find your way on your own with only a few hints trough out the route. This task is strictly a survival test.
Final task #3- a battle royale in a giant arena with mini versions of different land masses (forest, ocean, desert, mountain) and weapons pre-selected by the judges. Again, depending on your place in the 2nd task you will be given first choice of weapon and which landmass you want to be on. wands will also be allowed alongside weapon of choice. Use everything you’ve learned and experienced to take out(not kill) the other champions.

3: A pyramid the size of a stronghold with scattered traps, skeletons with muggle flint-locks, and at the roof would be a clock of disasters that constantly changes time and land around the pyramid.

I've always wondered if the Yule Ball was a way for the organisers of the Triwazard tournament to vet the champions "People they will sorely miss" for use in the Second Task. What better way to assess the four champions than in a social setting. At the Yule Ball (both book and movie versions), Harry and Ron stuck together after getting ditched by their bored dates, Hermione and Cho were clearly romantically involved with their partners Krum and Cedric, and though we don't know much about Fleur's experience at the ball, maybe she talked a lot about her little sister?

2:27 "Although, how such an object can make such a decision from a mere piece of parchment with a name remains quite questionable."
The Goblet of Fire uses psychometry for the purpose of selecting strong champions. This keeps the competition fair and weeds out confident yet unskilled students from entering an already highly dangerous tournament. The Goblet is described as an exceptionally powerful magical artifact. We know of another exceptionally powerful magical artifact that uses legilimency to gain knowledge of a person to make decisions: The Sorting Hat.
Though, unlike the Sorting Hat, I believe the Goblet was granted only semi-sentience due to its narrow purpose. I came to this conclusion because the Goblet could not be "confused" by a simple confundus charm or other methods cast by a student. Barty Crouch Jr. was able to do it with great difficulty and he was already a powerful wizard. The confundus charm and similar spells affect people, animals, and objects with a degree of sentience. You cannot confuse something which has no thoughts.

I always presumed that the Goblet had a similar kind of intelligence as the sorting hat (though less profound) as it assesses the students putting their name into the Goblet, not the bit of paper itself. It was stated that the students were not allowed to enter someone else into the tournament and this may be why.
