- Hey friends!! I am here to try out another inexpensive watercolor brand. This one comes from Walmart. I am trying out the Royal & Langnickel Essentials Watercolor paints. I have the tube paints and the FlipKit.

My mom used to paint she used to say if you can make cheap paint look good your a true artist. I think they are great if your just starting and need to practice
I agree! I am a photographer and I say the same thing about cameras. It is nice to have a professional camera, but it's not necessary to create art.
Also... thanks for the tip about the separation. When I got these, I noticed that they're in a plastic tube. I'm wondering if I should squeeze them in the tube first to mix them up before putting them in pans.
I had a set of these in acrylics, they were pretty good considering how little they cost, love the reviews 🥰
I found the R&L tube watercolors to be kind of grainy, like with certain colors, the pigment wasn’t ground finely enough. ChatGPT suggested this is a sign of cheap, or student grade watercolor paint. Probably fine if you’re learning to paint, but personally, not sure I’d buy their watercolors again. I also have a set of their Acrylic paints, and I think those are better, no problem with them.
The binder in tube paint is different than pan paints. For obvious reasons: pans are not sealed and the panit would slosh everywhere in shipping or ant handling. That's why most tube paints perform better in application than the pans with heavier binders.
Ashley, appreciated your review. I have the flip paint palette and have been curious about how they measure up against an inexpensive brand of tube paints. Out of curiosity, have you noticed any cracks and curling of your flip paints? I bought an $18 set of about 40+plus flip paints, but about half of them have cracks and/or curl up from the plastic substrate. The pigment quality and range of colors in the flip set are fun, but I was annoyed with the issues above. Hope you and Kiley had a tasty lunch at Sonic…
I haven't had any cracks in the flip kit yet. I haven't had it very long, so I don't know if it will crack eventually. But so far so good.
My understanding is that the flip pallette sets are all 'white label' from "superior" brand. I got a set of the Doodle Hog 36 back when it was almost half the price of an empty tin, and it does the same thing.
$22?!?!! They're only $10 at my Walmart. I bought them 4 days ago. The 12 pack is $4.88
Right. I remember that is what caught my eye... $5 for 12 tubes! I had just picked up Yasutomo Chinese watercolor tubes for $10. How do you like them so far?
I literally just (about an hour ago) got this set at Walmart for $9.74 also.
👋 Hi there. I just found your channel and the old Royal and Langnickel grabbed my attention. I got a set for around $15 a short while ago, I'll have to look and see if the prices have gone up next time I'm at Walmart. I haven't opened mine yet and I'm dying to see what you think of them.

@aaliyahify That sounds about right... it probably was $10. Maybe it's more if you buy it online? IDK. It's ridiculous how much I love playing with cheap watercolors. They aren't precious, so I feel free to splash around and make big puddles and mix them up, and experiment. Cheers.
