@@sonicdihedgehog1 Nah though. You see, the arkham games are a Batman simulator. Spider-Man 2 makes you feel like Spider-Man for a little while but he's having an emotional crisis. Then the game makes you feel like Mary Jane several times and a deaf girl whose part was probably the most immersive. I feel deaf! Finally you get to feel like Miles Morales and Peter is finished with his own series after a game and a half.

The ending is a huge stretch. No one is gonna forget insomniac spiderman games when they have been critically acclaimed. If that was the case people wouldve forgot about spiderman 1 by now and retroactively called it mediocre. Yet thats just something we did not see.

I guess it depends on which character you like more. I played both Batman and Spiderman at the same time and I found Arkham games to be much worse. But I wont bash on Arkham I just am less fond of it

As someone who repeatedly plays the arkham games, and has played the Insomniac spiderman games a couple of times, i dont see why people compare the combat they are nothing alike.

exactly, sure there are some Arkham-like elements such as the automatic finishers (which is worse for it) and utilising the gadgets in combat and in stealth although not as prioritised as Arkham Batman but i don't see how ppl aren't realising that Insomniacs combat is directly inspired by Sam Raimi's SM2 and (primarily) SM3's combat system...
Exaclty and like, it makes more sense for Spider-Man to have a counter symbol, not to mention he had games way before the Arkham games with the spider sense

Honestly I think you gripe with the Spiderman games comes down to the foundation of the character and how that translates to gameplay more than the actual quality of the game. Spiderman is a superpowered hero batman isn't. This will make what is and what isn't a threat to both of them different. Besides I think the concept of "friendly neighbourhood Spiderman" And the "Protector in the shadows" Is what drives the different philosophies the most. Spiderman should be more light and upbeat and I think the gameplay reflects this very well. In the end to each their own ofcourse but I do think both franchises represent their source material very well and they are probably the best versions of what you could want for them. I find it difficult to imagine a game for Spiderman that would be more Spiderman than Insomniacs games.
Essentially that's what I meant. There are plenty of things you can do with Spiderman that don't need to boil down to a standard slap fight with a villain, something that the second game proves with Sandman and Mysterio. A part of it might come down to Batman having to be a little more grounded (since he's just a normal guy) which makes them have to come up with creative solutions for encounters with different villains or problems.

I feel the same way, lifelong Spider-Man fan, but the Insomniac games feel catered to mainstream audiences to the point where you can easily trivialize a majority of the challenge. Arkham you gotta earn the power fantasy, and it’s so much more rewarding. Everything is handcrafted and designed with purpose.

I wouldn't really consider Insomniacs SM game series to be labelled as 'great' - sure at the surface level, it might seem like it but once you break it down as an 'overall package' especially compared to previous Spider-Man games then it becomes notable that there should be more devs like SHABA games (RIP) to be developing on Spider-Man rather than Insomniac when it comes especially in regards to utilising its creative liberties for a Spider-Man game that previous devs have managed to properly capture

@@l.pricetag.5207gameplay isn’t that good, the soundtrack is basic in a lot more areas than it is great, the story for the last two games were progressively mid and terrible. You can’t compare something that strives to be great in every facet with a game that’s designed for hyping people up for the next big cameo/villain/story iteration without actual complexities in its design. The first game is great but the other two can only really be great by building on it, which is unfair however they didn’t even meet the bar to make an equivalent game and the took huge steps back in story and in some gameplay aspects like gadgets.
I saw a comment somewhere about someone who “ loves” these games, he said and I’m near quoting here, “ Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man game until Spider-Man 3 comes out” . It was already decided these games are gonna be great even when there getting worse with this new one. I feel bad for insomniac because with previous games they made people were objective with actual feedback but since everything is “ great “ with these games when it’s not they can’t actually make the “ best Spider-Man game”
Overall instead of just wanting your own Batman Arkham game for Spider-Man. You should want your own Spider-Man game that goes off of Spider-Man instead of taking a formula and half baking it for Spider-Man. Expect more and you get more. No Batman fan immediately said oh this Batman origins game is perfect even though it was copy pasted they criticized it for its issues despite still being great in its own right. So be better dude, don’t enjoy things blindly and I’m not saying don’t have fun but take a moment to realize why one thing is fun and one thing is it. Everyone forgot about Spider-Man games like a year after morales and everyone was saying it was better than this and perfect in everyway until they looked back and then just moved on.

Part 1: Gameplay
- First you say that "you can counter every attack and not engage with the rest of your arsenal, BUT... where is the fun in that?"
Then you complain about spiderman's air combat and how it takes you away from all the hazards
Well… you can just throw every single enemy in the air and avoid all hazards, but where is the fun in that?
- You complain about spiderman's mobility being "too effective" well what did you expect? He's a fast superhero with a spider-sense that warns him about hazards, it would contradict his character if he couldn't avoid damage. I can basically say the same about batman’s pseudo-spider sense that allows him to perfectly prevent every incoming attack, even from his back
- You mention that batman has a diversity of goons that require different play styles in order to defeat and then say that spiderman circumvents that with his air combat. You completely ignored the diversity of enemies in spiderman, you forgot the big guys who will block your attacks unless you cover them in web, and they cannot be thrown in the air, you forgot the enemies with whips that will slam you into the ground if you're in the air, you forgot enemies with shields, flying enemies with jetpacks that can counterattack and lay traps in the ground, enemies that throw molotovs and set the place in fire, enemies with body armor, special types of enemies that can avoid your attacks, etc.
- Then you mention that the AI is less aggressive, either you never touched the Ultimate difficulty or you are just blind. In the Ultimate difficulty you can barely finish a full basic combo because enemies keep shooting, punching and throwing grenades that you can only avoid
- 5:20 wth was that argument??? "Spiderman bad bc he fast, Batman good bc he uses brain"
- "Spiderman has boss fights without visual or mechanical flair" the fight Martin Li in the train, the mid air fight with Electro and Vulture, the fight with Rhino where you have to stun him using the environment, the 2nd fight with ML where you fight swarms of enemies while he summons a giant demon... And what's worse is that you then mention that batman has fights like that too. So what's the problem??? If they both have good and boring fights then what's the problem???
Part 2: Visuals and Aesthetics
- About the city design, I think the city being too idealistic makes the contrast with its late game appearance more distinct and impactful, that’s all
- About the enemies, you say that they are generic, not interesting and commit crimes of varying degrees of inconvenience. The enemies are very different from each other, they all have their own visual flairs and different voice lines and most of their crimes are different from each other
Fisk’s goons have the uniform of his industry obv, and they keep talking about how they have to be more cautious since sm put him in jail and how they’re gonna avenge him
Martin Li’s demons talk in chinese and have different masks designs and they have the ability to use ML energy. For their crimes they’re terrorist, they brutally attack the police and have trucks all around the city with explosives
Raft’s fugitives have the classic orange prisoner clothing and they talk about not going back to prison. They take hostages, set buildings on fire, they drive cars while shooting…
And Silver Sable’s forces have their own armor and they arrest civils from small to large scale
So saying, “oh they’re all the same” is pure bullcrap
- 13:03 Pretty hypocritical from you to complain about how it’s lame for Venom to be the final boss for the 2nd game, when literally in asylum, city and origins the final villain is/essentially the Joker
Part 4: The trend
- 16:48 Yeah a very difficult to describe and hard to diagnose problem because it doesn’t exist and you just want to say the game is bad because it is game that came out recently
- And now my favorite part 16:59
“These are modern action titles, and I’m going to explain what that is” * Shows 2 completely different games, says they’re very similar, barely even elaborates why, leaves * Simply brilliant
And then the explanation to what separates Batman from these other “Modern action games” is: “Omg he savagely assaults his enemies, he breaks bones and dislocates limbs” Truly the argument of the century

I hate these statements so much because they basically say nothing can be compared. You don't compare identical products, you compare similar but different things. Insomniac's Spider-Man definitely looked at the Arkham series. A lacking comparison would be comparing these games to World of Warcraft

Things I agree with
The Batman Arkham games feel more like a comic book than Marvel's Spider-Man.
Gotham is more interesting than New York.
Arkham Combat is better than Marvel's Spider-Man combat.
Though here's where I heavily disagree

The one thing that I completely don't understand your point on is when you brought up how basically they don't do detail outside of the story when they do.
Just like how Batman can visit his parent's grave and mourn. Peter and Miles can head to Aunt May and Jefferson Davis's graves which has different dialogue depending on the point you visit in the game.
You say Gotham has more detail but not a *single* Arkham Game has let you explore without civilians being evacuated or staying in their homes.
While with Spider-Man you can literally stop fighting crime and go do Yoga with Civilians, wave to people on the street, highfive them, hug them, and more. The city after every boss fight has permanent scars the sand from Sandman, the symbiote from Venom, the damage on Oscorp tower, The Roxxon building being rebuilt, and more
Not to mention you actually spend time as Peter going to work, hanging out with friends, and doing the normal things of his life this is compared to how with Batman you never play Bruce Wayne which does fit certain versions of the character where Batman is his true mask. Though it would be cool to attend a Gala as Bruce Wayne and maybe mingle with guest or whatever.
You also said that the game should be darker like Rami, but literally Insomniac's Spider-Man does the same exact thing they do. Spider-Man in the raimi moves jokes for the entire movie until the final fight. Which Insomniac's Spider-Man does and hell when Insomniac Spider-Man starts wearing the black suit he stops joking and becomes violent with his comments
What jokes did Peter make during any of the Kraven fights, Doc Ock, or for majority of the Venom Fight he literally does stop joking when things get serious.
The main reason why people loves the Insomniac Spider-Man so much is because the games are fun and the story is fresh. What other Spider-Man game can you can play a veteran Spider-Man who gets to mentor another Spider-Man fighting together.
There are so many details and interesting things in Insomniac 's Spider-Man that I just can't let you discredit.

Ok. So i have a few things to say real quick. There are many different ways to play Spider-Man, like you can play as a gadget based hero, which is the easiest approach, or aviod gadgets almost completely and just fight your way out of every situation, you can style on your enemies and find fun ways to take them out (Like how I feel Spider-Man would), and many more ways. I found that in the gameplay in this video you werent being very compitent and you mainly just stood there and shot a few webs, which is a valid strategy but it is the bare minimum. Albeit the games arent very hard but Spider-Man 2 on Ultimate difficulty gave me a bit more of a challenge. I propose a question, how many more hours have you put into the Batman games than the Spider-Man games? If you were actually trying to make both series seem at all interesting than I feel you shouldve spent a similar amount of hours on both for the least bias video. Not trying to cause an argument or anything, just saying what i felt.
Arkham games have more gameplay so by default, you would put in more hours in the Arkham games if you 100 percent it.
I disagree with just about every negative mentioned about spider-man, insomniacs spider-man games & the Arkham games are comic games at their peak, I prefer somethings more in the spider-man games & others in the Arkham games but both are incredible achievements in comic games.
Liking the Batman game because you like Batman more is fine. But acting like Spider-Man isn’t creative because it isn’t like Batman is ridiculous. Every time spiderman does something different from Batman you call it “following modern game design” and every time Batman can be differentiated it’s “staying true to the comics”. Also if you don’t like the tank missions there are games without it. However, there is no spider man game without the lame MJ / Peter Parker/ miles morales missions, which are way worse than The tanks.
As someone who played both games but couldn't get into the Arkham series I hate the fact that people always compared these two games instead of just equally enjoying what both brings both games are incredibly different and play different. Insomniac spiderman is the closest you will get to spiderman and Arkham is one of the best batman experience you can get while not being my favorite game to play. batman in my opinion wins on atmosphere however as a New Yorker Spiderman makes me feel like I'm actually home and that alone can just make me weep.

one of the best aspects of the arkham games, apart from combat, stealth and atmosphere, is the amount of detail there's SO MUCH detail in all the games its insane, it doesn't compare to something like rdr 2 but geez the arkham games are fucking amazing in that aspect.
Well made video, but I have to completely disagree. I love both the arkham games and the insomniac spiderman games, and they absolutely differ from one another despite the combat being based on fast paced agile beatdowns.
I really don’t think you can catalogue most modern video games as being developed with “modern video game philosophy”. Sure, your generic action shooter game that almost no one knows about might be what you’re speaking of, but it doesn’t happen with these kind of games. Videogames always followed a formula, and they’re not supposed to be full-on simulators, unless you’re talking about, say, a racing game or a trucker sim. It’s incredibly difficult to recreate a comic book 1-1. It’s like actually trying to recreate a faithfull god of war game. It would be absolutely boring, as Kratos would just one-shot everything he comes across, without even posing a challenge to him.
Perhaps it’s just me, but I don’t see how jedi survivor and the spiderman games as well as the arkham series are anything alike. In arkham, you’re batman. You’re a regular (although peak) human. You can’t do excesively flashy things, as what you have to do is utilize batman’s wide arrange of gadgets and creativity to defeat multiple villains, which are represented quite well and faithfull to the comics. In jedi survivor you’re put in a completely different scenario, with many iconic locations and planets from the star wars saga, beautiful landscapes, a creative and broad amount of fauna and your ability to combat against the empire, not with gadgets and brutal punches, but with a special sense of brutality as you can slice through stormtroopers with your lightsaber. Gameplay feels completely different, you can’t glide through the planet, you have to utilize the force to traverse through it, facing whatever comes across you with a combination of jedi skills. Using the force to throw items or attract enemies to use as a shield or rather to impale them is just the tip of the iceberg. Not even mentioning the usage of multiple styles of lightsabers to fit your favorite playstyle.
The spiderman insomniac games are also completely different. You see, shattered dimensions feels more “video-gamey” (which i personally don’t see as a bad thing, you know you’re paying to play a videogame right?) as it has a completely linear progression through levels. The insomniac spiderman games won’t play like batman as spiderman is a completely different hero. He doesn’t rely on stealth as much, as why hide from guy with guns when you can dodge bullets? It might not feel as brutal but that’s also kind of the point, peter always holds back. In the second game, you can play as two spidermen. Miles is more carefree, swinging through the city as a teenager would, and having an edge over certain villains and the symbiote because of his electric powers, which make him unique. Peter relies on his tech and webs, as well as his superior strength and experience. Batman will not fight mid-air because he can’t. It’s also kind of the players responsibility to make gameplay “feel good”. In the arkham games you can just sit there countering or do simple combos while jumping over the enemies heads just like how you can keep punching the bad guys in insomniacs spiderman game. Spiderman is a swift and agile combatant, and therefore he relies on his spider powers to win. He can, against all laws of physics, impulse himself to the side while hovering mid-air, stick to walls to impulse himself and attack as well as his multiple web gadgets. Hell, his fighting style changes to be more brutal and powerful when he gets the symbyote and, as it consumes him, he stops holding back, resembling batman in some way. Swinging through the city, specially with swing assist deactivated feels like you must actually control spidey when he swings and reminds me of the ps2 spiderman 2 web swinging.
The game is filled with details and love, so I truly cannot understand where you get your idea that the game is just a shitty release to make money and nothing more. Both games explored the difficulty peter has in sustaining his spider persona while also being peter parker. Both games constantly put both his lives on a line, making him decide wether he wants to keep protecting the city, even if it costs him his job, his friends and his family. The visuals are stunning, and although the arkham series take an amazing approach by recreating a dystopian city filled with criminal gangs you could also say it’s cliche and repetitive. It’s completely subjective and I personally think both approaches are fine. Not every single game happens in new york, and it’s obviously spiderman’s home town. (They’re not gonna make a spiderman game in australia lol). The city also has been made to feel alive, sometimes in some arkham games you feel completely alone and that it is filled with only criminals (which is actually kind of the point) but in the spiderman 2 game you genuinely feel like spiderman.
Sure you use your super powers to beat the crap out of criminals and swing through the city but you would be surprised to see how many little side quests involve doing mundane stuff that a normal human could do. The game is filled with interactions with normal people, and THAT is what defines spiderman. Exactly that is why i believe the game is made with actual love, and isn’t your typical “modern action game”. Being spiderman is also helping the people around you however you can, even if it involves saving a cat that cannot get down from a tree. That is what differentiates spiderman from batman, and why I think insomniac took good care of what i believe is the best spiderman games there are right now. Boss fights are also not just punch the bad guy till he drops, having the scorpion and rhino fights as an example from the first game. Peter also has multiple inner demons he has to fight against, he just handles it way different to how bruce does, and these games portray it perfectly. The interaction and final fight between peter and otto in the first game is brilliant, building a relationship since the beginning that one ends up using as leverage against the other, climaxing in a final fight that also carries emotional weight.
And let’s not even speak about venom. The devs took the liberty to make it the most absurd and broken version of the character to exist, and it also makes sense. You’re fighting a literal alien. It’s now immune to fire, something the devs took extra care to explain when harry says he wasn’t bothered by it while wearing the suit. These little details are not in any game, and goes to show that insomniac took good care of the games, and plans on expanding even further. They didn’t create another cheap knockoff game, they took time to create a world, build upon it and recreate spiderman as faithfully as possible. There are multiple ways to play the game, multiple possibilities in combat, not just “punching a guy in the air and combo him there”. The combat also heavily differs when you control venom. Talk about being brutal and fearsome.
So no, I don’t think this series will be forgotten and buckled up into the same old 3d action game blob, I think you are absolutely wrong. If web of shadows didn’t, the insomniac games will never as well. 5 years post release, people still talk about how spiderman ps4 was the best representation of spiderman in videogames, and was incredibly fun, only dethroned by the sequel. There’s also a third game in the making, and it’s success doesn’t derive from lack of competition. The arkham games didn’t have much competition in their genre now didn’t they? Superhero games, at least good ones, are scarce. Only batman and spiderman have good games. If you’re talking about general competition in video games, this year released some of the best video games right now.
So no, it’s not because of that, it’s not because of “twitter people that don’t actually play games” (that is a broad generalization, most people in social media that played and liked spiderman 2 or the ps4 one actually play videogames, why else would they have consoles and actually post about multiple games) and I believe 10 years from now people are still going to remember and love the insomniac spiderman games.
Batman arkham could also have been considered your usual modern philosophy beat em up game, but as I explained with spiderman and just how i could with batman the details and the specific gameplay to suit the character is what makes them different. Now if you don’t like it, perhaps you just don’t like having superpowers to fight in the air, use multiple different webbing and gravitational gadgets, electric powers, metalic arms and an alien symbiote.
Cataloging most games nowadays as “modern philosophy greedy games” just seems to me like you need some nostalgia goggle removals. There are multiple new and old gen gems in gaming, and spiderman 2 also didn’t triumph because there is nothing else to play. Aside from gow ragnarok, the new horizon game and a couple other exclusives, you can still play most recent games there in your ps5. Exclusives aren’t the only thing you can play there. Also, that same mentality would be like saying re4 and re2 remakes are just cheap copies to cash in, when in reality the amount of details and the love put into those two are amazing, feeling like completely different games to the source material.
I feel like you should pay more attention to details in games you might not like too much, specially since a lot of people, due to one gameplay similarity, start comparing both sagas and saying the one you like the least is superior. I like both of them, and they’re both equally amazing and drastically different. Most new big releases loved by most have multiple reasons behind it, and since spiderman 2 and it’s predecessor have such high and good reviews, i hope you can look at the game (and many others) with a different approach. Don’t compare two games and say one is better because it has something the other doesn’t when in reality the characters, their world and their structure is entirely different, as you could say the exact same of the other. Rather, it’s better if you genuinely see the pros and cons of each one individually, and learn to look at the small details of each as well as learning more about and paying more attention to the source material and its philosophy. Appreciate it if you read through this bible and I hope i made you look at things in a different manner :)

You complaining about Spider-Man having air combos is so wild. Not trying to be like argumentative…but…do you actually LIKE Spider-Man? This seems like you just prefer a Batman game to a Spider-Man game. Though, I agree about the AI and the gadgets are pretty overdone. I feel like they should’ve had more web combat (not gadgets just ways Spidey uses his webs) because I’ll be honest what we got has always been a big gripe with me. Don’t get me wrong, I will never stop loving Arkham. But, these games are very different. The Arkham mechanics DO NOT work with every hero. I gotta disagree with your takes on these games, I played only Arkham Knight in the Arkham series and I know this title is considered the worst inside this series, but it was an incredible game to play and I'm pretty sure I would love the other games in the series, however, I have to say that your takes sound like the ones that a person who didn't give much time to the Spiderman games of Insomanic would give or a person who doesn't understand what Spiderman is, Spiderman stories were never supposed to be really serious, after all, he is a hero that never stops talking or quipping and these games do know when to get serious on right the moments and there are a lot of points of Peter's personal life conflicting with his Spider problems showed in this game, about the combat systems although both series share similarities it's completely different, Arkham is more about being precise and read the flow of the battle and Spider is more about the freedom you have to attack the enemies in many different ways, but that doesn't mean that Spiderman's combat is brain dead since if you're not careful you can die, especially in the second game having parry mechanics similar to souls like games and about the boss fights I really don't feel like that it's needed a specific environment interaction to the boss fights, I think straight up direct fights with the bosses are more entertaining, because the bosses I experienced in Arkham Knight and the ones I saw on other games felt more like puzzles rather than a fight and I know that is because Batman has to fight superpowered beings while not being superpowered so he has to use strategy to beat them, but these fights could have the strategies while also having direct approaches to the boss and in the Spiderman games the fights being direct 1on1s reflects on how good and used to the combat you are, making you have a learning curve to the combat, something that I don't see in the Arkham games since the boss fights almost never put your skills in the combat on practice because you constantly have to do damage to the bosses through indirect ways, there are other takes that I disagree, but they are smaller compared to what I mentioned in this comment

I’m sorry but the combat in the Spider-Man insomniac games I believe are far superior than the Arkham combat system. Why? Because there is more to do in the combat and I mostly call the shots during the combat. In Arkham combat you are just bashing the combat button and flipping over until you get the finisher. In the Spider-Man combat there is more to do and I make more distractions to war the enemies that makes the fighting more advantageous on my part.
Why doesn't spiderman the happy go lucky guy that has terrible things happen to him but he makes jokes and tries to stay a good person overall not play and act like probably the most mentally fucked up superhero ever😭😭😭
I played both game series: Batman Arkham and Marvel's Spider-Man and BOTH of them are AMAZING at their own ways!
The Arkham franchise makes you FEEL like the Batman: A vigilant that is feared and fearless, which makes it awesome.
And Insomniac Spider-Man makes you feel like a real hero: A responsible warrior that is always willing to do anything to protect your city, which makes it great.
I only wish Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would be better... The first Marvel's Spider-Man was simply the BEST Spider-Man game ever made, so I had my hopes for the second game on the clouds. But in the end it wasn't a Spider-Man game, it was just Miles Morales game with MJ parts... While the REAL and BEST Spider-Man was left aside (Peter Parker).
Despite that disappointment, I still enjoyed Marvel's Spider-Man 2 like any other Spider-Man game. It wasn't even close of what it could've been, but it wasn't a bad game at all. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 maybe mediocre in some aspects, but not the "trash" people are calling it.
With that said, I just want to point two things: Many people still call the Arkham franchise "the best superhero franchise in videogame history" and, quite frankly, it's hard to disagree on that. But I also gotta say: Marvel's Spider-Man franchise had A LOT of potential to compete with the Arkham franchise... If only Insomniac wasn't such a lazy and Woke developer.
I'm so glad for enjoying the two videgame series, instead of wasting my time being a fanboy on the Internet. After all, Batman *and* Spider-Man have always been my two favorite heroes.

Great video. If you would, I'd like for you to clarify on one thing you said. You mentioned the later Arkham games start to suffer from the modern game trends too. In what way exactly? I still remember Arkham Knight quite fondly despite people's fee complaints.

The later games are a bit more lacking in the same creativity that Asylum and City had, particularly the clumsy implementation of things like the Batmobile. I think the most obvious example though is Gotham Knights which is ostensibly the successor to the Arkham games. It plays exactly how I described "Modern Action Titles" playing down to a tee, which is really disappointing.

This is a well put together video but I'd personally disagree with you in a lot of places. I think The Insomniac games more "Video Gamey" combat is way more fun than the Arkham combat, which I find to be pretty barebones especially in Arkham Asylum and City. Something about it just feels a little bit stiff, still fun and I think it was gone by Arkham Knight, but it just didn't flow like Spider-Mans combat did for me. If you like more grounded combat I can see why you would like the Arkham combat better, but for me Spider-Mans combat is leagues better. It lets you flip and slide around, fling guys 40 feet away, whack someone way up into the air, bounce him off of the ground back towards you and swing kick him, and use awesome powers like the Electricity Powers and the Symbiote Suit. For me it feels like Insomniacs combat actually lets you have fun, where Arkham combat didn't want to be too unrealistic. And maybe you're just way better than me but I found the Insomniac games to be a good challenge on hard mode especially in the later parts of the games.
One area I do agree in is that Arkham stealth is better than Spider-mans stealth, especially in comparison to Spider-Man 2 although I would say that's not a good comparison as Spider-Man 2 moved away from stealth overall.
As for boss fights I'd also disagree that Arkham was better. Now to be fair I haven't played Origins so I won't be including that in any of these opinions but I think the Spider-Man boss fights are much more engaging. I'd say that every Boss fight in Asylum is either boring or just straight up bad. Solomon Grundy was mechanically extremely simple. Ra's Al Ghul was really cool and Mr. Freeze is an amazing fight. And while I'm not claiming that Spider-Man 1 boss fights are mechanically complex, they make up for it in visual flare. I will claim that Spider-Man 2s boss fights are mechanically engaging and were incredible boss fights on hard mode for me at least.

Idk what kind of argument this is and this honestly makes me doubt if you ever took time to properly play Spider-Man because it does the exact same thing. In Spider-Man 1 the city crime criminals can either be Regular thugs, Mr. Negatives Demons, escaped Ryker's convicts or Silver Sable Agents. In Spider-Man 2 they could be Kraven's Hunters, Cultists, or Venomized Citizens.
"You know the final bad guy is probably gonna be Venom or some kind of symbiote but instead they pretend like Kraven is actually the big deal opponent." That's because he was. This game's story is split into 2 arcs, the first focusing on Kraven and the second, Venom. Spider-Man 1 did the exact same thing with the first half focusing on Mr. Negative and the second half the Sinister Six. That's just how Insomniac does their stories. The Arkham games focus on one villain the whole time because in each game there's only one story. Insomniacs Spider-Man games have two stories each which makes for a longer game that has more content than it would have otherwise. IMO Insomniacs games feel like they wanted to tell a normal Spider-Man story that just so happened to be presented in a game. Arkham Asylum's story felt like it only existed as an excuse to have a video game to play through, with plot points like Titan which clearly only exists so you can fight Joker at the end and not have it be a one sided fight. Arkham Knight's story felt the same way, but in some ways even worse as some parts drag on for so long for absolutely no reason. The game makes you wait 14 hours for the single most predictable plot twist ever (Arkham Knight is Jason Todd). In addition to that, Arkham Knight's story was just really bad in general even excluding the awful pacing, with retard plotpoints like Batman turning into the Joker. Arkham City was the only game where it felt like they actually wanted to tell a good story, although even that was very short. Again haven't played Origins.
I'd disagree that Spider-Man doesn't have emotional range. There's lots of moments where the tone is no BS completely serious. And Spider-Man is supposed to be a "quippy mess" that's how the character's been since the 60's. If you don't like that then you just don't like Spider-Man and that's fine, but you cant fault the game for being accurate to the source material. And if you ask me the biggest problem with the Raimi films is how little Spider-Man jokes around which is kind of his whole thing. But don't get me wrong I love Spider-Man 1 and 2 by Raimi.
I also disagree that the Insomniac games will be forgotten anytime soon. Time will tell but these games are huge at the moment with more buzz than almost every other game coming out right now, but at the end of the day there's no real way of knowing as of right now.
When it comes down to it it's just personal preference. I enjoyed hearing the opinions of someone so different than mine.
I'd say nearly all the bosses in these games (except spiderman 2) are mediocre at best, we're not gonna forget how most of the times it's just using one gadget against a boss

I didnt like Arkham Asylum at first but that was because I tried to play it like it was Insomniacs Spider-Man. Going for one criminal until hes knocked out then move onto the next criminal, but i realised my combo meter wasnt going up and the thugs werent staying down. It wasnt until 3/4 into Asylum that I understood the flow of combat. Combat in Arkham games are about the flow and less about actually beating up everyone. Once you learn how to weave in gadgets it becomes even more fun. It is possible to play super effective and knock everyone out real fast, but only "high level" people do that. It's more fun to just beat up everyone like normal

Are you really trying to discredit his arguement by calling him a batman fanboy? At least come back with some proper criticisms. While the batmobile is way too invasive in arkham knight, they drastically improved basically everything in terms of gameplay by providing more options in stealth and combat as well as a basically perfect free flow system. Insomniacs spiderman has definitely improved on traversal through their games but the combat hasnt really improved across the trilogy unlike arkham knight which was a major step up in gameplay and more interesting to watch. I havent played any insomniac spiderman games so i cant say arkham knight plays better. But your point just doesnt have much weight to it when you actually look into it

Arkham Knight's Batmobile is pretty fun to drive, but outside of that it's pretty poorly implemented. It get's used for combat and riddle stuff too much instead of just getting to be it's own thing which really detracts from it.

I agree with this take . Completely Arkham games have another level of detail in them while Spider-Man games just don’t really feel that . Imo opinion the Spider-Man games feel like they are almost trying to mimic the arkham recipe . It’s not bad but it doesn’t feel like anything too creative .
Spiderman copies other spiderman games if you have seen the Amazing spiderman 1 and 2 the combat system is basically the same but a bit better

Honestly, I'd day Isomoniacs Spiderman 1 has one of the best written stories and characters for a super hero game. Batman is cool and badass, but all his allies in the arkham games felt very one note. I hate MJ stealth sections. But MJ has more development going for her than Catwoman and Talia and Oracle. Poor Barbera. She gets crippled for life and she doesn't really get any development outside of being snother tool plot device for Batman to use. At least MJ does her own thing.

I disagree with you, I've played the Arkham Trilogy and all the Insomniac Spider-Man games and Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor and I think that they are all equal in quality. I think Insomniacs Spider-Man games have better stories, but I do agree with you about the settings.

Theres points i dissagree with but i do think a difference between the two is the batman games is about the batman experience and spiderman is playing as spiderman.

I'm loving my arkham switch trilogy, making my way through asylum and it's just so beautiful. I have spidermans on ps5, and I'm telling you there's something I adore way more about shadow of mordor, war and also the arkham games. Maybe it's a preference of character and overall spiderman is just too goodie good for me.
Shadow of Mordor is pretty great too, I always enjoyed it back in the day.

I was excited about this analysis at first, because I genuinely think the Arkham games are more enjoyable than the Spiderman games for varying reasons. Unfortunately the points you make aren't very strong or compelling.
Many of your criticisms of Spiderman seem to be in bad faith. You would be better off framing this video as an explanation of why you prefer the Arkham games, and not that they're inherently any better than Spiderman.
Spider-Man is the more fun game. The Batmobile in Arkham Knight is the reason I refuse to play that game further. But overall Spider-Man games draw more fans than Batman games.
You can say Batman is more complicated, but the Arkham games appeal to less people. Just like how Arkham Knight is more detailed than Final Fantasy 7 Remakes, but Arkham Knight is an uglier game so Final Fantasy looks better and more appealing to most gamers

i like the arkham games more, but spiderman has better boss fights and combat and enemy variety. The fact that you can do air combos in spiderman makes its combat better.

While Origins isn't available on modern consoles and Arkham knight is held back by its tank fights. Also Spiderman sold more.....and has higher reviews on metacritic and steam.....You are just blinded by nostalgia
Shadow of Mordor and the Arkham games are not related in any way. Rocksteady is a subsidiary of WB Games, who also happen to own Monolith Productions, the people behind Shadow of Mordor. No one really looks at the Arkham games, and goes, "hey isn't that made by WB games", they always recognize Rocksteady as the creators of these games. Still a good video, just a small error that bugged me.
What I'm really hoping is that in Spider-Man 3 they really go more in on the free flow aspect of the combat. The main thing that makes Spider-Man combat feel worse than Batman is that you kind of feel like it's a video game you have to do a combo on this guy then go over here to do a combo on this guy and it's you know a certain amount of hits that you have to do on each guy, whereas in Batman it's a free flow your jumping from enemy to enemy and the better you do the stronger your punches are so you can start taking people out easier and it all just feels like one big fight and you're not taking turns beating up each guy individually
I personally don’t think he should because Spider-Man already did free flow combat with TASM 1 and 2 it wasn’t really successful especially with the 2nd one and going back to combat style that already didn’t work for him wouldn’t really make sense.
@KingM3634 well the combat isn't what made those games bomb. In fact when I watch videos about spiderman games, they actually usually compliment the combat of tasm1 but hate the swinging, amd liked it again in tasm2 but hate the hero menace system.
I completely agree with you that the combat wasn’t bad in TASM 1 and 2.But having one combat system in 2 games in then going back to free flow out of nowhere wouldn’t make sense.
But don’t get me wrong if the 3rd did go back to free flow I would still buy it and most likely enjoy it
@@KingM3634 I just hope the third improves on the stealth. I can't believe they all but removed it. I know it wasn't very deep but they could have really improved on it and made it a lot more fun
