@@HappyElectricity They keep the pads from rubbing against the rotor when the pedal is not depressed. Thus, preventing premature wear of the pads. Some pads sets do not come with them and also some people leave them off their brakes. The tricky part is when they are new and are very strong springs is keeping them from forcing the pads apart too far and they come out of the caliper. A helper will make this easier. 4 hands are better than 2 here.
