Man! This was the best instructional video. I'm no mechanic, but I sure feel accomplished and so does my daughter! We wanted to replace the brakes and rotors on our own for a 2015 Civic. The tight nature of a small car brought it's own challenges, but three hours later and the car brakes like new. We replaced both front brake pads and rotors and the first one took the longest because, well it was the first. The second one was a breeze and went so fast. The video did an excellent job explaining the what and the why and gives me confidence to take on other car work.

I've always used a C clamp and block of wood to spread out the pressure, that's what all the mechanics used when I was growing up. Had no idea they actually made a tool for it.
Nick D that's what I was saying in my head all I need is the tools because there's no way to pay the dealership $715 which I just got mine replaced from a friend I saved $460 because my front rotors and break pads cost about $255. So yeah dealership are horrible they can only fool person who for the first time has no idea that this video shows you can do it! Lol
Great videos Chris, tackled this job on my 2006 Ranger a few weekends ago and will be replacing my shocks this weekend. Just wanted to leave a comment to potentially help someone else out, doing the clamshell method could potentially bend the brake hardware and cause it to not fit well and scrape against the rotor when you are all done. I had to completely remove the caliper from the mounting bracket to avoiding bending the hardware.
Going to a friend's house to change my pads and rotors in a couple days. He's going to be my backup in case I run into an issue, but with this video, I'm feeling pretty confident. Thank you so much!

I just wanted to say thank you for the super helpful video. My brakes didn't go as planned. I ended up buying a new set of pins and everything else happened just like the video shows. Love my Mazda B3000. Thanks again Chris.
Nice video, thanks Chris! One comment, be sure to clean both sides of the brake rotor with Brake Clean before installing it. You can just spray them in the cardboard box that they came in. Chris only cleaned the front side of the brake rotor. He should have cleaned the back side as well.

Chris... I have watched dozens of rotor videos specifically for my car and none of them have EVER mentioned Locktite on those bolts. That would explain why I have had a hellish time trying to break mine with a regular old ratchet 😂 I will give this a try with my new breaker bar I ordered this weekend. Thanks man!
I know how to do all of this but is just for all of the small stuff that you learn. I’ve been using high temperature grease and never thought to use silicone for the guide pins! Great video!

Do you know what that tool is called?
So this is what they wanted to charge me $250 for? I could've done this shit myself it's so easy. Fool me once...
OrganicChemistry2 ahhahah 😂😊😊😊 yeppp fucking dealerships
As long as you have the right tools, no problem.
Lol
OrganicChemistry2 Same thing happen to me. Now i just watch youtube and learn everything and do it myself

Thanks for sharing!
Going to a friend's house to change my pads and rotors in a couple days. He's going to be my backup in case I run into an issue, but with this video, I'm feeling pretty confident. Thank you so much!
Chris, I can't simply can't comprehend what makes you show this invaluable vehicle repair, If I may say so, many people will gain from your virtue For me it's a mere bonus figuring days how to fit the thick shoe brakes between the Rims of the Drum Brakes. God knows what is next+ Thank you.
best video I've seen yet. Thanks for details on where the Silicon grease goes. Well done, dude!
+Kristopher Gregory Thanks a lot!
Blessings unto knowledge to all those reading this..in Jesus mighty name amen
i have a question, how do you knw the amount of pounds to torque to
+kyle gorman check your owners manual. Or buy those Haynes manual book. You can also do a quick search on the internet. Sometimes some forums might have that information. Hope that helps.
+Supraw does actually thanks
If you were really In a pinch, you could use a 12" wrench, and put an 85lb weight on the very end of it :D
Thanks man, video made it simple to change out pads. Saved $200, and as recommended put $100 a side for tools and $100 for funsies. 2021 and these videos still apply perfectly.
Hello Chris, I just changed my brakes and rotors on my 05 Dodge caravan. thanks to this guide I felt confident enough to do it! Thank you.
Pump your brakes when you’re all done before you take off !
Make sure you pump your brakes after you're done installing everything oready elsee your brakes may not work
Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, I always change my brakes but one day I got to comfortable about I can soo it all and forgot to pump the Brakes, dam near Hit My Wife's Van A few Feet back...
Frank Solomon WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY PUMP MY BRAKES? LIKE ACTUALLY SIT IN THE CAR AND STEP ON THE BREAKS??
@@SENSUI347 yes. After you've pushed the piston back to fit new pads it is no longer up against the back of the pad. Pump or push the pedal several times to bring it back to the back of the pad. Otherwise put your foot on the pedal and the piston still isn't touching it = No brakes
@@skiphaskell706 Do this while the cap is still off the brake fluid reservoir or back on?
Short sweet and direct. Thanks for being thorough and to the point
Michael Cantu No problem Michael! Glad the video was helpful! Definitely consider subscribing! New automotive "how to" videos every Thursday and most Mondays!
Thanks Chris fix, I watched this video years ago and have saved hundreds for me and my family doing countless brake jobs over the years.
I just wanted to say thank you for the super helpful video. My brakes didn't go as planned. As the last person who worked on them stripped the driver's side caliper bolts and slider pins so bad it took two day and a hacksaw to finally get them off. I ended up buying a new set of pins and everything else happened just like the video shows. Love my Mazda B3000. Thanks again Chris.
did a 95 Camry with no torque wrench. Wonder if the brakes will fall off
pikiwiki did the brakes ever fall off?
j0bbers yeah he died
Nice video, thanks Chris!
One comment, be sure to clean both sides of the brake rotor with Brake Clean before installing it. You can just spray them in the cardboard box that they came in. Chris only cleaned the front side of the brake rotor. He should have cleaned the back side as well.
I hope I have enough man power to do this💪🏽😁. I can't afford to pay someone to replace my brake pads and rotors
Aye Janay ...come do mine after you're done with yours lol.
how did it go?
were you able to get it done?
on disability front brakes sound stuck especially in reverse I bought front pads can't afford to have it done HELP
@@PatrickWagz Nah she tried,. Brakes failed and she ended up dying. That's why she never responded
do you want to be my girlfriend
This is the best video to learn how to change brakes.
Thanks for making a video on how to replace a rotor and brake pads. As a rookie auto technician this will definitely help me when it comes to doing this specific task in the shop. Your the man👍for uploading helpful instruction videos related to automotive.
Had to come see this, been over 15 years since i changed brakes myself. Gonna do 1 of my rears tomorrow and my fronts in about a week. Thanx, very helpful although to remove the caliper bracket you need a torx 50 to remove the 2 bolts, fucken ford and their torx !lol
This should just slide right off 2:25 😅😅😅😂
Never that easy.
Awesome video dude! :D
Bro! I seriously look up specifically YOU when ever I am trying to fix my truck! You are the best of the best and I am all about it!
THE BEST REPAIR VIDEO I HAVE COME ACROSS...SIMPLE STRAIGHT FORWARD...WELL DONE CHRIS...
Bug at 0:24 disappears and then reappears at 0:31
moztek nice takeaway

I am changing my breaks and rotors today to save money! This helps TREMENDOUSLY! ! ! Thank you! !!
2001? video is released on 911? coincidence?
ILLUMANTAI !!! CONFIRMED
Nah, he has a Porsche.
I'm really happy that you showed how to proprely lubricate the breaks you even put the right lubricant ! Most people don't know about this
You should be youtubes official mechanic bro. Your videos are unbelievable. Thank you
I like your clear instruction and your clear step on how to do these things and as an automotive student, this will help me in the future so thanks. Keep up the good work.
Sir... if I was around your area I would invite you a few beers for this.. thanks a lot, you just helped me do it on my own and saved me from having to pay for it haha
good job !
+Ronnie M. I'm glad the videos are helpful! That's awesome!
This is by far the best explanation video about brake pads replacement i have seen. Too bad i did my sportage pad's change before y saw this video. Now i understand a lot more.
I admire that you make your videos outside your garage as opposed to other videos which make it only in a repair shop with expensive tools me and you have automotive channels and are viewers have their problems outside their home not in the repair shop and that's what we should cater to when we make these videos and of course you can't buy expensive scanners and scopes for the average consumer who's watching the video I admire you
One thing I appreciate about your videos is that how you consistently do a good job on your products and how you work a lot of mechanics wouldn't even do half of the little things you did with reason certain ball nuts and screws but great video great job
Thanks for your help. I find your videos very helpful and educational. Spending the weekend changing my break pads and rotors. Its fun to do it yourself. It saves money and you learn how to fix things yourself.
This was a super good video man. I like how you showed everything clearly, explained what tools I'd need, and explained things to watch out for. Very nice indeed.
+duhboss1 thanks a lot
I like your edits Chris. You did this in record time. Good job.

Chris great video! My Son's Nissan needs new front pads. I can't thank you enough for doing these videos. I a certain I can tackle this job after watching this. Thanks, Pete
Sept 25th (I think) 2017. Just followed this to a T on my 09 Saturn view. Only slight difference is it has one piston not 2. Awesome job. Subscribed. Well done.
Super video!!! Step by step... right to the meat... no story-telling. Great job! Very Professional.
Thanks, this helped a lot! I've been hearing that squealing sound from the indicator for about three months now! I think I'll finally replace the brake pads tomorrow.
One of the best instructional videos I've seen. Well done.
Finally a video that I can actually comprehend and understand thank you Chris I feel like I can do my breaks by myself now
You present things so easily for anyone to understand, also your videos are great, clear and concise , thank you.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I was initially intimidated to change my own brakes but after watching video I realized it was relatively easy, which it was.
I had put my own brakes on this time and this video helped me out a lot. Thanks Chris.
I like clear detailed instructions because I have saved a ton of money just fixing my car myself.
Very good video . It was the right amount of time , the instructions were simple/clear .
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked the instructions!
