Everyone forgets that 9/11 was only a few months before the PATRIOTS were in SB36. We were truly America's team that year and everyone was rooting for us. Can't say the same is true now but it is important to make the distinction for those that were not watching then and didn't have the context
Seriously miss getting out of church on Sundays growing up and catching the first few minutes of the Pats game on the radio on the car ride home listening to Gil's voice. Guy just set the tone for football Sundays in New England
Of course I didn't hear this call live, was hearing the TV broadcast, but I remember being young and tuning in to the radio to hear Gil cause there was no TV broadcast cause of some weird blackout rule...yes believe it or not, home Patriot games were not televised some time, wtf
Shit, hearing Gil goes back to when I was a kid and he was the only place we could hear or watch or anything else because of the blackout rules at the time. SO GLAD he was able to call the first three championships. Damn, I miss that voice.
Miss these guys, I didn't have tv that year, being young and just married but I listened to every game, I was the only one around my circles who knew what the Patriots were doing, the fact they had the Rams beat earlier in t he year gave me hope, I knew Brady was special, hearing every game from these was absolutely the best, WHAT A GAME
My niece was doing sound on the sidelines for WBCN that season and at the Superbowl. Drew Bledsoe landed at her feet after being hit by Mo Lewis. (Red shirt holding the dish mike.)
If you understand the mediocre history of the Patriots from 1960-2000, you realize the importance of Gil saying It's Good and The Patriots are Super Bowl Champions 2x each was necessary so people would know they weren't dreaming
Agree. Every now and then I come back to this video just to hear this. Was 12 years old when the Patriots won and 97 was my first time going to a game. Love Gil Santos.
I got chatting with my 8 year old son about the 2001 Patriots. I told them about 6th round Tom Brady coming in after franchise QB and mega contract Drew Bledsoe was almost killed in a sideline hit by Mo Lewis in week 2. It was the hit that altered the course of Patriot and NFL history forever. I had to come and watch this again, it’s been so long it’s easy to forget how absolutely incredible that season was to watch unfold each week.
I remember crushing beers with my buddies during halftime saying They may just win thing fuckin' thing! And they did, what a great night that was, who knew what would follow.
That game sure erased a lot of bad memories - particularly of the '76 divisional playoff game and the phantom RTP call against Sugar Bear Hamilton. I was 8 (almost 9) and I thought my dad was going to blow a gasket. Awful.
Gill and gino. Are in . ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN. LISTEN TO THE 1974 RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS VERSION OF ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN AND THINK OF GIL AND GINO. R.I.P GUYS .
RIP Gil Santos. He will forever be in our memories for some of the greatest moments in Patriots history. My condolences to Gino's family and Patriots everywhere.
still remember this call. I was 8 at the time. Although I had watched football before this, the 2001 season/post-season was the first season I have memories of.
Never knew that. Course I was 7 when I watched Super Bowl 36 and I've never been one to watch the Halftime Show. My Favorite Super Bowl in NFL History!
I miss WBCN so much. I’m glad I still get to listen to Toucher and Rich. RIP to the one and only, Patriots Rock Radio Network.
Man. Back when the Patriots were the "underdog." Seems like it was lifetimes ago.

Twenty years ago today.....still sounds awesome!
The Best... Gil Santos.
Best voice in radio history.
Facts bro

And Bob Socci second.
RIP Gino
I miss the fall afternoons being outside listening to his voice. Great memories!
Can you post Santos' calls of Superbowl XXXVIII vs. the Panthers?
Shit, hearing Gil goes back to when I was a kid and he was the only place we could hear or watch or anything else because of the blackout rules at the time. SO GLAD he was able to call the first three championships. Damn, I miss that voice.

I don't care if it sounds sped up. It's like cocaine. It's such a rush lol
Gil will be missed
Even more now. Gil sadly passed away today (4/19/2018) at the age of 78. RIP Mr. Santos
Gil and Gino where the best. Zolak eats corn the long way.
My niece was doing sound on the sidelines for WBCN that season and at the Superbowl. Drew Bledsoe landed at her feet after being hit by Mo Lewis. (Red shirt holding the dish mike.)

RIP Gil. One of the few elite broadcasters in NFL history.
ALL OF NEW ENGLAND will miss Gil. IMO the best radio call in PATRIOTS history!

2:25 I still get chills and my eyes tear up. Tremendous call by Mr Santos

Agree. Every now and then I come back to this video just to hear this. Was 12 years old when the Patriots won and 97 was my first time going to a game. Love Gil Santos.
Antowain Smith, JR Redmond & Kevin Faulk were HUGE in this game! Each had clutch 1st down conversions!
the godfathers of the greatest dynasty in American sports history
I’m a 30 year man from right outside of Boston and this gives me chills to this day
Beautiful Day was the first song that U2 played during this Super Bowl's halftime show. For a lot of Patriots' fans, it carries that memory.

If all we got was the 2001 team, I would have been satisfied...that team left such an impression on me at 7 years old...
That game sure erased a lot of bad memories - particularly of the '76 divisional playoff game and the phantom RTP call against Sugar Bear Hamilton. I was 8 (almost 9) and I thought my dad was going to blow a gasket. Awful.
I get goosebumps every time... never had such a natural high as the moment the field goal went through at the end.
R.I.P. Gino. I still have my cassette recording of this game. I cried like a baby when we won that first Super Bowl.
Gil and Gino calling Pats games in heaven together
And now also Gino Cappelletti...😞
RIP Gil Santos and David Patten
RIP Gil Santos :'( This is how he'll be remembered to me! The best radio call in PATRIOTS HISTORY!
It’s hard to listen to anyone else. It’s not the same
@@Freemarkets1236 I agree with you 100%....
This was the best day of my NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS Fan LIFE!!!!
What a memory!!! The best of my New England Patriots fan life!!!
So much better than that lame Pat Summerall, who had the most tepid, uninspiring call of a game-winning play ever.
WE'LL MISS HEARING GIL SANTOS AND GINO CAPELLETTI ON NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS RADIO!!!
My dad and I would turn down the tv volume and listen to Gil and Gino.
Thank you for posting this. I so miss Gil and Gino
WOW!!! I have been looking for this mix forever. I remember hearing it on the radio a week after the win! I was in 5th grade at the time.
Rest in Peace Gil. I loved listening to you and Gino call the games,.There was none better
Rip GIL. we miss ya.
This was the first time a team I rooted for won a championship. Then my friends would say that won’t happen ever again....
2 legends! R.I.P
RIP Gil
Gill and gino. Are in . ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN. LISTEN TO THE 1974 RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS VERSION OF ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN AND THINK OF GIL AND GINO. R.I.P GUYS .

RIP Gil & Gino. One of the greatest broadcasters in NFL history.
Why after we just won I'm still listening to this
Why don’t they upload full broadcasts. I’d love to listen to them
Gonna miss that voice calling the games
RIP Gil Santos. He will forever be in our memories for some of the greatest moments in Patriots history. My condolences to Gino's family and Patriots everywhere.
RIP Gil, and thank you.
Still to this day the most insane thing.

He was so happy.
Listening to this for the first time and getting goosebumps as i was 7 at the time and from the UK
I still get chills!
RIP Gil, Brady and Belichick aren’t the only GOAT’s
In terms of nostalgia, Yes. But Gil and Gino have been pretty bad in recent years. Then theres Freaking Zolak who I hate as a broadcaster
It was actually Gary Glitter- Rock and Roll Part 2 back in 2001.
But wasn't their touchdown song U2's Elevation at the time?
Nobody can replace Gil Santos
Look at the video.
RIP Gil Santos.
epic game
R.I.P.
Haha! You're REALLY bored.
Hey, just for fun yell "HEYMOM! MAKE ME A SAMMICH!"
