- This is my 3rd homemade guided knife sharpener. This one is my favourite.
The peel and stick sandpaper is also called PSA sandpaper and I purchased mine at sandpaper.ca but most woodworking supply store carry it.

If you would prefer to buy one, I would recommend the wicked edge sharpener.

Nice wood working. Thank you for sharing your .pdf!
Excellent project build. Thanks much for the plans.
Beautiful and great job!! thanks Master!!
French River Springs
Excellent work, thanks for sharing.
Thanks. really helpfull the design you improve. About the magnets. Polarity could be important to hold the field atraction strong.
This is the type of people I like to see in RUclips
I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm ruclips.net/user/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.
I love it when people say it isn't DIY because you have tools. What, it isn't DIY unless you chew the wood off with your teeth?!? Awesome sharpener design, my man. I'm modifying it to accommodate my diamond sharpening plates. I want it to sharpening knives, chisels, spoons, chopsticks and wrenches etc. You never know when you need a good, stabby wrench!!
:-D
Just keep in mind that the angle will not be the same across the length of the blade. This may not be an issue, and the variation will be smaller the longer the distance from the pivot to the edge of the knife
Simon Sayegh, I think that "the angle will not be the same across the length of the blade" theory, has been proven wrong. ruclips.net/video/UjoTLYsKG9k/видео.html
Just doing it the same way every time, 2-3 degrees does not mean a shit.
Just my opinion.
@@simonsayegh7535 He's built a giant Lansky sharpening rig. I use a Lansky on y knives and never had an issue with that style of sharpening.
Well done, a beautiful piece of work, thank you for sharing.
I can't believe the quality of this work. Congrats.
Simple, functional art. What more could one ask for? Very nice.
Amazing workmanship. I always enjoy watching someone that is great at their craft and the use of multiple tools in their arsenal.
A knife sharpener and a cutting board all in one! The wood is great
Phillip Taylor that would be the worst cutting board ever
Sharpener purchase connection:goo.gl/brnXZ2
@@hookoffthejab1 The worst cutting board made with nicer wood than some cutting boards.
That is good idea!
I like it. I've been looking for something like this. I've never been able t get my knives this sharp.
Beautiful work allot of high end tools you have and would love to invest in. Thanks for your time

This isn’t just a very cool knife sharpener. It’s an actual work of art!
James, thank you very much!
Thank you for sharing your design! Great video and instruction. I will be making one of these!
Thanks for sharing you revised designs. I just finished making your 3.0 version and it works really well. I have wet and dry paper on the sharpener at the moment but have ordered some 150x20mm diamond stone plates. Can’t wait to give them a go!
What an AWESOME thing to do for everyone! I think that when you do things selflessly for others it comes back to you ten fold and that's exactly what I hope happens for you!
I admire your persistence to making it perfect. Beautiful
Good job. YES ! When sharpening a blade keeping the angle exact during every stroke is the key to success. Thank you for sharing.
If I were you I would add more wood working videos to your page! You are clearly a pro and I'd watch more of those videos!
Bryan R I put several woodworking videos and most of them did not do so well. But I have more subs now. Will make more woodworking videos. Thanks for the tip
Cool DIY project! Thanks for sharing the blueprints!
It's beautiful. It's a work of art. Great talent.
Find some old hard drives and pull the magnets out. You’ll love how strong they are. Odd shaped but they’ll be great.
I use them to hold drawings and manuals on the wall of the workshop.
They can almost keep an entire book on the wall. :-D
Just one or two from old microwaves...
a comment on your magnets...as an alarm technician...some doors were almost impossible to align correctly or in close proximity in order to get the contact switch to close...I learned from an old tech that if I took my magnets and installed them so they would repel...the magnetic field would be expanded and stronger...if you install them where they pull into each other...the magnetic field would be depleted...made smaller...that's probably all you need to do in you re-installment of the magnets...nice video...
thats wrong , i tried it out now ,
You are absolutely right, I installed alarm systems for 20 years. Just like electric batteries, if you install them in series you will get a stronger current.
Great video thank you....
It calls “halbach array” effect on lining up magnets .
First one I've seen that doesn't require a ton of metal to make! Nice. Thanks.
Beautiful build! Thanks for sharing this!
Terrific.
I would love to have the CAD files of this
R. Akers Use his PDF and draw it yourself on CAD. What’s so hard about that? I bet you want someone else to draw it then send you a DXF file. Pay me $100 and I’ll put in on a CAD Program.
That's Padauk??? On camera it really looks like Purple Heart wood! Just curious, could you make one with the multi sided whetstone in place of the sandpaper? I don't know if the angles are completely different using a whetstone vs sandpaper. I know that the handle would need to be made from aluminum or stainless so you can get the stone wet and not worry about the wood
That's definitely purpleheart; I work with it a lot.
NW fuck purple heart
Well. You're a weirdo. ;-)
Phillip Taylor It does look like purple heart. I though it was until I read your post. Must have missed where he said it was padauk.
yeah same here. Looks damn near identical. I use it a lot for inlay work on fretboards.
thank god, finally i saw someone who first design the product & then manufacture it.
Wow, thank you for sharing all your wisdom on this
+1, however I am not sure if the angle is preserved everywhere correctly, it really depends on knife and abrasive paper "meet point", and this is related to knife size and position on the magnetic table
there are a ton of systems like this. they all have no problem why would this
Yeah, you might want to send a message to Lansky then, because their sharpening system works exactly like this. In fact, Spyderco has one like it too. Maybe you should send a message to their engineers too while you're at it. You're nothing but a pretentious asshat.
The difference in angle is apparently so negligible that it doesn't matter
Y’all are assholes he didn’t say it’s not gunna work or it’s a piece of junk he just stated a fact. I had noticed it as well, I’m still interested in making one myself though.
yes, but definitely no worse than an amateur with a sharpening stone
You don't sell them do you they look awesome and I would pay money to own one instead of building one...
Goanna Bushcraft & Leatherworks than hire someone to build it
@@miles11we Appears to me that's exactly what Goanna Bushcraft & Leatherworks was trying to do. 🙄
@@reeb9016 dont reply to comments 2 years old
@@miles11we 😆...and why? Rotten comments deserve a response.
@@reeb9016 that wasnt a rotten comment, at the time I was hoping I would get a response so I could suggest someone. Wait, mine is a rotten comment but the "lazy fuck" isn't?
But because no one cares about shit they said in a youtube comment from 2 years ago and neither should you.
A work of art! I wish I had your tools and your skill. My skills lie at mechanical, automotive, and my interpretation of home repairs!
3 YEARS SINCE i SUBSCRIBED AND BUILT MY 1ST COPY OF YOUR KNIFE SHARPENER. This is by far the BEST plans out there. I'm making one for my neighbors kids who got into sharpening knives. My knives are RAZOR sharp....all because of this video. OUTSTANDING !
That’s awesome ! 😊😊
@@frenchriversprings Thank you sir. I love this design. Genius, and you deserve all the credit. Thanks again, may God Bless you and your family.
WHAT'S THE NAME OF THE SONG?
Did you check polarization of magnets? If not it will not be sticcking so much as it could.
Marek Seidl my thoughts aswell.
This would be a good application for a Halbach array!
why to use magnets in first place?
To keep the knife in place.. doohh..
I built one, I used double sided tape to stick the sandpaper on, this along with a strop sharpened a knife that I haven't been able to put a proper edge on in years. Thank you for the plans it was a fun build and a wonderful tool to have. Plus there's no satisfaction like using a tool you built yourself!
So happy I could help you!! Could you send me a photo. I want to collect a photo of everybody that builds it. My email: gilbertroy939@gmail.com
Outstanding, you did a really nice job, and the music is nice also. Thanks for the guidance.
I love when I see a DIY video that includes every power tool known to man. (Sarcasm)
yeah, I wanna save money by doing it myself--all I need now is 5k bucks worth of power tools. :))
I wouldn't mind having some of those hole drilling jigs those are nice.
Find a local makerspace
The "31" does trigger my OCD.....
hahahahahah
I saw it too. I was like 15, 20 yeah 25 yeak ok i with you 31. WHAT THE FUCK?
LOL it sure did bother me XD
Thanks for sharing this. Really cool design!
Ty for sharing, best sharpener out there right now. And for the price, it beats everyone. Brilliant, thanks again.
Where did you get the sticky sand paper
You can get it at sandpaper.ca or toolsforworkingwood.com It's called PSA sandpaper.
at the sticky sand paper store
Use Elmers Glue moron
Robert Rudolph I have and it don’t stick worth a shit but thanks for being a smart ass I’m trying to make blocks for a wicked edge and need something to stick to the plastic blocks 👍
Try epoxy?
I tried to print screen but the result was not good. Could you please make a pdf and put a link so I can down load youre prints. Would love to make a knife sharpener like this. Best regards from Sweden
Bertil Håkanson send me an email and I will reply to you with the PDF. gilbertroy939@gmail.com
hi, i liked your project. Can you send the pdf to my email?
mauroledesmadesign@gmail.com
Thanks.
I know I am late to the party but could you also email your plans? My email is joroscamacho@gmail.com. I am a novice but willing to try! Thank you so much and keep up the awesome work!!!
The best sharpener I've ever seen! Compliments! Is fantastic! I have already tried to do something similar, but with poor results. I had made the adjustable inclined plane, but your solution is better! Could you please send the project to me too? I would really like to try to build it!
Thank you, great video! maovis@hotmail.com
Could you mail me the Pdf? jonas.graeml@web.de thanks
Nice job, i may have to have a go at building myself one when i finally get some spare time, thank you for the plans ;)
Beautiful work, man. Respect.
Why not put a link to the blueprint online? Like on Google Drive?
Grizz Axxemann its a pretty simple build, i believe in you
Dude, I'm a draftsman. It hurts my soul to work from a screenshot of a compressed video.
notreallydaedalus dont, just design it independantly yo suit yourself... its a very simple object
The thing is it's damn near impossible to actually SEE the drawings due to the compression and variance in monitor quality. And for a guy like me, I can't even draw a straight line in MSPaint.
Miles11we ggģpå
How am I supposed to do this with just a hammer and a dull knife? LoL
Seriously though, awesome job!
I'm glad this showed up in my feed, although it is now 4 years later (thanks RUclips!), I'm both a woodworker and a chef, so I appreciate the beautiful build and cringe at the thought of sharpening my knives with sandpaper... I may need to scale it up a bit to hold my stones 😉. Definitely going to check out more of your stuff. Have a happy day 👍
If you like stones then you will like this video. Cheers!

Disturbing
I know, right? It should be 30 and not 31.
Lmao!
You could make money selling these. I'd buy one from you.
Myself.
i took great pleasure watching this your skills are amazing
This is a really nice job - I just wished I was as talented as you ! What’s really good is the different grit papers you’ve attached to save swapping around like the apex pro model . Top drawer sir 👍🏻
i want to buy if you will sell it.
John Carreon sorry I don't have any for sale at this point but ask me again in 3 months
French River Springs how much it will cost sir?
John Carreon I don't know yet. Depends how much it cost to get them 3D printed
Thank u sir
Me too.i like to have one of these
Great! Now I just need to go out, and buy three thousand dollars of equipment, and I will be ready to sharpen my knives.
Mario Pereira plywood, drill, and a skill saw is all u need
+Will M. also depending on your skill set of wood working the better equipment you have the the better turned out project with less experience you can get right.
It's just a sharpener. Sharpening knife for 20 mins, then won't be seen again in 6 months. Plywood it is, with an oil finish.
don't buy the cheap stuff
Great job. Probably best I’ve seen. Most are so small. Thank you so much!
I watch all these channels and am like man I wish I had those tools. It makes life much easier.
Took the pdf and made this knife sharpener. You don't need fancy tools unless you want to make it pretty. I used some 3/4 plywood and my knives and axes have never been sharper. A bit small for one of my axe heads but it got the work done. Easy build and clear instructions. 10/10 would build again.
I watched a few knife sharpening videos. This I liked this the best. I feel I don't need anymore ideas. You pretty much covered everything
A true craftsman! I don't have near as many tools as you. But I'm going to do my best!
Great idea and build, plus THANK YOU! for sharing the plans with us for free! You have no idea (or I bet that maybe you do) how much that means to people like me who just plain cannot afford any more expenses.
You have a new subscriber for life!
Thank you so much!!
great idea , going to make one of those
This is a great jig for blade sharpening! Thanks for sharing!
A lot of effort for a knife sharpener. I credit you for a nice design and workmanship.
YOU are the reason Ave cannot stand wood!
This is THE most beautiful machine I have ever seen made from wood.
Well done!
Chuffing Ale thank you!!! Ya I watch AvE Also. Great channel!!
Lovely tool and a great video. Thank you.
Love it - Great design !!
I just barely seen this today for the first time. Iv been sharpening with stones my whole life and it’s not something that can be easily taught. This is kind of amazing I’m surprised no ones made this before it will help anyone that’s somewhat lazy cause we all know the moment your focus is off you’re fucked on a stone. When you have like 20 knives to sharpen this will help. And also anyone starting to learn the basics and angles on stone sharpening. I’m going to make this lol thank you for taking the time to share.
Ps. You should not only offer plans but you should make these and sell them on Etsy don’t know if you do this already but you can easily charge 2-300 dollars for one. All those cheap knife sharpeners as in cheaply made not cheap to buy are mostly useless . For anyone that doesn’t have the skills to make it off the template even though you basically made it failproof with your blueprints . Il make a few in the next couple weeks and post a vid if possibly
That is a really good idea!
Great job !
Excellent, I loved the dog! Thank you.
Brilliant! I will definitely be making this, thanks for the video.
I have taken up making carving knives and draw knives so this will make it easier to put an edge on them.
Excellent video, well laid out, not only have you turned out a very usefull tool but a work of art as well, regards Doc Cox
very precise sharpening I like it! Oh nice solution for the magnets!
Super cool of you to share your work, thank you very much.
awesome with extra wow sauce added! hopefully I'll get round to making it, I'm good at sharpening chisels but less so with pocket knives
I have a $30 Chinese knockoff of the Edge-Pro and it definitely needs the magnets. Really nice design and craftsmanship with your build. Nice equipment in the hands of an expert woodworker. I'm giving this a big thumbs up!
Add a handle on the side so you can take it with one hand very easy.
Great job and thanks for sharing.
Great job done ! It's always a pleasure to do something with your own hands ! Subbed & greetings from Croatia
Nice design. I enjoyed the video and think I will give it a go at making one.
Nicely done! Thanks for the plans.
Awesome set up, the mallet is way cool, I'll be making one, any your assistant is the best. Thanks for the video
I'm working on one myself. I like your design.
Cool machine! Thanks for the blueprints!
Excellent travail !
Bravo !

Great job! nice to see ingenuity still exist! it's a dying thing with today's youth. no one makes things anymore it all buy buy buy. You did a terrific job . And man it really sharpens well .

truly great job man, thank you
Good job ! Beautiful work , great talent . Congratulations from France .
This is AMAZING!!!
Beautiful end product. You are, indeed a craftsman. Your work is very impressive and the fact that you are skillful with hand tools adds to your credit. Merci beaucoup.
Merci!
Nice upgrade, keep up the good work
Excellent workmanship.
dude. that is magnificent. really nicely done. i wish i had your talent for wood work - i'd build one for sure.
So much woodwork. Thank god I know how to sharpen free hand. Naniwa Chosera series, Kings Deluxe and Leather strops with green compound.
Thank you for sharing, good engineering work and video, have a goos day
Beautiful workmen ship ! enjoyed your vid ! thanks .
