    Update: After further testing I actually was able to get the QM8 to follow HDR EOTF well at the cost of max brightness. This also improves the HDR color accuracy.

      Concerning your updated testing and the PQ EOTF curve was these adjustments in calibration only or were there user menu settings used that can fix the PQ EOTF? What brightness levels did you get once this was done with HDR and a 10% window? Your D65 brightness is unheard of beating measurements of this display taken in Vivid mode. Most D65 brightness levels have maxed around 3500 nits from reviews.

    The issue I have with those monitors is the limited warranty. You are getting a high price monitor and won't even get any replacement any true free repair (shipping costs, extra possible defects might be found, etc), for a piece of equipment most of us will want to have for at least a decade.

      @@thedisplayguy TV Showdown of the year.
      What I really want to see in the U8N vs QM8 comparison is the perceived brightness of a starfield pattern: ruclips.net/video/PMJiHJoE0L8/видео.html
      If you're getting the 75" U8N it becomes particularly interesting when according to RTINGS the 75" U8N has an ADS Pro panel (IPS type) vs. the 65" with VA, and in this case I would personally recommend the 65" U8N over the 75" U8N because I consider native contrast just as important as dimming zones, and reportedly the 65" U8N has the highest native contrast of any LCD ever tested.

    I'd love a mini led TV, but holy shit they are almost all too big for a desk setup or too expensive. I feel like we should have mini leds competing at the 42" size competing with the LG C series but we kind of just don't.

    • @budthecyborg4575
      @budthecyborg4575 Месяц назад

      It is a real shame they won't even make this display in 55".
      What's more it's a common trend among Mini-LED TVs to make the 55" version really crappy with often half the dimming zones you'd find at 65" or 75". Which is super annoying when I'd gladly pay the same price for the same specs just at a smaller size.

    • @noidsuper
      @noidsuper Месяц назад +1

      @@budthecyborg4575 Yeah. It’s like the mid size miniledTVs get disproportionately shafted. It ends up being a sort of awkward middle ground where it they don’t have the dimming zones, or the response times to compete with OLED. I can sacrifice the response times for exceptional HDR performance, but you only really get that on the bigger screens.

    • @tomaspla4252
      @tomaspla4252 Месяц назад +1

      I game on a 43' qn90b, it has around 400 zones, but the HDR is great, the main drawback is that its 400nits on 2% windows, but then it is 800/1000 for 10% up until 50% at 800 and 100% at 600.
      Since it has that low brightness on smaller highlights, it doesn't produce very noticeable blooming.
      I think it can compete with Oled in some aspects, it looks better on bright scenes and worse on dark ones.
      I have been eyeing oleds for a time but the brightness specs in bigger windows currently don't cut it for me. Also, of course pixel response time is superior on oled as well, but having temporal ghosting and blur in games kind of kills the advantages of the lower response times.
      Edit: got it used at 400bucks, so pretty good deal.

    • @budthecyborg4575
      @budthecyborg4575 Месяц назад

      @@tomaspla4252 After buying an 1,100nits PC monitor and comparing with my OLED it's surprising how much brighter the 800nits OLED appears in many scenes.
      Even though RTINGS records the same 2% window brightness between the LG C1 and INNOCN27M2V monitor, the LG C1 obviously produces specular highlights much better than the 1,152 zone IPS type LCD monitor.
      LCD FALD is great if you need to pump out a lot of light but I almost always prefer the OLED.

    No. End of video. I have top Mini-LEDs, Mid Budget Mini-LEDs, Top OLEDs/QD-OLEDs and Mid Budget OLEDs. The answer is NO. Stop with ABL BS. The only thing Mini-LEDs have at certain levels is Brightness. OLEDs have gone closer to the brightness level in 2024. Stop with any burn in BS as well. Price is the only reason one would buy a Mini-LEDs LCD TV. We are not talking about Micro-LED. The goal is to get near the Sony HX310 reference monitor with it's image quality and 1000nits on a 100% window. (Not a 10% window)

    It doesn't matter how bright a TV can get if the source material is only graded in 1000 nits. Most movies these days are only graded at that, same with games, so the extra 4000 nits on this TV is wasted (for now anyway) until future movies are graded in 4000 nits such as on Sony's new 4000-nit mastering monitor, then you will get huge benefit from TV's like this TCL but that will be later down the track.

    • @thedisplayguy
      @thedisplayguy  Месяц назад +2

      This isn’t necessarily true.
      If a Mini LED TV does 1000nits full screen vs an OLED which does let’s say 150-250nits than the Mini LED can produce more accurate and brighter high APL scenes.
