this is my first time stumbling on this term compulsory heterosexuality and i think it resonates a lot with my experience in a conservative environment where men and women live in distinct hemispheres and do not share any meaningful relationship other than romantic/sexual one. in addition a lot of them have one inseparable friend with whom they live and spend the whole day with ( they even get really intimate with each other especially among girls) despite that they always deny any romantic feelings towards each other even when i ask about it jokingly.
The ContraPoints YT channel episode "Twilight" (on the _Twilight_ novels) features a theory of Default Heterosexual Sadomasochism (DHSM), covered in Part 6: Identity.
Always helpful when a video encourages one to get out a work that has been on one’s To Be Read list forever…A longer discussion might have covered where this work stands in comparison to the landmark texts - Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex, 1949 and Judith Butler's Gender Trouble, 1990. Somewhat overshadowed maybe? Perhaps from the vantage of 2024 we might wish to ask some difficult questions: is it conceivable that we could ever escape from some form of majority norm - even thought this might change over time and location? Furthermore, is it tenable to consider minority identities as exempt from norms and power dynamics of their own? I'm sceptical of notions of alternative, pure spaces free from oppressive power. But I'm now off to order Rich!
Highly doubt there is a *click* in the heads of students when the norm is compulsory homosexuality and queerness in today’s universities and the creative industry
Obviously this is a homophobic comment, but to any other queers in the audience: don’t they conjure such a beautiful world? Disclaimer disclaimer, replacing the oppressor without replacing the system of oppression, etc etc, we’re all aware, but can you imagine?
This entire assertion is predicated on the idea that orientation isn't biological, which it is. Also, lesbian couples are the most likely to suffer from DV. BW are the least likely to date IR, and you mention patriarchy and WM despite the fact that WM are actually some of the least patriarchal men globally.
@@TheoryPhilosophy, I believe @drakethesnek642 brought up some key issues that are, in my opinion, worth pursuing. One item mentioned is the very high divorce rate of lesbian couples, around 72%, which would indicate that they are not necessarily the happiest of all couples. In addition, the comment @drakethesnek642 made about white males and patriarchy is worthy of further discussion as well.
Awesome choice of topic 👏
Your videos are so important. Keep going, please.

I've clearly failed if you've so embarrassingly misunderstood the term.
@TheoryPhilosophy I wasn't necessarily responding to the term, but specific things said in the video.
