      I dont mind this move, either, although it probably ends Hoffman's time as a Phillie. Ross put up real solid numbers in relief. Not a bad add.

      Unfortunately, I think they may have realized Hoffman was probably gone before they made this move. We will see but hasn’t sounded like he’ll be back.
      Merry Christmas, Sean!

    A small signing in Nabil Crismatt could be a nice bullpen piece as well. He was signed on the 13th of December to a minor league deal. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas

      Thank for the comment! Curious to see if they can work Crismatt’s curveball in more and get him back to that 2022 form. His stuff doesn’t grade out well but maybe with the Phillies staff it will improve.
      Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel! Merry Christmas!

    Im sold on the rotation but i think if you cannot get hoffman back bring in estevez or a good arm to fill the hole after losing hoffman

    • @phillyinsiderpodcast
      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад

      Yeah I’d love to bring in one more RHP for the pen but it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen at this point. If they could flip someone in a trade, maybe they coudl free up a pen spot and acquire another pen arm via trade/FA.

    Not expecting much.. but this is move to me says “dear god anything but Walker” DD has mentioned Painter will be up this year.. so it’ll be very interesting to see how the rotation shapes
    I still want Hoffman back, but this move gives me shades of the Strahm acquisition. Decent numbers with upside.. doesn’t strike a ton of guys out.. hopefully this works out

    • @phillyinsiderpodcast
      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад

      Yeah the last 2 days have shown they’re likely done w/Taijuan. Painter being up is expected but it’s just a matter of what his role will look like. I think it’d make more sense to use him out of the pen early but I’m sure they’ll have a schedule/plan for him.

    • @phillyinsiderpodcast
      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад

      I dont really view it as very similar to Strahm since Strahm had been pretty good as a reliever before arriving in Philly and got more money bc he was somewhat established even tho he hadn’t reached the heights he has in Philly.
      I’d love to bring back Hoffman but everything suggests it’s not happening rn which is unfortunate. We will see tho

      @ yeah DD said they’re planning late July? Seems early to me still but he’ll be on heavy innings restriction. Maybe as an opener for Ross? Kinda sims what they do in the minors with the low inning totals

    • @phillyinsiderpodcast
      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад

      I’d more so compare it to the Turnbull signing rather than Strahm. Showed a lot of potential early but injuries derailed career as a starter. Both signed at 31 years old for about $4M. Both signed to be swingman between rotation and bullpen.

    • @phillyinsiderpodcast
      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад

      Yeah that would definitely make sense. I wouldn’t mind if they had them piggyback and/or ran a 6-man rotation for 2-3 weeks to ease him in. I know some of the other pitchers wouldn’t love it but just for a few weeks. Curious to see what they do.

    Another of Dombrowski's USED TO BE GOOD, BUT WAS INJURED LAST YEAR reclamation projects.

      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад +1

      I mean it’s another Spencer Turnbull move which is fine considering they have starters and relievers ahead of Joe Ross. Every team needs a swingman.

      He was also pretty good last year tbf

    They have so much pitching depth, that they should move some of those pitchers to get players like Buxton, Suzuki, or other outfielders. Like Dave Dombrowski said, sometimes you have to trade good players for good players.

      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад

      I wouldn’t be opposed to shopping Suarez for the right outfielder. He’s probably the most likely candidate to be traded from the rotation.
      I like Buxton but he really struggles to stay on the field. Suzuki is a great hitter but I think they’d have a lot of issues defensively if they acquired him and they still wouldn’t have a centerfielder in that scenario.

    • @SirPhilly
      @SirPhilly Месяц назад

      @ Yeah, that’s why I said Buxton for Center Field. Sure he struggles to stay healthy, but maybe all he needs is a change of scenery with how bad the Twins’ vibes were last year. When he’s healthy he’s an MVP candidate. And I definitely agree that I would move Suarez for the right outfielder.

    • @phillyinsiderpodcast
      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад

      I just don’t trust him to ever stay healthy, and I don’t think a change of scenery fixes that. He’s played over 100 games only twice out of 9 seasons (not counting the Covid season since everyone played less than 100).
      He is 31 now and set to make $15M a year until 2029. I don’t think the Phillies would be willing to go over the 4th tax threshold for him.

      I think they probably ride it out w/Marsh and Rojas in center. I’d love to buy low on Luis Robert but there doesn’t seem to be any news or interest there right now.

    • @SirPhilly
      @SirPhilly Месяц назад

      @ Yeah I agree that they are likely done adding to the outfield. Wish they would get a legitimate guy out there though.

    Signing these pitchers won't solve our Cold Bat problem when we need a hit the most. 3rd place in the division this year. They had their shot. It's over

    • @phillyinsiderpodcast
      @phillyinsiderpodcast  Месяц назад +1

      I don’t think anyone is arguing against that. Not sure who they could add in the outfield market that would change that though.
