      They made a director's cut where they swapped out the alien angle with time travel, but it only raised different issues and while some new scenes did flesh things out a bit more, it didn't help the story. And yet it's not the worst one in the franchise.

    • @wasylwasylson7349
      @wasylwasylson7349 6 месяцев назад

      For me it was the opposite. The 1998 Godzilla movie was bad enough to make me disinterested in Godzilla movies as a whole for a very long time. Only very recently i saw some, including the 1954, 2016 and the American 2014 movies and understood that Godzilla franchise is not as bad. All the 1998 Godzilla has are some decent special effects and that's abou itt IIRC (that was 1/4 century ago). It wasn't even so bad to be good.
      I agree however that it doesn't need to be on this list. There are many worse "SF" films.
      On the other hand I liked that Travolta movie - in the sense "sit is so bad to be good", it was hilarious to watch. In comparison 1998 Godzilla was just very mediocre.

    • @wasylwasylson7349
      @wasylwasylson7349 6 месяцев назад

      Sure, many terrible movies have "cult status". Even this video included Ed Wood's opus magnum - Plan 9. Ed Wood himself has "cult status" despite never making a single good movie in his life according to some. Doesn't mean those movies or directors aren't very bad. We all went as kids to see bad movies multiple times. I went twice to see Mortal Kombat 1, though, arguably, it had redeeming qualities. Kids in general don't have experience or knowledge to judge a movie quality.

I was too giddy, after "Star Wars" completetly changed my understanding of sci-fi movies, to notice that "Star Crash" just tried to surf in the wake of "Star Wars" until it was too late. Real bad acting, bad modelling, bad stop-motion, ... it takes less time to say what's good about this movie: Nothing! Funny enough, it only took the first large spaceship to make it's flyby in front of the camera, when I knew this movie is trash: Seeing the cockpit of the "Space 1999" Eagle Transporter from the AIRFIX model glued prominently to the hull.

    Unfair to call AFTER EARTH a 'Smith Family Outing'; there were roles that could have been taken by Jada P and Willow. Casting Jaden made a lot of sense: It was quicker that trying to find an unrelated young actor who looked enough like Will Smith (who'd have the ears?)
    What about INTERSTELLAR? Silly premise relying on pretty incredible coincidences, weak characters, scientifically inept even in the non-astronomical stuff (how heavy is a wave as high as a mountain going to be, and what will be left if it lands on you?), and the heroic achievement is based on appalling morality - better to find Planet B that save Planet A (and most of its population)

    "Plan 9 from Outer Space" was bad and I don't dispute that. But it has the distinction of having been declared the WORST MOVIE EVER and it won an award - The Golden Turkey Award from the Medved brothers. When you get SO bad that it becomes entertaining (in the same way that watching a train wreck is entertaining) then you can't totally dismiss it. But it has another distinction - the movie starred Bela Lugosi, who was already dead at the time of filming. But with stock footage and stand-ins, who needs AI to fill the gaps? Ed Wood didn't! You have to give it credit for a "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" attitude.

    I was entertained by Jupiter Ascending. I attribute that to:
    Being in the mood for some theater-sized eye candy,
    Knowing enough SF to (eventually) piece the plot together,
    Getting a feeling that the over-the-top acting reminded me of Flash Gordon (OG),
    And taking a few hits of Blue Dream before the movie.
    Mmmm, popcorn

    But Chaos Walking, Godzilla 1998, Terminator Genisys, Jupiter Ascending, Moonfall, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Planet of the Apes 2001 are more like mediocre or lame or meh but not the wrost since there are many bad and very aweful sci fi films than them that you didn't mention like:

    Birdemic 3: Sea Eagle
    Dune World

    8. Dark Fate was MUCH BETTER than Salvation and Genisys, but by that point, the damage was already done. The Terminator franchise had fallen out of favor and as a result, Dark Fate bombed at the box office. Something similar ALSO happened to Megaman X8 AND Megaman X: Command Mission, which also had poor sales due to a previous entry boming, in this case, Megaman X7.
    H.M.3: If there's a silver lining, its that James Cameron legitimately learned from this, and that he has since upped his game and become one of the best directors in Hollywood today.

      I know I shouldn’t be complaining about a free service, especially one that has a reasonably fair priced subscription that skips ads & more. But I like having RUclips on in the background while I live my life, so I tend to let ads play. But for 40% of the total time to be ads is a lot.
