I’m a Kemper user, mostly loaded with Tone Junkie profiles, and I’m very happy with it. I’m a bit surprised to see you holding a Helix but also glad because it offers us more options.
Many have been doing this for years already, and not just with Helix. You can do the same thing to match recorded album tones very closely, too. The most important part is getting the amp dialed as closely as possible for distortion characteristics (as well as any other pedals you might have in the chain), before applying the tonematching EQ. Izotope Ozone is my match EQ of choice because it has the highest precision of all the options (or it did a couple years ago, at least).
Sounds great guys Well done! Please, can’t wait to see your Sunday morning performance videos using Helix with this new profile tone matching and your opinion along with
I love that there is every opportunity to start an ugly situation with all the other guys doing a similar thing, but you don't. Class act all the way!!! I bought the patches on principal if nothing else (...and they sound amazing, so there is that). Strong work guys!!
Great tones, proper approach. Maybe fair also to acknowledge Glenn de Laune too, who offers several sets of tones produced following exactly this approach already for years now. I use them exactly for the 'airiness' reason you mention. Great that more tones like this are coming!
@@robgroden From my understanding after reading hints over on The Gear Page, the L6 team has used new technology and/or methods to capture the cab/mic responses. The new Metallurgy plug-in packs feature the new cab functionality and people seem to like it. If I recall correctly, Eric Klein from L6 said something to the effect that the 3.2 update will have the biggest single sonic improvement since the Helix was introduced which leads a lot of us to believe the new cabs (or whatever they're calling it) will be in the next firmware update.
I love my helix. Like many others have said, the real shortcoming with it is the stock cabinets. I wish it sounded this good out of the box, but you have to go through third-party IRs or make your own to really get something that sounds and feels realistic. I hope line 6 has massive improvements in this department because it really doesn't do the amp models (which sound great, in my opinion) justice. Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Man, that sounds like a lot of work to do this for the Helix whereas Kemper & Quad Cortex are the easiest and AxeFx is right behind. Kudos to you & Worship Tutorials for offering these tone to Helix users that have been missing out - sounds great!
Excellent explanation of the limitations of trialing to dial in versus the more detailed and precise results you can get using an EQ/Tone Match process on an Amp. The tones you demonstrated sounded awesome! I first heard of EQ Matching on Jason Sadites RUclips Channel, and was extremely impressed with the results that can be obtained using that process. I think it is the Holy Grail for getting an authentic Amp sound on a Modeler, and have been singing it's praises in video comments whenever appropriate. The ability to EQ Match should be built into all Modelers. Not only should you be able to EQ Match Amps, but you should be able to do the same thing on Effects, MIcs, etc. Thanks 😎👍
First off, I NEVER buy presets, ever. IR's yes, presets no. I've always made my own, and I've had great results for live use (which is by far the main way I use Helix) but, I took a chance on the MARS PA pack, because it contains an element that I'm not able to create myself, the tone-match IR, and was interested to see what kind of difference it might make. I'd used this preset at home for a week or so, and thought it sounded ok. So I took some of the elements from these presets, and integrated them into my own preferred preset structure, tweaked the tones and levels a bit to taste (just various degrees of gain really, nothing drastic) and took it to band rehearsal last night. I have to say, I was very pleased with the results, and to my ears, and hands, I thought they sounded, and felt great. I'd used my Marshall amp a few times in rehearsal recently, and I thought my Helix never sounded so similar to it, as it did last night. I think this could be the thing that closes the gap between Helix and the obvious competition. I'm looking forward to seeing which other amps get the same treatment in the future. Personally I'd like to see presets based on a JCM 800. WARNING :- THESE PRESETS, AS THEY ARE WHEN FIRST IMPORTED TO HELIX, ARE VERY LOUD. I'd suggest turning your Helix down before whacking that first big open E chord 😁. There was a 30% off offer when I purchased. I probably wouldn't have paid the full price, but the discounted price seemed reasonable.
I super love my Helix Native that supposedly has more DSP power than any Helix hardware, if you have a good computer. I play through an Irig HD2 and 2002 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp with an 12" Eminence Legend speaker. It sounds superb. I'd love to use your patches soon. I love the Grammatico Bright with a maple neck Fender Strat. Thank you!
I want to try to "capture" my amp with my stomp. Kemper sounds great with the right profiles, but the stomp is just so great for the price and also being a interface it suits my needs a little better all things considered. I don't have the "matching software" but ill see if I can get close with comparing EQ's while playing - it'll be harder to get the feel right I guess, but I will see how it goes :)
Helix has never sounded better! Curious to know if similar results would be possible with the Boss GT 1000 Core, could be a great solution for folks that like the Boss effects but want more usable amp models.
I've heard some Helix presets from Glenn DeLaune, that use a very similar approach. Interested to hear how yours compare. I've used Helix live for over four years, happy with it but, I know it lacks the tonal complexity of real valve amps. And as you mention, not all the models appear to be created equally. Hope to try some of your presets in the near future. 👍
How are you the eq matching? Izotope ozone eq match plugin? There can be 100 eq points on that. I know there’s a variety of options digitally I believe izotopes the gold standard although tech is still improving in this realm.
Feel is subjective but I always preferred the feel of kemper / fractal over helix. Just seemed stiff without as much touch sensitivity. Does this tone match process change that?
@@thesoozeTJ This shows how much of this perception is in the imagination, because an IR cannot change compression or “squish”. An IR is a linear transformation only-it can’t model anything nonlinear, such as compression or distortion.
About to add the HX Effects to my pedalboard... but I see it's on sale until June 6th. The day NAMM starts. I wonder if there's gonna be a hardware update/product?
I doubt it because line 6 is skipping namm so I don’t think they will be announcing a new product at the same time as the namm show if they aren’t going but… they might!
After all these years my helix will be here in a day or two. And I just have this worry that none of this can be real lol. That somehow I won’t get these tones. Do I need a power cab ? A FRFR ? Is good studio monitors ok for home use ? Somehow tones this good just can’t be real.
I am working on a video about amp I the room Tone but for me power can is the most fun at home and I use in ears live. A lot of people use studio monitors at home, I prefer amp in the room sound so I want an “amp” in the room. Power cab for me! The video is just the tone from the helix so… you won’t be far away!
@@ToneJunkieTV Awesome thank you for replying ! You have no clue how much time I’ve spent in the last two weeks trying to decide if I need the power cab. You just sold me on it. Now to decide which one …. Lol. Thanks again.
If you’re comparing a recording of the real Princeton and a recording of the Helix Princeton, EQ match, then apply the EQ to the IR, wouldn’t your guitar pickups play a factor to the overall sound?
“ In case you don’t know, I own every fender amp from 1965”
😂 world class flex right there! Thanks for the shout out. These patches sound great!
Even the frontmans? Yikes!
That's where they're all at! I've been looking for a 65 Fender and could not find one anyway. Now I know that you have them all.
Dudes, the Marshall patch sounds killer.
The demos and tones from this channel are always top tier
Once you've captured everything we need a Helix/HX everything pack!

Its effing cool anyway. I love it! I guess i have done the same albeit not so advanced, and i do it with a zoom g3 hihi.
Very cool tones, thanks for sharing the behind the scenes here!
Can’t wait to see what other models you’ll do! Sounds great!
Nice job! I do a similar process with Helix Native and Neural DSP plugins (using iZotope 9). Great way to get NDSP plugins on the go (Stomp, Helix)
CDTones can you share the process you're talkin' about? I own all 3 plugins and have no idea I can do this!
Sounds great guys

The Helix family shows what over-engineering a product should look like. Finding new ways to get amazing tone seven years after its initial release.
Nope.
Totally agree. I got my first Helix 6 months ago and I am still in love...lol. it sounds amazing and it is so powerful and flexible.
I don’t have a Helix and probably not gonna get one but thumbs up for the channel.
Nice work. With the rumored cab re-shoot in the upcoming 3.2 update, I'd love to see Tone Junkies dive deeper into the Helix.
What is a cab re-shoot? Thanks

To me it is vastly improved - mostly in the compression/squish, which I always preferred on the Kemper.
