Step into a World of Spiritual Splendor: Discovering the Magnificence of Drepung Monastery in Tibet!

  • Today, I will take you to Drepung Monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet. It was once home to 8,800 monks. Even now, around 1,000 monks still live and study here.
Located 5 kilometers from downtown Lhasa, Drepung Monastery is one of the Great Three Gelug Monasteries in Tibet. Domestic tourists rarely visit Drepung Monastery, most of the visitors here are local Tibetans who make pilgrimages here. If you want a more intimate travel experience with the locals, then don’t miss visiting Drepung Monastery.
Spread out over the lower hillside of Mount Gambo Utse, the monastery contains many colleges, halls, and dormitories for monks. It takes time to walk around the monastery, appreciating the ancient Buddha statues and murals with traditional Tibetan Buddhist characteristics, and following the locals to do the kora.
And don’t forget to have lunch in the Drepung Monastery restaurant after your visit. Eat what the locals eat and enjoy the most authentic Tibetan taste here!
Hope you will enjoy my video as usual.

I am from South Eastern Siberia, many of my countrymen used to travel Tibet and study Buddhisty philosophy at Drepung Gomang college till 1930s. I heard many stories about that monastery in connection to our famous Agvan Dorzhiev in Tibet he was known as Sokpo Tsenshab Ngawang Lobsang. Two of his disciples had become abbots of Drepung: Lobsang Legden in 1955 and Ngawang Nyima in 1978(Drepung in Mundgod).

Most of our Buddhist society teachers are from Drepung: the 100th Ganden Tri Rinpoche, Kirti Tsenzhab, Denma Locho Rinpoche and others. We are hence very familiar with Drepung. Not to mention, our Root Lama, the present Dalai Lama, is known traditionally as the “Drepung Lama”.

    Oh! God, Jangyang again!
By all accounts you are one of the most, if not the most powerful Tibetans in Chinese occupied Tibet today.
How did you acquire this rather mysterious power?
Could you mind telling fellow Tibetans your secret?
Look, other Tibetans do not dare even to pay personal visits to Buddhist monasteries and shrines for fear of inviting wrath of the Chinese Communist Party. ( In China the CCP is not just political but the Chinese government itself for all intent and purpose, Just imagine how powerful CCP is! )
But here comes Mr. Jamyang ! openly, with confidence and full sense of personal security, vidoe steaming about this great Tibetan monastery to the world!
Just imagine another Tibetan doing the same thing, he/she is going to face death sentence, with 100 % certainty, from Beijing for advocating Buddhism openly to world instead of communism with the Chinese characteristics.
Jamyang, is it your one time desparate and daring attempt to defy the CCP dictate on Tibetans in Tibet? I wish it were though I do value your life and liberty. But I dare to conclude this is NOT such attempt. Why? Because you have done many similar video steamings in past and you are able to do this again and I am sure you will do many more video streaming in future to the world to convey how wonderful Tibet has become today. Wow! Aha! By grace of CCP ?
That's why I call you the most powerful Tibetan!
How could there be such a powerful member from the conquered and oppressed race without a sugar daddy or BIG BROTHER for you in Beijing? You must be having on whose consent you can do no wrong at all. Am I right? I am sure. 100%!!!!!!!!
