I am almost 100 years old now and I greatly enjoy watching your videos. They keep me updated on a beautiful country I last visited in 1974. So many things have changed since then...
Japan is absolutely beautiful in Autumn!
Just to add to the 101 suggestions, my surgeon told me to use vitamin E oil and massage my surgical scars. I had 2 procedures done on both hands. On the scars I did it half a$$, you can see and feel the scaring. On the 2 I did it properly you can't tell anything was ever done. I think the key was the massaging the oil into it. 🤷♀️

The persimmon you are holding is a fuyu. Those you can eat more like apples. The other variety you were talking about is the hachiya. Those you do find hung and dried in Japan. They look really cool actually but are a labor intensive process to do. They are astringent if not dried or allowed to fully ripen until they are super soft and pulpy. If you have harder, less ripe, ones you can slice and dry them on a drying rack and they are super delicious. If you allow them to ripen until they are totally soft they are great to use for baking things like persimmon bread (kind of like pumpkin or banana bread).
It's awesome that both you and Chris are dropping the videos basically at the same time. Not sure if this was coordinated but it definitely helps to extend the japanese vibe. Regards from Scotland.

I have nearly no subscriptions and follow a very select and eclectic set of channels via bookmarks, yes bookmarks. Anyway the odd synchronization of 4 channels within hours of each other, in my list of the 8 I routinely follow, was just too perfect.
@@NimrodClover They're part of thay company, so definitely a coordinated effort. I aslo think that @Sharmeleon and others have the same video editors, so they've all become efficient and all share the same high quality.

Planted an Asian persimmon a couple of years ago here in Maryland. Finally got *one* persimmon this year and the squirrel stole it before it got ripe. There are two types of persimmon, the kind that's sweet when it turns orange and is still firm, and the kind that has to remain on the tree until it gets soft. I have the hard kind.
Mark Rober has a whole series outlining just how intelligent and persistent squirrels are so I truly hope you'll be able to eat some before they get them all!

The scar tissue will take at least 1-2 years to lose the 'red" colouration Sharla. I know cause my mom had the same surgery about 10 years ago. It sucks, but hang in there. You got this.

Love persimmons these crunchy ones are so tasty and I’m not even a fruit person. On a side note put silicon plaster on your scar and it will heal so much better
it's different for everyone. my mom had the red a week or two tops and it has healed really neatly. i swear by 100% essential lavender oil for all wounds, i'm never w/out a bottle.

Don't worry about the scar! I've had 3 C sections and scars take just takes a long time to heal. But scars also give people more character! Plus think of all the crazy stories you could make up about it when people ask 😂🤗❤

I have a stomach tattoo and my docter/ nurses wanted to work UNDER it (to not mess the tattoo up)🤣🤣 i thought it was so funny .but i was thinking no cut in it so it gets lost BUT yea its been 7years and its pretty much going away on its own

That's not freedom if you have to be forced to take a PCR test and quarantine. If Japan was truly free, they wouldn't be forcing it down people's throats for a virus with a 99% survivability rate.

My grandmother had a persimmon tree in her yard. When the tree was full of ripe persimmons, it looked like a tree full of little pumpkins. They will definitely grow in some parts of the US, but are not super common here. My grandmother also grew figs, pecans, and pomegranates, so I tasted all of these things first at her house.

We might get the bitter kind of persimmon...but we wait until they're really ripe before eating. The grocery store clerk though we were buying really old tomatoes once and gave a discount 😂😂😂😂

3:10 for the persimmons you can also wait until they get really ripe and soft, the insides make the perfect jam !!! 🍊
There are wild persimmons here in the middle of the US, but they are much smaller, and hard to find unless you have your own trees. You usually have to wait until they fall off the tree to eat them or until after the first frost. According to old wives tales the seeds can predict what kind of winter it will be. Split the seed and if you see a spoon it will be a snowy winter, if you see a knife it will be cold, and if you see a fork it will be warm...

You’re my guilty pleasure. I don’t normally watch/subscribe to channels like yours, but I’ve been a lurker for a while. I always get a sense of comfort and warmth from your videos. I’ve been yearning to visit Japan, but I have two full sleeves and know I’ll face some restrictions because of my tattoos. Perhaps I’ll make the trek next year if things open up again.
Just curious what do tattoos have to do with it???
@@zoe_dawg Japanese culture still frowns upon tattoos. Yakuza related taboo in part. Most onsens won’t allow you entrance and a few restaurants won’t serve you unless you cover up.

I actually prefer the long, plum-shaped Hachiya Persimmon over the flat Fuyu. Hachiyas are astringent when you eat it while its underripe. You need to wait until it feels like a squishy water balloon or when you think it's on the verge of rotting before you eat it and then it will be such an intense juicy delight.
Agreed! It takes a lot of patience to wait for them to ripen, but so worth it!

They also make for an amazing baking ingredient! Persimmon cookies, bread, cake, etc.

I finally found persimmons at my grocery store last week but they're hachiyas and only one out of the bag of five has ripened after a week of sitting on my counter. Definitely worth the wait but man, I hate having to be this patient.

From my own experience with surgeries (one on my hand to re-attach a torn ligament and a couple on my back to remove some moles), it can take around a year for the redness/pinkness around the scars to fade. I'm glad you're doing well and have finished quarantine without issue :)
