HDMI has vibrant colors and Component is washed out but you can simply change a preset for more vibrant colors on your TV but I only recommend Component if you are just recording.
The component needs to be color adjusted, and I think it will be fine. My HDMI port blew out, so I have no choice but to use Components. It does not look that bad.
You're thinking of RCA/Composite video (yellow, white and red) this is component (red, green, blue, white, red), although it works the same as RCA, it can deliver HD up to 1080p/1080i, while RCA only goes as far as 480i or 574i in PAL regions
For those who say they can't see a difference, it's simple...you're watching this video on a sub par monitor/tv! It's like trying to tell difference between 3$ speakers and 500$ speakers while listening to it through an old rotary phone! The difference between hdmi and anything else is enormous when watching on a 50+ inch 4k tv (especially a good brand)!
It's big at higher resolutions, but when it comes to PS3, which outputs 720p in most of the titles the difference is not that big, just a little more blur in components, it's still an analog signal after all, but it's more than capable of outputting up to 1080, and yes HDMI can output up to 4k or 8k, it doesn't really matter if both outputs are limited to the same lower resolution What can be agreed on though is that both are definitely better than composite
i find that component is less pixelated on my tv. hdmi colors might be more vibrant but i can see more pixels with hdmi. the hdmi makes the pixels more noticeable. it drives me crazy. 720p videos and dvd quality videos look better with component. component has its positives

I prefer component because the coloring is better but HDMI is a clearer picture quality, however I noticed that with HDMI on GTA V on Xbox 360 that everything (especially the cars) look taller in height and shorter in length so it looks more boxy and it's annoying, the only good thing I have to say about HDMI is it's better picture quality, but overall component is the better way to go

Hunter johnson Well I have the Avermedia Live Gamer Portable. Much better quality than the Elgato. The Avermedia also comes with a special cable that goes from the PS3/PS2 directly into the AV IN port on the capture card. By using that, the quality is comparable to HDMI.

well i now you're not actually going to pay me but go into your monitor/tv's settings and change it to a different mode. If it's in game mode, then change it to movie or enriched colors mode, turn the sharpness up, and turn the tint and contrast up just a little,less than 15 points each. if you are willing to spend money then you can get an hdmi cable or an upscaler that can help with the sharpness further than your tv can.
If your monitor had DVI you can use an HDMI to DVI cable. You won't have audio because DVI don't have audio like HDMI does. You can use PS3 headphones or an optical cable to a Home Theater for audio.

C-Video = Colorless, perfect bright. HDMI = Colorfull, ultra brightness, sometimes oversatured. C- Video wins with a better TV, HDMI wins in a bad TV.

one thing i don't understand is they look similar yet the component display is 640 x 480 resolution, and hdmi display is 1280 x 720....
Component video can do HD resolutions like HDMI the left side is is not 480p.
My 22" monitor/TV has only one HDMI which I use for PC, I'm thinking about to use component cable to use my PS3.
use hdmi switcher so you can add another hdmi and switch back and forth to pc

The only reason I would use (good) component cables is to avoid using an HDCP stripper for retroscalers.

Exactly my case, hdmi chip is f*cked so I returned to component, just adjust the tv to make colors bright and black more deep. Problem solved.

Well first of all it's not DRM. It's HDCP. The only way to bypass HDCP is with an HDMI splitter.
