- What is it like to take the NTV Italo train in Italy? In this train trip report, I am taking the privately owned Italo train from Firenze Santa Maria Novella (Florence,Italy) to Milano Centrale (Milan, Italy) in "Prima" (Premium Economy) Class but I will show you around in the Club (Business) class as well as the Smart (Economy Class). I hope you enjoy this Italian train report and let me know in the comments if you think Prima/Club is worth the extra money.

For Your Information: We just came back from our trip to Italy last June 2023. We bought the First (Business) Class train seats from Italo from Florence to Rome. With Business class, we were allowed to use the Italo lounge while waiting our train to arrive. They had free sodas (in cans), coffee (from the machine), beers (in cans), snacks (bag of chips and cookies) but no sandwiches in the lounge. While on the train to Rome, they just served us either coffee, tea, water or soda and some snacks but again no sandwiches like other video(s) said. Probably because the distance from Florence train station to Rome station was short. To be honest, we were not too impressed and it was not worth to get the Business fares either.
Okay, thank you. I was in the Prima section so I didn't fully know the business offerings. I think with covid at the time things were also a little different. It's too bad you didn't think it was worth it. What I usually find is on trains business class isn't usually worth it because the cabins are smaller and the seats aren't that much better. I think premium is usually a better deal. This is my experience with trains in China and Italy, I'm sure on other trains the business fare is worth it.
Great videography and music Enjoyed it!
Thank you!
Nice video, i love Italo :*
Glad you enjoyed italo, Italian trains are amazing!
Thanks for a great trip report 😃 cool to see you do a train report.
Did you find there to be a big difference between the classes? The seats and the leg room looked fairly similar.
I rode on the freccia rossa 2nd class between Salerno and Napoli last year and was not too impressed I must admit.
Honestly space wise Club seems pretty tight, basically the only thing you’re paying extra for is the lounge and better snacks. I’ve noticed with First Class train seats they seem to be shoved together in one car and kind of claustrophobic. Prima definitely is more comfortable than Smart, more legroom and slightly wider seats (plus there is less people in the cabin overall). I can’t really say for Comfort since I didn’t see it but my guess is that’s it like Prima just with the same width seats as Smart and no premium snacks.
Hi, great video. Regarding the Smart & Prima ticket on Italo, is the seating reserved, or is it first come first serve?
reserved, at least in my case.
I already booked all 3 clases foe my trip to Italy in 3 weeks. Venice/Rome Executive, Rome/Florence Smart and then, Florence/Venice Prima. Going for my honeymoon
Congrats! The trains in northern Italy are phenomenal so I'm sure you'll have a good experience.
@@neoflyerx can't wait. Never been on a train except small amusement parks ones lol first time in Europe for me as well.
You'll love it. If you can you should try to fit in Lake Como and Milan. Lake Como is really serene and Milan is quite nice.
@@neoflyerx Unfortunately I can't fit those two cities for this trip, but I will on my next amd finally I'll be able to save cash after getting a house and my wedding in 2 weeks lol Going to florence, venice, rome, and Naples for half a day because I am going to see Napoli vs Torino at Maradona Stadium.
Hey thabks for this video, was the fast track worth it? Did it actually help? Thanks!
I mean for any train travel a fast track is not that useful.
On Italo SMART class, are you allowed to take a backpack with your standard luggage?
Also what size luggage. …
I have no idea. For trains it's usually flexible unless you book a super cheap train.
Why it doesn't have too many passengers? Is it a usual situation?
This was June 2021 so still kind of Covid-y.
Covid
How do we show or scan ticket? Did someone verify our tickets before boarding?
You scan your ticket at a barcode scanner before you board the train (I think), but this was too long ago for me to remember clearly.
Going on prima friday
Very nice! Hope you enjoy.
Travel time ?
I think it took 3 hours
It really depends on the train you take and how many stops it makes, on average 2 hours
I just realized...RIP Alitalia next month!

Really?! Why so?

Thank you for sharing your experience, my experience on ITALO was pretty good but people can have different experiences and that's okay.
