Final Fantasy X Blitzball: Minimum Number of Games for the Jupiter Sigil / Mercury Sigil

- Hello and welcome to another Final Fantasy X tip video!
This video details the quickest way to get the Sigil for Wakka's Celestial weapon (Jupiter or Mercury, depending on game/console version), which is 24 to 26 games using the Reset Data option. First of all, quick shout-out to Silent Voice for the 'One Forward' Blitzball strategy, and to Endlessdusk for his fantastic Blitzball FAQ (that I can't seem to find any more, RIP). And also to BrainDamageEclipse for his shirt guides & summaries.
A full description follows on further down, but this is the breakdown (also linked here gamefaqs.games... with different team recommendations):
Win a tournament for Attack Reels (2 or 3 games)
Data Reset until Status Reels is the prize
Sign Brother (Airship Pilot), Ropp (Mi'ihen travel inn), Jumal (Luca)
OPTIONAL Sign Wedge or Nedus (both Luca)
Win Status Reels league, save (10 games)
Enter and exit menu until a new Tournament comes up with Aurochs Reels as prize
Win Aurochs Reels (2 or 3 games)
Reset Data until New league prize is Mercury/Jupiter Sigil is 1st prize
Re-sign Brother/Ropp/Jumal
Win the league for Sigil (10 games, 24 to 26 games total)
Most people recommend having Tidus with another forward and Brother as Midfielder. This is fine, but an even better setups is to have Tidus at Left Forward, Brother at Right Forward and Ropp at Midfielder. Virtually no one will get past Ropp and Brother, so you win the ball back and either Tidus or Brother can score. The team is:
LF. Tidus
RF. Brother
MF. Ropp
LD Jassu (optional - Kyou)
RD Botta (optional Naida, Zalitz)
GK. Jumal
Reset Data clears all of your Blitzball progress and resets all players to their original teams (also making free agents become free again), including resetting all skills learnt by all players and resetting their level to their starting/default level.
However, it also resets the prizes for the current Blitzball league instead if you having to play out the full 10 games to change the prizes. This saves a lot of time because you have less games to play to get Wakka's Sigil.
Thanks, that definitely helped me a lot. I had completely given up hope. I managed to get all the important rewards for Wakka in about 4 hours. I can see the appeal of this mini game but the last thing I want in my Final Fantasy game is a mandatory soccer tournament. I'm so glad it's over.
Glad it helped! I love Blitzball, but I can also see why people don't like it. Having to play 4 hours for Wakka's Celestial is a LOT and it gets tired quickly if you don't love Blitz.
Here's what I do: Put the game on fast forward speed x8, control scheme Auto mode. When Tidus happens to be near the enemy goal with the ball, Jecht shot. Haven't lost a match yet, but even if I do, just reload! I'm currently at round 8, 7 wins and 1 tie it's barely been 30 minutes
And 5 minutes later, I've won the status reels. I got one loss because the guado ran circles around the AI.
Edit: 1 hour later, since I ran through another league to reset the prize without resetting my team, I've got the sigil. Autopilot ftw

Yes I'm actually stunned by this existing. I know blitz ball stuff is always very limited online and I've always hated blitz and skipped it. But after seeing this for my first 100% run-through I'm actually not feeling so bad about blitz ball by time I get there now

Just got attack reels🤘 two more to go then the Jupiter sigil! I just did the 200 lighting bolt challenge now I have to finish this thing and it'll be the first time I've ever gotten wakkas upgrades ever!

Miyu, the girl in red on the northern side of the Moonflow, is also a really good option for a goalie. I was recommended her and never looked back tbh, though Jumal with his stats and skill does sound like hed be even better
I prefer Miyu too, she's excellent! However, she's not as good for purely resetting stats because she doesn't have Super Goalie by default; she has to learn it. Hence Jumal being marginally better if you're resetting data 🙂
For Blitzing immediately after the Goers match, you also have access to Jumal considerably earlier for that too, whereas Miyu you have to wait til Moonflow for 🌙

Attack reels: 2 games tournament (i think when we arrive at Mi'ihen Rin shop this prize automatically available)
Do 1 full league season, and wait until after Yunalesca battle
Status reels: 10 games league
Auroch reels: luckily, another 2 games tournament
Jupiter sigil: need to reset the stat, since the prize in league is not jupiter sigil. Another 10 league games
And I received the World Champion once i have Celestial Mirror and won the status reels
So 34 games in total 😅

play un official match against the al bed, when he is 1 match left on his contract save
then go against them again and leave/load data until they dont renew their contract, not only will the albed be easier to beat but you can hire him ^^

Excellent video. I didnt do any of the side quests back in 2002, but Im trying to platinum. I was absolutely dreading blitzball but youve got it all figured out. Its so easy with Ropp at mid. Thank you. Ive already beaten the league and 1 tournament.

Usually I pop Brother in the Midfield, and in that position because of his speed, he tends to intercept from there a lot and hogs a tonne of EXP.
Yeah, can't go wrong either way. Having him and Ropp together as FWD and MF means it's virtually impossible for their MF to get the ball to their other players though, and Ropp can't score himself so it's preferable to have Brother as FWD in that case.
I love blitzball . I always reset when I come back to Luca after watching Aurons spher in Besaid . Then I enlist Wedge , Zev , Roop , Muij Tidus and Waaka . So much fun 👍🇸🇪
(If you do 3 or more gools whit Tidus in the first match , he do a little dance)

Out of interest, is your name pronounced 'A-Nick-a' or ''A-neek-a'? With the Swedish flag I would guess it's A-NEEK-a?
As soon as the battles start when leaving Besaid, I make sure Wakka is in every fight. Even if it’s just switching him in and out to defend. That way when I start Blitzball, all of the reels will be there for the taking.
My team consists of:
LF: Tidus
MF: Brother
RF: Vilucha
LD: Naida
RD: Ropp
GL: Miyu
Wakka doesn't have to be in the battles though; you just have to have had that number of battles in total.
That's a good team! I don't like Vliucha much; Shaami is my girl. They're both great though tbf

I’ve had Vilucha ever since I first started playing Blitzball. She’s pretty much part of my team and when she gets Sphere Shot, she’s scoring just as much as Tidus and Brother. Shaami is pretty good. I’ve gone against her and she is a pain.
@@thomasthompson7107 Interesting, how does that help you keep track of how many battles you've had?
I love Shaami because she has VS2 and 3 as standard, so she can have extremely high Shot from level 3 onwards, and she levels up quickly too because every shot attempt is a level 2 tech. Then she's gets Wither Tackle 2 available when she had a second slot at level 7 and she's immense.
I haven't used Vil often because you have to backtrack for her, or beat Dark Valefor. The backtracking takes ages, and I usually want to have played endgame Blitzball before doing the endgame grind.
I want to mess around with a 'Best pre-Bikanel Blitzball team' without Tidus, which would probably be some combination of Shaami, Nedus, Vliucha, Zev, Tatts and Linna in the MF and FWD roles. That'd be fun!
@@DPhoenix237 simple really. With all the battles you get into along the way, plus all the grinding one does as you progress, by the time you reach the point where you start playing Blitzball to get the Jupiter Sigil, all battles needed are done.
As I said, Shaami is a right pain to go against. That’s why I like having Brother in MF. He levels quickly, he’s fast and has a decent block on him. But I tend to only play until I get the Sigil.
Early game, Miyu is the second best goalie to have, Nimrook number 1. I get her as soon as I get to the Moonflow North
@@thomasthompson7107 Ah right so just normal battling. The way you said about switching Wakka in and out made me wonder if you had some way of counting battles.
Miyu is excellent, I definitely agree that she's the 2nd best Goalie if you're not resetting data.
If you are though (like here) Jumal is marginally better because he starts with Super Goalie whereas Miyu doesn't. Even after winning a league and a tourney I think Jumal was only level 7 or so.
When I tell you I absolutely fucking hate blitzball so much I really really do I just don’t have the patience for it and it’s simply not fun for me. With that being said, I 100% gave up on the sigil and I’m okay with that as I have also gave up with Tidus and Lulu sigils. I only wanted attack reels cause it’s still really useful and your video helped me get that. I was so surprised I was able to score and actually win. I still and will forever hate blitzball and I will never play another game but thanks for helping me get attack reels even if that wasn’t the point of the video.
Blitzball is actually very easy and is STILL better than Madden XD

I don't want to spend the time and expense of getting a capture card setup and PC solely for this, and the content is a hobby not an income so I use the amateurish setup of having a console headset mic and stuff like that, which is why the production quality isn't brilliant.

@@cfedinero3704 Nice!!...the key factor was having "Brother" as mid in my team...cos u can cheese with him cos his speed is so good....except with that stupid gaudy team cos they got 2 players that can move fast too...but they're beatable. I went the reset route to cut my time for crest/sigil rewards to pop up faster....meaning start from scratch with stats after every reward & reset for reward to pop up if it'd not...& re-recruit the players every time too.

I’m currently struggling with the Chocobo Race for Tidus’ sigil, Butterfly Hunt for Kimahri’s Sigil and the Dodge 200 lightnings for Lulu’s sigil, almost done with Blitzball though :) those 3 things are killing me atm
Yeah they suck. Watch my capturing series, I have tips for the Butterfly and Lightning dodging. They're not great as Kimahri and Lulu are among the weakest endgame characters.
I did a video on Catcher Chocobo too, so see of that helps. They are dreadful mingames though.

Butterfly is easier compared to chocobo and lightning dodge. I saw a short video here in yt and memorized the route.
I got pretty good at blitzball, had ropp and passed to tidus for consistent scoring with ject shot before level 30, so got status reel quite easily. Wedge is great too but once you pass to him and he gets in trouble, he will lose the ball due to having terrible pass stats.
I’m just very adamant about resetting my hard earned data with my Aurochs. I also didn’t replace them either. All OG.
That's not really a problem, it'll just take you longer because you'd have to play more leagues.
Phoenix237 I know it sounds stupid to say this but I’m very “sentimental” with my Aurochs. Spent many hours on them too. Currently I’ve got the Crest, all Overdrive Reels, [edit] obtained World Champion, all that’s left now is either A) Keep playing league until it shows up or B) Jump to 11:15 of this video right? I might just go for the latter. Time is the one thing I do not want to waste ... again
@@ShMartinJo You do know.. that you could play up to game 9 on a save... play game 10... then if it aint there load the save.. play the league game one more time or forfeit or whatever and then play the league that has the sigil

Dude I've been literally playing Blitzball for a year, have almost 100 games under my belt and have yet to see the Jupiter Sigil come up, last celestial weapon that I need empowered is Wakka's🙈
That's odd. You might not have had enough battles; your party needs to have had 450 total battles before the Sigil shows up.
The best way to get it to shows up is to complete a league up to the 9th game, and save it just to have a backup save. Play the 10th game and QUIT Blitzball IMMEDIATELY without checking the next set of league prizes. Save on a different save slot.
Now you can check the nee league prize, and if it isn't the Sigil, reset and reload the save where you saved after game ten but BEFORE the league prize was set. Go into the Blitzball menu and a new league prize will be shown; if that isn't the Sigil then reset and repeat.
There's a 50% chance of the Sigil being the new league prize if you have had 450 battles and got Auroch Reels already.
If it doesn't show up after 5-10 resets of the game 10 save slot, you're either the unluckiest person in the world, or you need more battles. It's obviously much more likely that you need more battles, so go finish your capturing for 10 of all monsters. If you do this without checking the Blitzball prizes (so the new league isn't locked in) then once you've got enough battles the Sigil already has a 50% chance of showing up.

Went and found the players that worked for me, beat the league, went to empower the Celestial weapon and I'm satisfied. I like literally did this all 10 minutes ago! Really appreciate the feedback man! I Probably made it harder than it had to be but I got it lol

Status Reels showed up as first prize. Ive already won a league and tournament. Just finished 5 chest chocobo race (a fun 2.5 hours) and checked league prize and BOOM! Status Reels top prize
Sweet, good stuff. It will do if you've already won Attack Reels and a league, and hadn't set the next league prize before you'd done 250 battles and gone back into the Blitzball menu.
You'll either need to reset for the Sigil after winning Aurochs Reels, or play another league and save before the prize is set there.
I know this is an older video, & I hope you still check in on it from time to time. I haven't found the answer to a couple of questions that I have and hope you can help. When on Manual A, how do I get the action menu to pop up? I always seem to get stuck until opposing players show up. And, my second question is how do I get past the Psyches? I always lose that 3rd game to them in the tournament...ugh

True, but this is about the fastest method/least games possible.
If you keep your team, you have to play another league, which means forfeiting 10 games at minimum, or an even longer amount of time if you're playing the games instead.
Annoyingly, you can even forfeit league games until you're losing which sucks. Otherwise I'd just forfeit 10 games and keep the awesome team for the last league 😭

They had to have made it easier in the remaster. Stock auroch team, bait people off tidus, pass before they get in coverage and then jecht cheese. Go camp your goal while getting a snack. If you actually play you can blow anyone out by 5 to 7 every game. It's literally almost impossible to lose.
Nah dude, you must just be better at it nowadays! Everything is identical difficulty/gameplay-wise in the Remasters.
Hi what shoul i do?i cant recruit player ?can you please teach how to recruit player?
Something weird has happened during my play through. My sigils are messed up. I’ve completed the blitzball and gained the Jupiter Sigil, but wakkas weapon remains locked. I got a different crest from the locker too. I have all other celestial weapons unlocked. The only sigil missing from my inventory is the Mercury Sigil. Don’t know what’s happened, chocobo race done, butterflies done, lightning etc all completed. Has anyone else had this problem? I’m replaying on the Xbox game pass. My PS4 version is fully done.
They have the original Japanese names for the Sigils on some of the versions of the remasters. If Wakka's weapon isn't powering up, you haven't won the Sigil from Blitzball in that save.

Oh yeah, Miyu is fantastic...she's actually better than Jumal after about level 7 or 8. The thing is, she doesn't start off better so if you're resetting stats like with this method, it's better to use Jumal because your keeper will only reach level 6 or so even by the end of a league 👍

So not resetting the data only involves playing more leagues? If I like to play through the various blitzball leagues just to have op teams, I won't actually lose anything other than time, right?
Yeah it only really means that you have to play an extra league, and you need to be careful and make sure that you save before game 10 of the extra league so that you can be 100% sure that you quit out of the menu after game 10 of that league so that the prize of the next league isn't set.
There's only a 50% chance of the last league prize being the Sigil so you must make sure that you've gone straight to menu after game 10 of the previous league so that you can then make a save slot and reload that if the Sigil isn't the next league prize. It's best to keep the game 9 save separately just in case.
How to get jecht shot 2? Fastest and most efficient way
Jecht Shot 2 is tricky. You need to have learned all 3 of Tidus' key techniques, and then it'll come up as a tournament prize with Jecht Shot 2.
I can't remember what his key techs are off the top of my head, but if I remember correctly one of them is Anti-Venom 2, and one is Wither Tackle 2. It's easier to learn Anti-Venom 2 by having it come up as a tournament prize and winning it, but make sure Tidus has learned his other key techs and definitely has the Anti-Venom 2 slot open before you win it as a prize. I don't want to overcomplicate it, but noone will learn Anti-Venom 2 until Brother has been signed and played a few games with it equipped, because he is the only player who starts with that skill IIRC.
Also you can't get it if you Reset Data because that resets techs as well.
Kyou is good as well.

No, it means fights vs fiends, not Blitzball matches.
There's no real way to tell, but by the time you reach the airship you probably have done a ready, and by the time you've done capturing you definitely will have.
So I'm at the endgame done all the catching and everything with wakka in the party. I know I've had him for more than 450 battles. Auroch reels not appearing after winning status reels??
Even after a new Tournament comes up with a new prize? You could Reset Data and then get a new tourney to come up.

It took a day for me to get used to it since I HATE the Blitzball mini game with a passion, but after 22 years, I finally started winning some games. Sat down this weekend and finally, for the first time in my life, managed to get all of Wakka’s overdrives and the sigil!

No, you can recruit players as soon as you leave Luca. Just talk to them using Square instead of Cross (or X instead of A on Xbox).

Have you played the first game? The storyline one? You can't sign players until you've left Luca and had the message at the save point on Mi'ihen High Road.

Why can’t i recruit brother?
I've no idea; if you have the airship and it's after the Highbridge scene, you should be able to. You might have to progress the story a little bit if you're at the Sin/Zanarkand sections of the game. There are some parts where you can't speak to him, so you probably need to get past those.

What happens if you lose or don't complete the contest that has Jupiter sigil one time? Do you seriously have to go all the way back to level 1 again? 😣
Well, it's a league prize so if you lock in the prize by playing one game, and it should always be pretty easy to win a league.
But yes, if you failed to win a league, you'd be best off resetting data until the Sigil was the league prize again. You wouldn't have to play all the leagues and tournaments again though, because you'd already have the Overdrives.
I need some clarification.. So I don't need to win like 250 game in order for the sigil to appear
No, you just have to have had 450 battles/fights in the game (versus enemies, with your party).

When you reset and had status reels show up, high risk was in second place. IVE CONSTANTLY BEEN RESETTING TRYING TO GET THAT! No matter how many times I reset, it doesn’t appear! Am I just unlucky, or have I been doing it wrong?
You're not unlucky...it's incredibly rare. Infuriatingly so, in fact.
It's extremely difficult to get concrete info on the chances of Blitzball prizes coming up; I think a site called Angelfire is the only one I've even seen with figures, and I couldn't tell you how accurate that is, but they seem reasonable based on my experience.
They're data has it as a 20% chance that the 2nd place prize is a technique, and then a 3/22 chance of that tech being Hi-Risk. I calculate that to be a 2.7% chance of Hi-Risk being the 2nd place prize.
If you ever want to Tidus learn Hi-Risk, I'd say reset data after you've got the Sigil until Hi-Risk is the 2and place prize, then come second and have Tidus learn that.
If it ever comes up as second place randomly again, I'd seriously consider signing Wakka for the tenth game and having him lean it purely because that is the only way he'll ever get it.
For any other character, it is quicker to just make sure that they have the tech slot open for Hi-Risk, have them be signed by a computer team, and just wait til they've learnt it and get released again.
I did a level 99 perfect Blitz team on PS3 once, and that's how I learnt the best majority of the more difficult techniques. I never got Tidus and Wakka to learn Anti-Drain, and it took ages for Hi-Risk to come up for either of them, even with the crazy grinding to level 99 in Blitzball.
@@DPhoenix237 this is my first time playing blitzball to lvl 99. My team is currently Shaami, Vilucha, Linna, Ropp, Kulukan, and Nimrook. Was gonna replace Shaami or Vilucha with Larbeight later on, and hire Mifurey as a co mid with Linna. Nimrook is having a hard time gaining exp atm so I was trying to get high risk for him mainly. I’ve been using Tidus every now and then, especially since I’ve never gotten Jecht Shot 2 for him until now lmao.
Right, well do what I did for Nimrook if you're aiming for Level 99, then...
As painful as it is, release him and get someone else to sign him, but make sure you Tech Find him the slots for Hi-Risk and Venom Pass 3 first.
He'll get signed, then after a few matches his level will automatically jump up to match his team's approximate level, and he'll eventually (usually quite quickly tbf) learn Hi-Risk and Venom Pass 3.
Then when he gets released you can re-sign him and can use Venom Pass 3 and Hi-Risk to power level him if you ever want to.

I did Wakka too because I'm a masochist, but I ended up releasing players quite often so that they'd powerlower-level when signed by someone else, or learn techs.
Most of the time on my level 99 team grinding was getting Tech Finds so that they all got the best skills. That took ages. I won some leagues with Tech Find as the top scorer prize and I had 7 or even all 8 players as the joint top scorers 🤣
So for me I got the first 2 Reels overdrives but the last one a tournament only popped up with 1st place Elixir and Top score Return Sphere. I did all the steps but ended up like this. Any advice?
You have to have had a certain number of battles too. Save, then reset data and see what the next tournament prize is. If it isn't Aurochs Reels but you already have Status Reels, you might need more battles.

for some reason when I do blitzball league, the prize is the Mercury sigil and not the Jupiter sigil. Do I have to do the quest for Mercury sigil? If I already did the league, will the Jupiter sigil be there for the quest that is meant for the Mercury sigil?
Nah, the name just depends on which version you're playing.
Whatever the name is, the Sigil from Blitzball is always Wakka's.
Lightning Dodging is Lulu.
Bikanel Cactuar game is Rikku.
Butterfly game is Kimahri's.
Capturing prize is Auron's.
Yuna's and Tidus' are still Moon and Sun respectively, in all versions.

What's your opinion of Naida? I had her on my front line with Brother and they worked well together when I did the tournament for attack reels.
Yeah, she's really good. I wouldn't put her up front; if you're going to put a defender up front I'd suggest Ropp, but she is a great defender or midfielder once she has a couple of tackling techs.
EDIT: The reason that I don't suggest her for this method, using the reset data, is because she's not immediately great, and you'll reset before she ever gets properly good.

My team is what I recommend in the video. I just stick with Jassu and Botta because if you put Ropp at MF and Brother at RF, noone gets past them anyway.
You could get Naida/Kyou/Zalitz or whoever at defender if you want, but there's very little need tbh. Up to you 👍

No, it's just battled in total. 250 for Status Reel I think, and 450 total for Aurochs Reels.

So if you're at end game... stat maxed and everything... and you havent played a game of Blitzball since the scripted Luca game... you can get all overdrives and the Sigil without having to stop and kill Dingo a couple hundred times between each overdrive? That counter is just 450 battles total in the entire game... not specifically in between each overdrive?

I thought that you always get the overdrive modes after winning a league/tournament, so I completed both and didn't get anything 😭 it was so boring. I don't even know how this stupid minigame works, but I won every match because I got the jecht shot (you can retake the boat from kilika to luca at any point in the game after getting the airship). Also I recruited players other than the original aurochs.
Update: I got wakka's weapon after around 60 matches I think. I'd take completing 200 leagues over doing the chocobo race for Tidus' weapon. Haven't managed that one yet.

Update: Now I’m at like 7 to 8 wins and 1 loss. For now I just chose to make it it’s own save file and if I need to start over I can either go back to my previous save file or keep this one if 1 loss isn’t too bad of damage

Hell, I usually forfeit 2 or 3 games just to finish the leagues quicker and still win!

Why did my Jecht shot disappear after i reset stats?
It resets Tidus' level to 2. Once you complete an action with him (eg. Complete a pass to a teammate) he'll reach level 3 and you can equip techs again.

I won the status reels but the aurochs reels didn't appear as a prize for my next tournament. Have I not fought enough battles yet? Or should I just reset and wait till they are listed as a prize?
Possibly not enough battles yet. Save it first, then reset data and see if it comes up as a prize.
If not, you need more battles. That should be what it is because it has a 100% chance of coming up AFAIK.
How did you recruit brother?
He's piloting the Airship, you just recruit him from there. There are certainly times during the story when you can't recruit him because you can't play Blitzball or whatever, so just progress the story a bit.
Just one question, how many hours you spend to get this sigil by this trick?... beside that, thank you anyway
Sort of depends; I can never resist playing the games properly for the most part, and I love learning techs and playing properly and stuff. That takes about 4 hours to get the Sigil.
If you're really brutal and bare bones with it, though, you can score for the lead, waste time behind the goalie, and then once you've got enough wins for the league (usually 6 to 8) forfeit the other games almost immediately, it can be done in as little as 2.5 hours.

24 hours for the whole game and Nemesis? That seems incredibly tight timewise.
I'm quick at FFX imho and it takes me 50-55 hours to do the whole game and capturing, and the monster Arena plus Dark Aeons/Penance.

@DPhoenix237 that's fair, I can see the appeal in blitz for sure, but the chocobo racing, cactuar village, butterfly catcher and lightning dodger are insufferable experiences 😂 incredible combat system, world building and story, but chocobo racing made me want to stick my head in a wood chipper the other night lol
@galenthomas7322 yeah 100%. I loathed Chocbo catcher for years and still think it's bad now. Lightning dodger is terrible and if Lulu wasn't the worst character I'd hate it even more. As it is I just ignore her, and usually Kimahri as well.
Tidus, Yuna, Rikku are my core ones....and Wakka if I can be arsed with 4 hours of Blitz on the playthrough 😁
@DPhoenix237 fair enough. I'm just about to finish my first full playthrough in years and wanted to fully upgrade all the celestial weapons and what not, but its a big ask, so I'll probably just do all of them except maybe Wakka and Lulu. We'll see though 😂
