  • E Mount Cine Lens | SLR MAGIC MICROPRIME CINE 35MM | REVIEW
    SLR Magic released a cinema-grade version of their e mount prime lens series called the MicroPrime Cine lenses, which have a new lens coating and lens group construction. This, the 35mm T1.3, has got to be my favorite of the bunch.
    UPDATE: a few corrections... the iris has 7 blades, and these lenses can’t fit on the Sony F5/55. Cheers!

    0:55 can you fix focus breathing in post by punching in on the footage? Assuming you don't mind loosing a bit of resolution
    Also do you stabilize your videos with anything or just go hand held?

    • @imnickfriend
      @imnickfriend  5 лет назад +2

      I wouldn’t recommend punching in to fix the breathing. The breathing effects the actual optics, so using the digital punch in will give a little too much difference from one shot to another.

    i have the 25mm and 75mm, i'd say it reacts great to flares, the softness works great with skintones under good lighting or outdoors. Totally not usable for ambient indoor lighting though.

    • @imnickfriend
      @imnickfriend  5 лет назад +1

      No, the coatings pick up too much of that blooming that happened from ambient light. Totally agree

      I’m not sure, actually. I didn’t really do proper testing on it. But I did get some shots where I walked into focus and that was the closest focus I could get (I think. Not 100% sure). I’d say it’s around a foot and a half, but I’m not sure.

    awesome video... I love the look of these lenses. Looking to get a few for my Sony a6400. I have a question... what's the difference between their e mount cine and micro prime cine for e mount?? Why f2.8 as opposed to t2.8? Are both versions "equivalent" focal lengths for a6xxx series cameras? Thanks for the great work and the information. Peace....

    • @imnickfriend
      @imnickfriend  3 года назад +2

      So, T stops and f-stops are measured in different ways. An f-stop is measured by the amount of light that can be let in to a lens, and a T stop is the amount of light that can be let out of the lens. T stops are much more universal measurements, which is why you see them on cinema lenses, So when you switch from a T2.8 Canon to a T2.8 SLR magic then they’re both going to have the same amount of light value coming out of the back of the lens. The same cannot be said with two f/2.8 lenses. Additionally the Cine version of these lenses have a little bit more of a high-quality coating to some of the lens elements, giving it a slightly cleaner look. But you still get that quintessential SLR magic look to your videos.

    Does 12mm and 25mm have the same sensor size coverage? I bought to of those lens and using on my MFT sensor and the 25mm looks like 50mm and it's perfect but the 12mm looks way wider than 14mm. Is it just the way it feels or is it actuary wider? If anybody can answer, please comment on this.

    • @imnickfriend
      @imnickfriend  3 года назад +1

      With MFT, you're basically getting a 2x crop on your lenses. the SLRMagic lenses are labeled with their full-frame equivalencies, so if you have a 25, it should look like a 50 and if you have a 12, it should look like a 24. Lens manufacturer focal length's vary from company to company, but the differences won't be THAT much.

    could you please explain why to you it made sense, buying a full manual e-mount lens when you could just as easily have adapted almost any other lens to that? i mean ef-mount lenses wouldn't make any difference (or would they) except you could also use them on much more camera systems. i think that is one of the most genius things about e-mount: the flange distance allows to adapt almost anything...

      I'd say that ONE of the reasons to get SOME cine lenses is to have no breathing. However, the characteristics can provide a unique feel that may be appropriate for the type of shot the shooter is shooting for... it's all a matter of taste, style, and need.
