Practicality : being able to find and grip the door handle to the rear doors and subsequently contort one’s body to sit in the back seat. The ZDX failed in these regards when I went to the Philly Auto Show one year. And I was younger then without the arthritic knee and other concerns. For reference I was driving an ‘04 Mazda6 5-door and my better half an ‘06 Accord LX.
My mom wanted to buy one and we went and test drove it! The outside was unique but the inside was classic Honda. And the spacing wasn’t bad. Ultimately she didn’t get one, but she mentions how she should’ve gotten one when she had the chance each time she sees one
I swear the majority of these were sold in my state. I see a lot of em. Also almost got run over by a ZDX once in a Walmart parking lot I do wonder why more brands never experimented in lifting up their cars. Subaru seems to have great success with it. Lifting up a sedan like Volvo did that one time or the current Crown...I dont think thats a recipe for success. I like SUVs but Im interested in a lifted hatchback or wagon if it was good.
It was just ugly. It was an odd shape and probably would have sold more if it was shaped like a real wagon. Like a Subaru Outback. The back of the Honda was hideous. In 20 years people will salivate to have a clean one with low mileage, though. Someone should buy one now and hold onto it. It will be a hit on Bring a Trailer in about 2040.
I agree. It's ugly. I've seen quite a few on the roads (I actually just saw one today) and it does not look stylish at all. It looks like a crossover *pun intended* between a wagon and an SUV, and did not come out well.
Yeah, that's always been Honda though. They make quirky designs, and honestly after some time become cult classics. Tbh, this may have been a pet project for Honda Execs.
I don’t think it looks bad at all personally and I’m not even into crossovers but I think Honda did it well it looks like a full-size accord in the front and CRV in the back and it blends in very well but I think it’s a very niche car and that’s what led to its demise.
Crosstour ain't bad at all. I'd lower it, put on some nice Acura OEM wheels off a TLX or something, tint that bad boy and put some music in it. It already has all wheel drive, it's just begging for a turbo kit.
Lol I wouldn’t buy it even today. I am a little biased. I’m a traditional sedan buyer but I am looking for more practicality with my second vehicle next year. But It’s like the Toyota Avalon and the Toyota Crown. If I wanted a raised sedan or something accord like but taller, I simply would just buy a crossover. Which I don’t want so the cross-tour, for me, would be a no. And if I wanted more space and practicality (which for my business I need next year), I’m looking for either a 3 row SUV or a Pickup. And I wouldn’t replace my sedan for it. However, unlike the crown. I don’t find it ugly. Idk why people think the Crosstour is ugly. I think it looked good. A little boring, yes. But with a good evolution, Honda would’ve gotten it right eventually.
Well yes, but I think what separated this from SUV's was its handling and center of gravity. It definitely Niche, but I think they didn't slot it right. The CR-V was too close in price for people to justify buying.
I was thinking just the other day that the Crosstour would sale today as we love crossovers, and CUVs. I sold Hondas for a brief period back in 2010 and was surprised at the functionality and enjoyability of driving the Crosstour and even kinda liked its look. Another Honda of the time, the CRZ was a waste of potential, good looks but a hybrid that wasnt even great at being a hybrid and significantly under powered.
The Honda Crosstour could've been cool in a Rover 800 fastback or BMW 5 series GT sorta way. Instead, Honda tried to make it into a high riding Subaru Outback, Audi All Road sorta thing and that doesn't work with the fastback style roofline. They also should've kept the Accord style front clip. I've seen some Crosstours lowered with big wheels and they look really good. I considered buying one but got a good deal on a gen 1 Toyota Venza.
Idk I’ve always liked the Crosstour, it was fun and quirky looking. It was cool of Honda to experiment. But I get the styling is controversial so it makes sense why it ultimately flopped. I prefer the refresh over the original by far, looks more modern and I think that design aged better. I think if they brought it back (with flawless styling) it would be a hit now.
i have a 2015 EX AWD and the area infront of and above the rear wheels is so damn ugly and you cant see jack out of the rear window. but other than that its solid and is the most modern car ive ever own.
I think if it was shaped more like a "wagon" (Subaru Outback), it wouldn't have been so controversial. These lifted 4-door "coupe" shaped cars do not look good at all.
Yeah, and we see how that's going. If they want to sell those cars, they have to price them below SUVs but above sedans. When its too close in price, its a bad value proposition.
If they based it on a Pilot it would’ve done better. I think it was too car like for the masses. I remember my friend got to drive one her boss’s Crosstour pretty regularly. She liked it but said it looked igg (short for ignant. her words😅)
It is very ignorant. Idk, I think the beauty of this car is that it didn't handle like an SUV. Putting it on the Pilot chassis may have ruined its handling.
I have ALWAYS loved this and the ZDX's styling. I do not care, sue me, I think they're gorgeous. The practicality and reliability are bonuses

That and the roofline was super tight for not so tall owners.

Why it did not sell well, top 3 reasons:
#1 It was way overpriced
#2 It was way overpriced
#3 It was way overpriced
Yeah, I think if it was slotted/priced right between the CR-V and Accord, it would have done better.
Yeah didn’t it start at like $35k or something like that? Definitely pricey

Idk...I kinda want one... the pre face lift looks better to me than the refresh.
@@BrkDownMedia I mean I am still obsessed with with the first Civic Wagovan. That beautiful little wedge.

Yeah, I like it pre-facelift tbh. This is kind of the same thing with Clubman for Mini.
I seen one of these with off road wheels looks insane 😲
I've seen a few of those online and they do look great

2.0T and LED Lights is really all that was needed.
@BrkDownMedia a 2.0T would be nice too ngl. Motivates my Accord rather nicely.

I guess today it would be exactly what toyota is trying to do with the Crown

That final fantasy plug 👌
You see it!

I blame this thing for all the bloated sedans out.
Ah yes,the Honda Aztek
Hmmm... I need to go back and revisit that too.
Ditto for the Prelude
I did a video about the new one, but I need to list out all of Honda's "Ahead of schedule" times
I always those where ugly just like the outback the only good looking wagons is the srt8 magnum, CTS, cls shooting brake and the rs6.
It was not one thing or the other...neither fish nor fowl, as we say in Britain.
Precisely!
Those are not SUVs. Those are jeeps! A jeeps! SUV sound ridiculous😂 stop it. It's time to stop
bigass glasses
