She didn't want to be alone, she didn't want her dog poisoned by this stranger who was harassing her, but she also didn't want to call the cops on a black man, so she kept screaming at him to leave. She finally decided to call the cops, and was very blunt about what she'd have to tell them, since she was aware of racial disparities in policing. Christian Cooper is the problem here, and the news ignores all of the other facts surrounding this case. All people see is the few minutes of footage Christian filmed at the end of the encounter, and people thinking she was choking her dog. How do you call the police while trying to keep a hyperactive dog away from a man with treats who you think may steal or poison your dog? I'm so sick of you fools picking on that woman, when you would have done basically the same thing. Christian Cooper is a predator who needs to pay for his crimes.
What a lovely man. I appreciate that he speaks so openly about the racist attack by Amy Cooper but does not let that incident define him. His Nat Geo special is a treat! I loved following him in the jungle, following birds with fellow bird geeks! Eager to read his book. May he prosper. Thanks for this thoughtful interview.
Sorry for your problems on your bird expeditions, Christian (NY still a racially touchy place, probably always will be). Glad your Spock stoicism got you through!
Rodney Stotts, one of the few Black master falconers, has an interesting story of how birds turned his life around. He has a book out called Bird Brother.
I am glad that Christian Cooper is doing well and he is following his bliss. He seems like a very nice guy. I still think about Amy Cooper, who seemed so deranged that day in Central Park, and I hope she is doing well also. NYC was a difficult place to live during the pandemic, and I agree that she did act badly, but I question whether she is the uber racist that her 15 minutes of fame depicted. I remember Christian Cooper declined to bring charges against her, and at the time I was so impressed at the mercy of that. We need mercy and forgiveness in this world.
Bravo to all if the beautiful birds & to Christian for educating people about different species & how important orotecting wildlife is. I'd forgotten about that nutty, NASTY , entitled lady in Central Park. I was raised in the city & know her "tribe" there are so/too many like her in NYC I'm goad that Christian's video went viral. She should have been sued for verbal harassment & penalized for wasting the police's time. Anither real crine could have been occurig & those cops were tied up in her lies, in her rouse. Christian's knowledge seems vast, but i disagree on one point & must say that awful sound of Riahna is nowhere in the league of a beautiful Blue Jay's song.. Otherwise, great update on a lovely guy. 1:03
What a disgusting lady; she needs to rethink her prejudice and get called out on it by the police and for wasting their time! I'm glad this all came out well for Christian Cooper. (from Sandi)
The woman had a leash, so obviously brought the dog on it to that area where no one was, then let him run free for a little exercise. Cooper walks up and instead of accessing the situation and moving on, has to say something. She couldn’t just say sorry and re-leash the dog. And then it escalated into stupidity on both their parts. People today just can’t be considerate.
When I first saw this I thought that Christian was very aggressive - why didn't he just ask her to please put her dog on a leash instead of walking up and recording her immediately and using a harsh tone of voice in asking her to put it on a lease? If I had been that young woman in the park where they were all alone, I might have been afraid too.
@@adelasussman3838 - If you live in the city, I can't see why you have a dog in the first place. It's stuck in an apartment, always on a leash, and can't run around. People on this thread are saying she abused the dog. Quite to the contrary, I think she is a better owner than most. Sure, she broke the leash law, but to benefit the dog, and in a place where it was no threat to anyone. However, in my opinion, anyone who keeps a dog in the city, without a yard to run around in, is abusing that animal.
@@adelasussman3838If you were paying attention, then you would know that he did request that she put her dog on the leash. Her aggressive behavior is what prompted him to take out the phone and record. This man was dressed well, clean and is naturally soft spoken. There was nothing threatening about him. Her actions were that of an entitled child and lashed out in the most evil of ways....race. That you don't see that says far more about you than him.

How many people can afford going to see Star Wars 41 times in a theater ? Unless he sat and didn't leave an entire day, and paid once, and watch the other 5 to 8 times a day for free ?
Good for this guy. He’s accomplished a lot. I can understand how being black while birding could lead to trouble. Black males can present threats in ways that are unfair, insulting, rude, and cruel. That said, it’s also understandable. To deny that is disingenuous. I do, however, share a fear of Karens as well, whom I’ve learned, are not always mentally ill. Nobody is left unscarred when targeted by them.
This simp 😢should have pressed charges on her to the fullest! She knew what she was doing -setting him up to be shot by police !🚨 He gave her more grace than what she intended for him! After the cops shot him, she would have went straight home and had the best sleep of her life ! 😢 Modern day😮 Carolyn Bryant 😩🥺
Millions of much more extraordinary birders. With many more stories, then retelling this one again. How about a 90Year old man that has helped bird recovering and education. For over 60 years , now that’s extraordinary.
It was barely dawn. He advanced on her to admonish her on her loose leashed dog. Then he gave her dog something he claimed were dog treats. At that, she called the NYPD. Yet she got pasted as a racist for being scared of this guy. Hope that CBS News Sunday Morning invites her as a guest. Ideally, both Coopers should have been invited.
No, she shouldn't have been invited. Instead of obeying the park's rule to leash her dog, Amy Cooper chose to play both the "race" card and the "victim" card, both of which backfired on her, as they should. She weaponized her tears against an innocent Black man, endangering his life-and her dog's life-in the process, which has happened so many times to other innocent Black men, the late Emmett Till, the Black boy who was murdered by White men just for whistling at a White woman, being a prime example. Christian Cooper was invited on the show because he didn't let someone else's ignorance define him nor stop him and he's successful because of it; Amy Cooper is STILL playing the so-called "victim," not taking any real responsibility for her own actions. Amy Cooper's life sucks because of HER choices, not his.
Take 2: I totally disagree. Instead of just following the rule and putting her dog on a leash, Amy Cooper overreacted & chose to weaponize her tears, endangering Christian Cooper's life in the process. Instead of learning from her mistakes and getting her own life together, Amy Cooper insists on playing the "victim" when she's not. I've watched "CBS Sunday Morning" for years and the main criteria for being a guest is being and doing something positive. Christian Cooper has a book,a TV show and has turned his life around; Amy Cooper has neither. He's earned & deserves all of his success; Amy Cooper is the opposite & unless she gets over herself, she always will be.
They should have had Bari Weiss on to discuss her podcast interview with Amy Cooper. Amy did nothing wrong. Christian Cooper was not the innocent he was portrayed as, he has a history of questionable encounters with dog walkers in the park.
Strange that none of those "questionable encounters" lead to arrests, charges nor being banned from the park. Amy Cooper chose to break the park's rules and completely overreacted when she got caught. Kudos to Christian Cooper for not only handling it as well as he did, but for thriving despite it. 🕊️
@@dolleyes5062 I am a livelong New Yorker who understands the reality of living in the city. Amy had every reason to be fearful. If this guy is such a wonderful genius, he would have understood that the woman with the dog, in the park, has mental issues. He continued to film her, while watching her drag her dog around by the neck. She did that to exaggerate your point about, putting the dog on the leash. He saw an opportunity to film a Karen, who escalated things immediately. Once she made it a racial thing, he knew he had a viral video. So, what was his plan? Show a video of a woman in the park with her dog off leash, to the police? Seriously? What would they have done? I call BS on this guy. Yes the woman was wrong on many levels. @@moosenut1337 He was neither following nor harassing her. He was at a respectful distance & asked her very politely to leash her dog, which is the law and is posted throughout that section of the park. She is the one who LIED to the police in a blatantly racist way.
I love that he has done nothing but thrive after suffering such a heinous display of ignorance. I am not necessarily a "birder" but I'll check out his show!
He didn't go to war..it was just a goofy girl..

Because of her actions.
@@SimbaRobyn Christian Cooper is a predator who has been harassing and threatening women in Central Park for about a decade or more.
He always does this to women who are alone.
He isolated her, tried to lure her dog away from her with treats, told her that he'd take her dog from her, and then do whatever he wanted to her, because she wasn't following the leash rule in the park.
What an extraordinary man.
Such a cool guy. I'd love to spend time with him checking out birds where I live. Thanks for the tip on how to use the binoculars.
Christian,, you are amazing!! I love watching 🐦, and I love you❤❤
I really like this man.
Boy, that was refreshing! 😊
Live Long and Prosper. Infinite Diversity Infinite Combinations
That was no lady
Sorry for your problems on your bird expeditions, Christian (NY still a racially touchy place, probably always will be). Glad your Spock stoicism got you through!
You can text that again. I grew up in Alphabet city and of the yellow variation.
Rodney Stotts, one of the few Black master falconers, has an interesting story of how birds turned his life around. He has a book out called Bird Brother.
Good people come in a rainbow 🌈 of colors. Guess what ? They watch birds, too . Thank you for standing up, Mr. Cooper .
Yay! Talk about turning an ugly situation into something good. Thank you, Mr. Cooper!
He is so lovely!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Extraordinary birder…extraordinary person!
A great guy.
He's a great guy!
Mr. Cooper I am glad this terrible incident did not diminish your interest in bird watching. I wish you well.
Thank you Christian!!
@@Iris-hx6ox Yes, I know that he asked her very aggressively to put the dog on a leash while he was walking toward her recording her. Sorry for the misunderstanding -I edited my post. I think we saw this video in different ways. His race didn't matter to me.
The BlueJay is my favorite bird. Mean.
Yeah, they can be jerks. But they do warn everybody else that a stranger is around.
Excellent segment! Happy to see Mr. Cooper doing well. Thank goodness for technology. If it weren’t for him recording the incident, we all know what would have happened to Mr. Cooper. I haven’t seen the video until now. What a disgusting behavior. I hope karma bites her a$$.
Scary thing he experienced and thank goodness he filmed it and shared it with the world.Hold up the mirror to all
This was done to promote racism and divide us..
How many people can afford going to see Star Wars 41 times in a theater ? Unless he sat and didn't leave an entire day, and paid once, and watch the other 5 to 8 times a day for free ?
Horrible to both this man and to her own dog.
Ok and he’s handsome and interesting too!te he.

Whatever happened to the dramatic racist Karen? 🤔
Really cool
Bravo!
She is awesome!
She is accusing him of something he hasn’t done. She’s also abusing her dog, racial abuse and animal abuse
I'm glad his life is getting better.
This guy should watch “The Fall of Minneapolis”
I have the app Merlin it is awesome
I'll bet he's a Nerdfighter! DFTBA!
Love star wars the best ever and so are you
I remember that video. While she’s calling the police and lying about Christian Cooper she’s choking her own dog instead of putting him on a leash.
Thats the problem these days, people dont know how to mind their own business, and leave other people alone
Millions of much more extraordinary birders. With many more stories, then retelling this one again. How about a 90Year old man that has helped bird recovering and education. For over 60 years , now that’s extraordinary.
Whataboutism.
Clickbait title. You think it's about a bird watcher, and it's really about a black, gay man and a Karen.
Family tree is a straight stick huh?
OR it's about an individual who had an awful experience, overcame it, and now has an amazing opportunity to pursue one of his passions.
Nothing is as innocent as it seems.
I don't have a TV but what a great program to have
Mr Cooper travel the world & look for birds 🦜🕊️🦩
he's such a fraud
Give me a break. What I thought was a bird watching video transformed into racial turmoil.
Too bad for you.
Take 2:
I totally disagree.
I totally agree with you.
Here we go again…
Here are some uncomfortable truths from the NYC police department stats for 2023. 95.8 percent of robbery suspects arrested in 2022 New York City were non-white (62.5 percent black).
90.7 percent of rape suspects arrested in 2022 New York City were non-white (46.2 percent black).
97.8 percent of shooting suspects arrested in 2022 New York City were non-white (65.6 percent black).
Bear in mind NYC in 2020 was 30.9% White (non-Hispanic), 28.7% Hispanic or Latino, 20.2% Black or African American (non-Hispanic), 15.6% Asian, and 0.2% Native American (non-Hispanic). A total of 3.4% of the non-Hispanic population identified with more than one race. This means blacks are wildly over represented in crime stats by their actions. Amy should have been frightened when approached by any man while she was alone in Central Park, Here is a link to the RUclips interview with Amy Cooper. If you listen to this podcast and still see Amy as a villain and that Christian has no culpability in this drama you are dishonest and warrant no further attention form me. Cheers.
Even if you can overlook Mr. Cooper's experience, did you not see what she was doing to her dog? She was choking her dog. Wouldn't have happened if she had the dog on the leash. Which is safest for the dog, too.
@@lucindafrederick1161 It's called fear. She was trying to protect her dog and yes, she would've done the same, even if on a leash.
@@mistymarshall5438 There wouldn't have been an issue, in the first place, if she had followed the rules and had her dog on a leash. As I stated, it's safest for the dog. Maybe Mr. Cooper doesn't like dogs, or is afraid of them. Follow the rules - problem averted.
Who cares if you’re black and gay??? I thought this report was going to be about birds???
It’s titled “The Extraordinary Birder” and is about that. Not sure what you were expecting.

Amy had reason to feel threatened, especially during the time of 2020
If this guy is such a wonderful genius, he would have understood that the woman with the dog, in the park, has mental issues.
However, in the long run , he helped no one but himself. He's a bird watcher...Who Cares?!
Wow. Way to miss so many contextual points.
This was more about a black mans issue...
Wouldn't it be a lovely American story if Amy and Christian Cooper became a union as he straighten up leading an ugly episode to beauty through fate and destiny. Plus she wouldn't have to change her maiden name. No hyphen either.
