Friends are informal connections while you can have both formal and informal connections in your network. Making new friends is a part of building your network. A strong network consists of friends, colleagues in the same department, colleagues from other departments, colleagues from your previous organizations, teachers, peers, seniors, bosses, managers, team leads, members of different societies and clubs, and many more. Now reading so far may have triggered a thought process in your mind and you can map your connections, reconnect to the older ones, approach the new ones. The farthest the network is the more novelty he can contribute. Friends are the closest of these and most of the time they have access to the same information as you have.
