go with a goal take the first step don't be negative connect and move give first and receive later connect others Mutual benefits and curiosity balance the conversation Keep moving enjoy the process
- give give give - presence when person talking - listen more than you talk - think long vs short term - don’t not over commit - be honest - take action immediately - only going to thing that excite you
first lesson : deal with your shyness it's either you take control or it takes control of your life surrendering to shyness means giving up on all the good opportunities and possibilities in your life ,and most importantly your mind is blocked and not able to produce productive and interesting ideas
Loved this so much I forced my entire team to watch during a lunch and learn. they liked ti so much they insisted I leave you a comment. Get video keep it up!
Great video. My question is, how do you make new conversations or new connections with people while you're walking around the room and so many of them are in little groups that don't seem open to new people coming in? It's hard to break into these groups without feeling like you're intruding on a private conversation.
This is absolutely true. So this makes networking almost impossible. You can not even physically approach people and not speak about interrupting their conversation.
You can stay close to the group abt 2m and let them know ur interest. Often someone will look at you or smile , use that opportunity to introduce urself. You can also use phrases like, I was listening to the conversation, interesting that you mentioned.....
Good advice! Being able to engage with people in networking group can massively increase the exposure to your business, while also being able to let you use your skills, talents and connections to help others in the group as well. Also, the magic is in the follow-up and work done after the event, the meeting is just the starting point, not the destination.
This was a great video - I love how you addressed the mindset blocks around networking, and how you can overcome them by being determined to have fun! Awesome tips!
You’ve earned my follow as a new subscriber.. thank you for your time and energy, I’m going to a massive networking event downtown Tampa at the Hilton Hotel and I’m fairly new at this whole networking thing. I’m not really an introvert so I got most skills you mentioned under control.. but I also gained some more skills through the tips you presented. I want to start my own RUclips channel soon geared towards physical & mental health.. I’m not a formal professional in either subject but I’ve earned enough life experience points to be a professional in my own right. I look forward to more videos like this .. Sincerely, ArayaHope
At the risk of being perceived as being negative, we must realistically consider that in authentic dialogue people do bond over actual concerns of injustice (poverty, domestic violence, workplace bullying, etc. as these and other serious issues can certainly arise depending upon the professionals interacting with), which may sound negative to some, but are absolutely not the same thing.
So much good info. Thank you so much for helping an introverted new business owner to network effectively. When you have a plan like this it makes it less scary and more fun. I am really good at a lot of these but was always too shy to put them into play. Going to use this at my first event this week! Thank you again.
Thank you so much! Tomorrow I'm going to a networking event for the second time and now I prepare myself for it so hopefully I won't be as shy as I was at the first time. This video is a massive help!! That part when you describe what you were like before is totally me. Thanks again! Wish you the best!
@CHD hi! thank you for asking :) well I still had some low points when i didn't know what to do or say and I felt anxious. one participant even told me that it's okay, relax.. :D so I can imagine how nervous I looked sometimes. so the conclusion is it takes much more to overcome the anxiety than just one or two occasions so I continue my "journey" :)
Thank you for your amazing tips! You described me in the beginning and I knew this is the right way to start improving my networking skills! I am a naturally curious person that enjoys learning so I know that with more practice, it will be more fun for me to connect with others. It just means a bigger world! Thanks again!
Hi Stephan. My name is Peter Beckenham and I just wanted to congratulate you on this awesome video about how best to improve your networking skills. One of the very best I have had the privilege to watch. Many thanks
I really like the advice on "giving first receiving later". It's better to offer value to people so they want you around. Also it doesnt make you feel like a leech that's just taking things.
I really enjoyed this video, and think that these steps really apply to life in general! Thanks for posting! Oh, and i did have one thought to add... what about presence? Being present with that person whomever you're talking to, and no matter how short the conversation... from the moment you *take the first step*, to the moment you actively decide to *break away* or *connect them with someone else*. What are your thoughts? Thanks again!
totally agree with you. presence...to be fully there...it can be difficult at a networking event...because there's so much going on...but yes being in the moment, fully listening and responding in the moment..yes absolutely crucial! thanks for adding that!
Great advice about not sticking with the conversation you're comfortable with at an event - get out of your comfort zone and do what it says on the tin - network. Plus, the giving mindset is absolutely essential to becoming a networking Yoda!
Also if you can solve a problem for the other person they will remember you more. Then next time you need something they are much more likely to help if they have time.

these are for events where people are for networking...so I feel like your question is for another scenario, isn't it? But to your question...I'd definitely try to add value to their life as a conversation starter and give them a glimpse of what they could gain by knowing you asap...
thanks for asking. it's about being curious how you could help them in some way..if you come with a mindset of "how can I be useful to them?" rather than "What can I get out of them?" it can lead you to find out more about they're after...and stop you from just asking self serving questions...you'd build trust in the process and you find out how you could help them in some small or big way..it could be connecting them with someone..etc..

You join the group as a listener. If people pause and react, then say “What you’re saying is very interesting, I hope you don’t mind me barging in.”
