I'm sorry about your loss, but with the consolation that this album gives you so many good memories of your father. I hope it helps you a little to see here that so many other people love this album too. Best wishes

Can remember walking around Hackney Downs in the middle of the night with the dog listening to this brilliant album on a tape machine. Saw them at Brixton Academy in the 80s.
The sky was Bible black in Lyon When I met the Magdalene She was paralyzed in a streetlight She refused to give her name And a ring of violet bruises They were pinned upon her arm. Two hundred francs for sanctuary and she led me by the hand To a room of dancing shadows where all the heartache disappears And from glowing tongues of candles I heard her whisper in my ear "'J'entend ton coeur" I can hear your heart
I will never forget my first time listening this album that introduced me into marillion´s world, i just couldn´t believe my ears...I loved it then and will always do.
Got this when it was released. Saw it toured in Bristol. So many memories - crying now listening. Happy sad times - sad happy times. Bloody glad I survived them x
simply its to good ! does we love it when we hear it just get the same feeling , its just good rock! here in my contry venezuela i think me an my budies where the only ones who here this in our chilhood
Thanks for uploading this. I've not heard it in about 15 years. Made it as far as Bitter Suite before there were tears rolling down my cheeks. Don't recall it making me this emotional when I was a kid, must be something to do with being a dad now.

+shellovski Actually FUGAZI is an acronym that stands for Fucked-Up Got Ambushed Zipped In. And as you say, it was used from american soldiers in Vietnam to indicate a plight
I learned pieces of piano music as a teenager. Lavender and I wish I knew how it felt to be free (the 1st 6 bars). People thought I was this amazing piano player and always asked me to play. I'd start with Lavender and have a wee sing song. I'd then play I wish I knew how it felt to be free and when I got the end of what I'd learned I'd always say" Right, that's enough. If you want anymore you have to pay me" No one ever twigged LOL
i remember working with a latino neamed jimmy who turned me on to marillion. influenced by genesis and floyd i heard fuagazi kaylee all theri albums with fish the singer. he would come out in jester pants or a kilt fun times back then i loved this band trippy humane things in life and fun
Nathan Clauss I was watching an old video yesterday ( a concert from 1984 ) and I saw/heard/felt for the first time the conncection with Peter Gabriel ( the young Peter Gabriel as leadsinger/songwritter/musician of Genesis )! The make up, the long poetic lyrics, the theaterical performances, even the voice ( he has a voice that sounds like Peter Gabriel when he was young and Phil Collins )! And I realize something else! When I was 12 I wasn't able to understand and be able to really enjoy the beauty of the lyrics, I'm older now but my english is much better and I read the lyrics while listening to the songs and I love Marillion and Fish more than ever! Fish is a poet!
Exactly what I've thought as well. There is particularly one small moment where he sounds exactly like Phil Collins and if you didn't know better, you'd definitely think it's Phil Collins.
@superuniformes As a Scot who played this to death in my youth, I think it's cool to think of Marillion being played and enjoyed as far away as South America. I'm sure Fish would get a kick out of that too! :)

Hands up..... who had a misplaced childhood....totally awesome album.
A true masterpiece. They don't make music like this anymore. This album is a classic.
I agree
Bjørn Olav Henjum
Which is great I like this to be a unique thing because it nails it so perfectly

So many good memories of my dad blasting this album in the car. Can't believe you've gone so soon dad.
I'm sorry about your loss, but with the consolation that this album gives you so many good memories of your father. I hope it helps you a little to see here that so many other people love this album too.

+Warren Kingston They're still around and very successful. They still make good records as well, even if Fish isn't in the band anymore
Ditto we were probably at the same gig
to have seen these lads, and Joy Division both play live would be my go-back in life!! :)

Gnom65 Can't agree with u more. But Tracey Chapman comes 2nd best
How these songs transition from angsty to epic is just wonderful.
THE POETIC LYRICS OF MARILLION CAN NEVER BE MATCHED!!! IT'S LIKE THE JABBERWOCKY, OR PLEASUREDOME OF THE MODERN DAY!!

Fish sounds like a straight up cross between Peter Gabriel and Roger Waters. Pretty awesome if you ask me.
Nathan Clauss He sounds like Phil Collins in some songs as well.

gracias!!!!

Mmmmmm.... :D
warm wet circles....
sometimes he is more Gabriel than Gabriel himself
Forget Gabriel, this is uncannily close to David Bowie's Glass Spider which came two years later in my opinion. Bowie ripped em off!
fugazi or anything by pink floyd dude
